Hi all, Got some fibreglass eyelids for my 34 and have had insane amounts of difficulty painting them; 1.Sanded them down, wiped clean with wax & grease remover, applied grey acrylic primer which sticks perfect. 2.Apply black acrylic gloss spraypaint and as soon as the paint hits the surface it appears to 'bubble' and seperate 3.When looking at the surface dried the whole surface has an orange peel look and some parts have small bubbles I have now tried doing this probably 10x or more and have had no luck, have tried wiping with metho rather than wax and grease remover, have tried in different temperatures, have tried placing the can in hot water to warm paint, have heated up the back of the eyelids with a hairdryer to warm the surface before hand etc.. I have also taken the surface right back to fibreglass with thinners and tried all over but no luck.. I cannot workout what the variable is that allows the primer to stick fine and not the paint (all the products are acrylic).. Everything I've researched indicates a contaminate but I've had no luck. Also tried 3 different brands of paint, even tried sanding the black bubbly paint back in hopes of hitting it with clear to bring back a smooth gloss but then the clear does the same thing!! Please please any advise is appreciated I'm going mad for something I thought would be straight forward. cheers, Steve

Yeh that is uncanny.. I once got a yellow sticker for having a huge 'f*ck the police' sticker across the back of my window whilst running from a high speed pursuit with loud rap music playing and drifting whilst flipping the po po off with 1 hand out the window.. *note sarcasm* No but seriously.. good luck.. and uhhh keep cop signals to a minimum ie: blue lights & flamethrowers =)

Cant Get My Front Sway Bar Off My R34 Gtt?
itsme replied to Harey's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
If you have spare nuts (pun intended) available you could try doing what i did; Use a chisel or another hardened tool that is similar and position it with a hammer at an almost horizontal angle and tap it until you have created a groove in the bolt head then ensure your chisel is nicely slotted in the groove and continue to tap in an anticlockwise direction until it comes undone. I have a 34 and had the exact same problem and this worked for me, alternatively you could try the above ie; hammer a small socket onto the rounded nut then try and undo it. cheers, Steve -
Hey bud, I have a 34 in mirrabooka not exactly a mechanic but I've got a decent sized tool set and some wd40 as suggested might be able to give you a hand bud. PM me an i'll see how I go. cheers, Steve

LOL @ being so annoyed you created a detailed thread on it.. I will definitely be keeping an eye out now for dented V35's and checking this thread.. hilarious.. Maybe its a 'cool' in joke as suggested, seems as though alot/most of the ss utes (cbf working out which model, cbf thinking about holdens) have a dent on their ute tray flap thing.. Maybe its some sort of SS ute/v35 conspiracy...

Lolz John.. you don't have a Skyline and therefor you are under-qualified for posting on here.. Although you are a top bloke so I suppose we could let it go.. Guys this has come up heaps of times before and you can sand them, rub them, lick them <<(wtf) and polish them.. but if you want it to last I recommend using this stuff called Glassylite (or equivalent if there is one), comes in a little pack and you get all sorts of sh*t in there.. I got it for about $40 I think wish does both lights (got mine from Auto one in Malaga coz they are pretty good). Just like Johns method above they provide the sandpaper which is the first step (you can actually see the water turning a yellowish color due to the buildup on the plastic). The only advantage to the pack is they give you some stuff called 'nano-sealant' which must be expensive coz they give you sweet f-all of it. I must say though this stuff is insane, it not only give your lights that final 'glassy' clear look but apparently it has a UV protection agent in it which means your headlights are not only looking good but they are protected from looking like piss again for a while, otherwise you may have to do the above every few months and you may 'sand' a hole through your headlights over time.. Good luck all -Steve

R34 Gt-t Manual Vs Auto With Manual Converison
itsme replied to 2dabass's topic in Western Australia
Hrrm.. Maybe you just got a 34 in bad condition or something wrong with it? Mines an auto converted to manual and its perfectly fine.. havent done heaps to it, pod, zorst from the turbo back, lightened flywheel an hd clutch.. Nothing special and its got a good boot to it running stock boost. Have you had it serviced? does it do anything odd? ie: idle funny, backfire etc?? Hope you work out what it is mate, maybe its been boosted and not tuned so afr are rooted? Good luck buddy hope you work out what it is. Also - be warned that if you need to upgrade the clutch (like i just have) the japs usually convert with an r33 gearbox so you would need a different clutch to a 34 clutch (one is pulltype and the other is push type). Could cause you some drama if you get the wrong one first because I've been told its not easy to determine until you drop the gearbox out. -Steve -
I had this exact problem mate, changed over to Splitfires like Andy advised and have never had a problem since. Scared the hell out of me when mine did it, just sounded like a Wrx and ran like sh*t. Good luck mate, you can change them over yourself not too hard just a little fiddly because you have to remove a thousand things to get to the friggin coilpacks - if you need new sparkplugs it would probably be a good time to do it all at once.

Meh, I read the same article and got myself a 3A pod.. Have had it for almost a year and it has performed fine, sounds fine and only cost me $30 from Motoquipe..

Hey mate, not sure why you would do this - I would just replace the gauges with aftermarket ones. If you are 100% certain you want to do it I have changed from the 'pop-up screen' to the 3 gauge cluster with my own gauges in it. When I imported the car I had the pop-up screen option except there was no screen in there so effectively its just a replacement panel if that makes sense. You are welcome to have it and just give it a lick of paint then fasten your 3 freestanding gauges onto it.

However you think he may say 'however' alot at the start of sentences you don't need to however point it out.. However.. =P

Hi Fellow Skyline lovers, On Friday night I went through a RBT, I hadn't been drinking so I was fine in that regard. The female officer then told me I needed to go for a random drug test also. The officer reassured me it wasn't because of my car (I noticed they were pulling over pretty much everybody). The officer was polite and friendly, had a chat to me about the car and commented on how nice it was, we engaged in a conversation about cars and it was really relaxed and nice (it helped that she was rather foxy!!). Anyhow, was really good to have a good police experience after being hassled and disrespected on many other occasions I wanted to say something nice. I would like to end it by saying on the way out I f**kin reversed over a witches cone right in front of all of them and they just had a laugh as i awkwardly pulled it from my front bumper (how embarrassing). -itsme

Clear Indicators Faded Yellow (can You Get Them Back To Clear)
itsme replied to Yts's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
My headlights on the 34 were really yellow and I had tried just about everything (plastic polish, buffing etc) and came across this stuff called Glassylite. It's a little pricey but comes in a kit with different chemicals, sandpaper etc, I used this stuff and it has a final sealant you apply to the headlight (or in your case the indicator) which seals and protects it from UV. I must say I did this over 6 months ago and my headlights came up real nice and have stayed clear would definitely recommend this stuff. Got it for about $40 from Auto-One in WA, not sure of the equivalent in other states. Best of luck -
R34 Gt-t Power Fc For Sale

Yay finally got a PFC!! -
Thanks heaps random, i took off the the plastic around the ignition barrel and played around a bit, then i reversed the car about half a meter and the key came straight out. Not sure which one actually fixed it but appreciate your help, i was starting to panic a bit - if anybody else has the problem in an auto to manual conversion try moving the car forward or back, as dumb as that sounds i think that's what may of fixed my problem (or that and a combination of 'playing around' with the ignition. -Steve

Hi All, As title suggests - car has been fine, no probs with anything then suddenly key got stuck in ignition barrel. Can turn the car on and move key forward and back just cannot release the key, have tried moving steering wheel around and jiggling key (for nearly 2 hours!!) before i stopped before i snapped something. I have been reading through heaps of material and I'm reaching a point where i might have to go to a locksmith but can't really afford to do so. My car was an auto to manual conversion and i was reading something about the car not knowing its in 'park' not sure if this is the problem or how to tackle it but any info appreciated. I am hoping it is just a loose wire of some sort that is locking the key in, kinda makes sense but at this stage my car can't be locked and the doors are open with the key in the ignition - i have taken off battery lead for time being but don't wanna leave it like that for more than a night. Cheers guys -Steve

I have a 4 door 34 and i love it, prefer the look of it to the coupe any day plus its something a little different.. All down to what you like mate and what you can afford, i had plenty of people trying to tell me what i should and shouldn't get in the end i thought f**k 'em - went out on a limb and i haven't looked back. I still admire my own car regularly and enjoy washing an waxing it whenever i get the chance regardless of what anybody else says or thinks! Best of luck with your decision.

I'm sorry i'm not of much help in regards to your question but i must say you have a very nice looking car in your DP. It's good to see such a nice 4 door, I'm new to the scene and just got a 34 4 door and I'm in love but i must say i really like the kit on your 32. Hope you can find somebody to help you.

I actually thought there would be some sort of benefit to getting a fmic but maybe i dont need one then.. although the temptation for that 'mean' look is certainly there.. thanks for advice

Until you mentioned it i hadn't realized there was a place devoted to doing this I'll have to look into it for certain coz i would definitely like to know how to handle my baby. Did you just go the one time or did you go a few times to get the hang of things?
-
Ok thanks, I've been looking at apexi ones but i've heard blitz air filters are good too and i just have to make sure its really secure right so the cops dont pick on me too much?
-
Haha.. there is no comparison.. poor bloody lancer, it never had a taco (they come stock without one) but it sounded like it was redlining in each gear.. good memories in that thing though was driven pretty hard coz i tried to squeeze any and all power out of it. Had a custom made Webber carby on it so it sounded beasty but end of the day it was still a slow front wheel drive 1.5 ltr.. massive jump in power of course to a 2.5 ltr turbo! still getting used to the loss of traction in the wet, was scary as all hell at first but i'm still being ever so cautious i dont wanna harm my baby. Think the girlfriend is feeling a little neglected after my new acquisition.

Thanks heaps.. great bunch of people in here, i feel overwhelmed by the good responses and really appreciate all the help and advice
