  2. By all means compression test the engine before modifying any car. I am curious what difference you think running 18psi vs 21psi will make. If the car is kept away from det how is the ringland going to fail? 12psi with det will fubar it as easily as 18psi.

  5. HKS produced a turbo with the 52 trim comp however this does not mean that all turbos listed as 3037 aka 3076 are 52 trim.

  7. That noise could be anything from a intake leak to turbo/manifold gasket leak. Perhaps you should (or your mechanic) should thoroughly inspect for this first before you spend money changing turbos. Once again the R34 turbo has a slightly larger turbine and will make almost no difference on a stock car at stock boost with a stock ecu.
  8. Is it still making boost? When can you hear the bearing noise? I have read so many threads like this over the years and stock turbos are either working or the turbine has gone down the cat. If you want to upgrade you really need to take the time to search SAU as there are so many threads devoted to upgrading turbos. Try searching with 'hiflow' 'hypergear' 'gcg' as a starting points if you are determined to replace the turbo. The R34 turbo isn't much of an upgrade btw.
  9. Getting back to your original comment that your turbo is blowing smoke. I have no idea how you have reached this conclusion but I would stop yourself from buying anything until this is diagnosed correctly. There is no point replacing parts until you know what actually needs replacing. Describe the conditions under which you see smoke.

  12. BKR's are the V-groove?? Last trip on the dyno these plugs (new) didn't want to take the timing that BCPR's would take.
  13. The engine is from the R33 GTR parts bin. Check the RB26 dyno thread in 'forced induction' and see what everyone has made using them.
  14. Thanks Jonno, I looked up Ebay and Vulture seem to have the springs. There is a spring manufacturer near my work that can make one to suit I hear via the grapevine as an alternative but I need to run that down next week.
  15. Opps, sorry about that, driving while reading a dyno sheet with three overlays and texting in the dark is not my strong suit. Yours will match it soon enough.
  16. Without back to backing with an open 0.82 housing it is hard to tell. On the road it drives nicely, it makes boost much earlier on the road than the dyno. I am not sure it is down on power. It is +/-10kw to most other results (excluding the outlying results from special dyno's) Yavus felt there was an exhaust restriction based on the rate of climb and the taper at the top end. I am not so sure, it could be the old external gate (pretty sure it runs a 7-8psi spring) it could be the turbine housing maxing out. A 1 bar spring would make life easier for the boost controller. Anyone know where to get one for an old school HKS gate? Ultimately it makes power around where it should, 200rwkw at 4100rpm isn't shabby on this dyno. I can reinstall the de-cat but 10kw or so extra top end is useless to me (assuming it is even an issue). We could have played silly buggers and brought it all on much earlier for dick schwinging reasons but this is consistent with other Unigroup sheets.

  20. Minor things like basic oil change I do myself. More involved/technical things my cars go to ASR.
  21. Change the F/C1 and F/C2 settings to 1500rpm or so in idle/rev.
  22. I disagree with the statement 'mostly likely wrong'. You do need to go in with your eyes open as some odo's are tampered with but that's when the overall condition of the car comes into play. Definitely look at buying one from SAU members with mods already done it saves a lot of money and time.
  23. The VG single turbo has the same OP6 turbine housing that you already have on a neo RB25 but a smaller compressor (about RB20 sized comp from memory). Good luck with making more power than the stock turbo with one. The stock turbo with aftermarket engine management, 3" exhaust FMIC and about 12psi will max out around 200rwkw (+/- 10kw)
  24. Or you could look for a exhaust manifold/turbo leak before spending money on replacing parts that are probably not broken. x2 on where you hold WOT for 2-3minutes??? Are you a test driver for Bugatti?
