I'll be at a wedding...
-
I'll be there at the Sound Off Mobile Installations stand (a friend runs it). Come and say hello
-
Not long after I first got my car about four years ago, I had some bloke in a shitty old EA Falcon yell "I think your Dad wants his car back!" while stopped beside me at the lights. I turned to him and said "I think the wrecker is looking for yours". Even his mates in the car were pissing themselved laughing at him. It took him until the lights went green to retort with "umm... no they're not!!!", I just laughed at him and drove away

The SAU page has been updated. Again, if you can think of some way to improve it (keeping in mind that Optus free webspace doesn't allow server-side scripting) let me know. Basically I've set it up as more than a FAQ page now, and it contains info on the upcoming Cruise Out West (inventive name eh?), and provision for heaps of other stuff.

Gary is currently on a working holiday so won't be able to answer for at least another week and a bit. Slip has copped quite a bit of flak in this thread - the club is here largely due to his input, and for that point alone he has earned my praises. I'm not saying you're not allowed to disagree with him or dispute something that he says, just remember that without him, there wouldn't even be a club. Adrian - aww shucks  The FAQ is a work in progress... if you think something needs to be added or changed or something isn't clear enough, send an email to the address on the page. I pick it up with all my home email so it will be read. Slip and Gary haven't been consulted yet either so they may well have something to add. Keep the feedback coming - we don't know what everyone wants unless you tell us PS Cards are being printed this week after problems with file formats, then printer dramas etc. My fault, but they'll be sent out with the stickers asap.
-
I agree - although it did get nasty for a little bit, this thread has been valuable in airing concerns. If people feel that there are unresolved issues that require a formal meeting, say so now and we'll organise a time and place. On a side note, I have a draft FAQ up now, it's up HERE. I haven't consulted the other guys yet so my name is the only one listed in full, and I didn't have the PO Box info handy either so it's left blank until I speak to the others. If there are any other comments/suggestions on content, email sauqld at optushome.com.au.

Okay... FAQ is up, in a manner of speaking. I haven't spoken to the other guys about it yet so my name is the only one I've included in full. If there are any suggestions on content, let me know Skylines Australia Qld FAQ page

Erin, Ben, and anyone else who is concerned about non-attendance So that we can move on from what will no doubt otherwise become a long-term sore point, maybe a little explanation is in order. In the last six months I have lost my job, and in the process of trying to set up a business, have been running at a massive loss. Sparing the cash to attend a cruise was the least of my worries, and yes, even five bucks was well outside budget. If you had a choice between going on a cruise, or making a token payment to stop your phone (a lifeline in a mobile business) being cut off, which would you choose? THAT is why I personally haven't attended an event in a while. Now that I've been forced to discuss private matters, can we please move on? I'm not complaining or disagreeing with people (quite the opposite in fact), I just wanted to clear that up. I could not agree more, and all this bickering does detract somewhat from the good things that have happened. Go and have some input into my cruise thread

I've posted up a thread in Events re a cruise out west toward Warwick/Toowoomba, if you're interested in that, feel free to comment. The short version: cruise with plenty of stops and photo opportunities, families invited I'd thought about making it one of these 'follow the clue' events, but a cruise out west doesn't really give too much scope due to lots of nothing for long periods of time, and the danger of being stranded miles away from anyone if you miss a clue or something. Offer suggestions or just ignore me, either way I'll be listening
-
Hmmm.... thoughts?
-
Yeah try Mercury, they're actually a sponsor of SAU Qld, maybe mention that you're from SAU NSW and they'll possibly give you a similar deal to those of us north of the border.
-
I'm here Yes search is an under-utilised function. I didn't respond to the other threads as the poster had already been referred to the relevant places, but there is already plenty of info in a couple of the links above. I'm putting together a FAQ-type page already with this kind of info on it, when it's done (and when I figure out where I'm going to host it) I'll make a post and have it stickied.

Do you drive with your fog lights on?
Revhead replied to Terreto's topic in General Automotive Discussion
If you're in your car with your foglights on, day or night, and it's not foggy, turn them the **** off. No it doesn't look cool. If you have those super-bright "driving" lights, turn them the **** off too. Don't be so friggen inconsiderate. At least aim them down a bit. It won't give as much distance vision, but ffs at least other drivers can see where they're going. If you drive around with your high beams on, and there's oncoming traffic or you're following someone, turn them the **** off too. I swear I'm gonna start carrying around one of those ultra-bright handheld halogen lights, if some farkwit refuses to drop their fogs/highbeams/ridiculously bright driving lights, they cop an eyeful of light. They seem to think it's OK to blind me, and on at least two occasions I've had to pull over where I was to let that greeny-coloured haze that happens when you've just looked at a bright light in an otherwise dark environment dissipate. Yes, it's one of my pet hates. -
I managed to keep mine spotless for a good two years, with the exception of a small rock bouncing off the bonnet while driving and chipping the windscreen. Then, inside the space of two weeks, pretty much the whole right hand side was damaged in separate incidents (inci-dints?) 1) My dad parked next to me and pulled the portable generator out of the back of his ute. His grip slipped a little so he let it swing... right into my front guard. 2) About a week later, parked in a carpark miles away from any other cars, I came back to find what looked to be a deliberate kick or something in the driver's door. Made a decent dint and the paint was down to metal. 3) The NEXT DAY, parked at the doctor's in the very last spot, deliberately parked so far across that I couldn't have opened the passenger door to give idiots more space on the driver's side, I came back to find that some moron had managed to open their door onto the SAME SPOT as the tosser had kicked the day before. Result: two more chips of paint missing, down to undercoat, but with a nice garnish of metallic dark blue paint. Argh!! 4) Had a short lull of about three or four months with no further damage, then I came across some druggo who was going off his nut in the middle of town. As I approached he started screaming something ("I'm gonna get you Commie" I think it was... wtf), then ran at my car and kicked the rear wheelarch. He scuffed some paint, but the best bit was that he got caught on the tyre and his ankle was dragged under the wheel. Drove straight up to the cop shop and the short version is that they cleared me of any wrongdoing. Thankfully the scuff has mostly polished out too, but geez, what a psycho. 5) A week later, parked at CarLovers (ironically) I came back to find a nice foot-long scratch just below where the fuel filler would be, but on the other side. A quick inspection revealed a wheelbarrow a metre or so away with red paint scrapings on the handle. Surprise surprise, noone owned up (despite me seeing the wanker pushing the wheelbarrow 30 seconds earlier) so I ended up having no proof of who did it. I went back later in the day after everyone had left to finish washing my car, and noticed that someone had vacuumed a full bucket of soapy water with a 'keep away from moisture' vacuum. Morons that damage other people's property piss me off something fierce. One day I'm going to catch someone in the act, and they'll find out the hard way how much I despise vandals.

Well if we're talking other cars too, these are the more memorable ones: VC Commodore, modded 202 + 5 speed: ~220km/h @ 6300rpm on dyno. Could only get around 140 from memory at Morgan Park as the front straight is so short, years ago before track was extended, but it saw a mind-numbing 170 iirc at QR. I took a while to wind up! It didn't like to stop or take corners that much either, but was fun and a good learning tool. Mate's Subaru Sherpa: Managed to hit 110km/h on the M1 Yes, it took bloody ages, but we managed to get 660cc of two-cylinder fury up to the speed limit I've heard rumours that some have manaaged 120 and even 130 in these before with one person and unladen, but it was scary enough at 110. Cheap to run though! Late model auto Laser: 185km/h on unrestricted road (work trip to NT). Took nearly 4 full minutes to get there too. To 185km/h I mean, not NT CBR250R: 195km/h, speed limited but wouldn't have gone much quicker. Darlington Park back straight Drags: R33 - 170. CBR250 - 150. CBR929RR - 210

Hi guys First of all thanks for airing your thoughts in a mature manner. We are quite conscious of our responsibilities, and rest assured that there is still plenty of behind the scenes activity, aimed at making your club the best it can be. It sounds cliche'd, but it's true!! Current Positions El Presidente: Slip Treasurer: Gary1 Secretary: Me We don't want to be seen as ordaining What Thou Shalt Attend so, although events will be organised by SAU Qld periodically, we encourage everyone to have some input into the club. If you want to organise something, go ahead. If you need any of us to help you or you're not sure if the event is legal/acceptable, just ask. If you think that we're doing something wrong, or the event could be improved in some way, contact us. Picking up a pattern? Re more people in the ranks: I do agree, but the numbers should be kept to a reasonable level. There's an old saying about cooks and broth that fits in here. An Events Coordinator could be a good thing, mainly so that anyone from outside who deals with the club (eg racetrack owners) will have a consistent contact. Any other suggestions? MM2: I think the forum covers the regular newsletter, though there's nothing stopping one being sent out if something important happens or is coming up. Does anyone disagree? On another note: Some people have asked where the hell my car's been! I've had some personal issues lately which have prevented me from bringing the 33 out, but I do still make an effort to attend, even if it is only as a passenger. I'm actually quite pissed that I've had to miss a few events recently... the situation looks to be improving though, so expect to see the misfiring red beast at a non-competitive event near you Anyway, my take on events: In-person club meetings Yep, absolutely. There'll be AGMs anyway, but if something needs to be discussed, there can certainly be a meeting for that too. Regular monthly cruises (some family day out aswell) Regular cruises are right up there on the list. Family day out = more leisurely cruise with longer, more frequent stops??? Show and Shine maybe twice a year Show n shines could be setup as part of another event, eg if we enter a stand at Jambo or something, or if we have a dyno day we could use the carpark for it. Or does everyone want a dedicated show n shine event? Dyno days Yep, dyno days at a sponsor's premises are already happening, they're fairly easy to set up too so they'll definitely continue as long as people keep showing interest Track days at Qld racway and Willowbank drags Yep to both. The aim is to use a variety of tracks - I'm thinking Darlington, Morgan Park (too far??), Lakeside if it's a goer, that kind of thing. Skid pan day Already a fairly regular occurrence, I can't see these disappearing any time soon Tech talk day Probably a more appropriate title than 'dodgy mechanics' Yearly event calander I think this is already a function of vBulletin. If not I'm happy to whip up a page that'll do it. Go-karting Nah, us fat bastards are at too much of a disadvantage! Seriously though, not much beats a gokart bonding session Social, non-car related activity Most definitely. Ideas? BBQ is a good one, particularly as a meet-n-greet and as a non-threatening event for potential new members. Thanks pred! Charity days Legendary idea. There's so many positives to this I don't even know where to start Umm anyway, that's about it from me for the time being! My apologies for such a ridiculously long post!
-
My line - dunno. Had it up to 190ish (limiter) plenty of times, but haven't had it out at the track since PFC went in due to dying/dead coils, which I'm currently too pov to fix. Bike - somewhere around 250-260 at Darlington Park, maybe could have gone a few km/h quicker but was already crapping myself about the blind right-hander at the end of the straight! I've seen 288 on it, at an airfield way out near where I was contracted at the time. Wanted 300 but not enough tarmac.
-
Me too, send it my way please Edit: Removed addy to stop email trawlers

Nothing They're a replacement strut, they're no different to a stocker in terms of putting it all in. They're supplied with a new spring seat, all you need to do is swap over (or replace) the spring, bump stop, dust cover and the spring hat (the bit right at the top) and bolt it all into the car. So easy even I can do it
-
I don't remember them off the top of my head as it was ~80,000km ago I just took my old ones as samples to CBC (which is about 500m from my house), who matched em up for me. It did take a couple of visits to find someone who knew what they were on about. At the time (about 3 or so years ago when there were hardly any 'lines around), genuine wasn't an option, as Nissan said it'd take three weeks to get some in from Japan and didn't have a listing to compare with the RB30 ones... so they wouldn't supply them for fear of being blamed later.
-
Idler and tensioner bearings. Go to somewhere like CBC rather than Nissan though - when I got mine, the Nissan ones were something like $350 each, at CBC they were (from memory) $40 for the pair. Same brand, same stampings, same everything, they're exactly the same bearing, the only thing I didn't get was a Nissan logo on the box and a much bigger bill Also it doesn't hurt to get fan/aircon/power steering belts, and check the balancer while you're there.
-
Don't remember how much, but they're not too bad. And yes, I'd be doing it while you have the timing covers off
-
Pfft, minor point
-
Well take the intake piping off then... it only takes a couple of minutes and makes it a damn sight easier to get at the coils.
