The pic as shown is the new Akaprovic system currently in transit. The system I will be replacing is the Cargraphic headers & Cats. The problem sits in several areas.
1. Quality. Welding quality (MIG) is very poor.
2. Angle between flange to Turbo vs pipe to muffler was wrong. I cut the cat in two pieces then TIG welded the cat back together at the correct angle (right hand cat only)
3. Sensor @ cat discharge set at wrong angle. Fouling against motor plate
4. Clearance between flange (Cats) to Turbo & cat not appropriate. Needed to reduce stud lengths.
I do ALL my own install work with support/guidance of a local Porsche tech. I could afford to have someone do it for me, but I get more pleasure & satisfaction doing it myself (with tech support). The quality of the Akrapovic system looks to be far superior.
Most of the performance gain comes with changing the cats (less back pressure) The OEM cats are either 600 or 400 cell (honestly I forget). See the difference in the pics below.
And for the record. …In my working life I started as an apprentice Fitter & Turner. After gaining my trade qualification I went back to school (night school) to get an Engineering Degree and in more recent times an MBA. If I was smarter I would have stayed at school longer and taken the easier path, but that’s life. Remember money has absolutely nothing to do with happiness. Happiness (at least for me) is family, health & friends….& cars.
