Was great fun, despite not being able to bring my own car out this time. I got a drive of the Stagea and scored a few passenger seats though, so it's all good I didn't take too many pictures (spent most of the day with the video camera) but the few I did take are at http://members.optushome.com.au/revhead304.../Skidpan040815/ - warning, all pics load on the main page (ie no thumbs) so the page is 2.5-3.0 MB in size. Dialup beware! I have 2048x1536 versions of the pics too, if you're in need of a higher res version. Numberplates are visible so you'll have to identify yourself first High res pics are are 800k each in size.

Michelle, MUD won the soundoff. He got it mainly on sound quality - it was very crisp and clear, dispite running full range through the front speakers. And, for a single sealed 12 iirc, the bass was impressive.

It's on glass, it should come off easily with a razor blade as slip said. The way some people are going on () the razors are already out anyway It's a damn sight easier to get off than those friggen spots of polish/wax that fly everywhere when you machine buff the car... argh

boj - lol no worries Yes, maintenance plays a very large part in how 'good' a car is. From what I hear DR30s are great fun with some decent aftermarket suspension (hint, hint)... and we can't have a Skyline out-handled by an Excel now can we?

Boj - Look at things from a mechanical point of view. They're built to a budget. Anywhere they could skimp, they did. They even put the cheapest, skinniest, nastiest tyres they could find, on the car. These things are dangerous in an emergency situation. Build quality is a foreign concept to them too. Look in/under a Kia/Daewoo/Hyundai etc and you'll be thankful you were never involved in an 'incident'... Actually, there was a recall for Excels a few years back (and how's this for sound engineering practice?). The front subframe (which locates the suspension, brakes, just about everything in the front actually) is spot-welded to the floorpan, and in a few cases this had fallen off, leaving the driver with absolutely NO control of the vehicle. Hyundai's official fix for this? Drill one hole through this plate and the floorpan, put one pop rivet through. Omfg. Yet another example of saving a buck wherever it's absolutely possible. And people wonder why I'll never buy one.

There are other brands as well, anything sold locally in Australia should be OK. Holden, Mitubishi, Honda, Nissan, Toyota etc. I'd steer clear of brands like Hyundai, Kia et al, they are built to a price and feel like it. Have a look under one and you'll never quibble over spending a few grand extra for quality!! If you can stretch your budget to around $15k, you can get some very nice machinery. Audi Mid 90's A4 Early Audi 90 BMW Mid-late 90s 316i - if you can handle the car being hideously slow and the bargain basement model of the BMW range, they're OK Early-mid 90s E36 320i - 2 litre six, still not much power but enough to get around, comfy and look and sound nice Early 90s 5 or 7 series - Very plush, but normally high kms and I'd hate to think how much servicing and/or repairs would cost Daewoo (or Kia, or Hyundai, or anything similar) As mentioned above, STAY AWAY. They look like really good value on the surface, but I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. Eunos Mazda's "prestige" brand. 30X - not bad, look OK, might still be percieved as a sports car by insurers 500, 800, 800M - Luxury, look nice, no idea about mechanicals Ford Fairlane, Fairmont, Falcon - I'm not really telling you anything new here. Beware ex-taxi's, fleet cars, govt cars. Not the best built cars on the planet but still fairly good value for money. Capri - Stay away. Slow even in turbo form, don't handle that well, convertible leaks like a seive. Holden/HSV Early HSV's - Not too bad, but probably flogged, and insurance/rego would kill you. Mazda Early 90's MX5 - handle well, convertible, but very slow MX6 turbo - go quite well, but most have been flogged MX6 V6 - very similar to the Probe as they share many common parts. I know a couple of people who've bought them, and never had a problem. Smooooooth Umm anyway that's all I can be bothered typing, there are plenty more but that should give you some ideas anyway

When I'm not in the Skyline I'm out on the bike - 2001 Honda CBR929RR FireBlade. It's an Erion Racing model too, which I'm told has bigger cams, modded ECU, and a couple of other tweaks to give it a few more hp. Bucketloads of fun, uses about half the fuel of the 'line, pops off-the-throttle monos at highway speed, and sounds really angry over 9000rpm Pictures HERE

Yes, the stock ECU will have trouble with the much-smaller-than-stock injector openings at idle/very low load, but it will work. The SAFC doesn't "freak" due to the bigger injectors, it's just that the stock ECU wasn't designed for the very low duty cycles you need with large injectors to idle/cruise smoothly. Probably should have added that to my previous post, cheers for clarification -

SAFC shouldn't give a stuff what size injectors you have - if the ECU can drive them, the SAFC can control them. All the SAFC does is modify the AFM signal so that the stock computer opens the injectors for a different amount of time. The flow rate of those injectors shouldn't matter. -
It is definitely happening. Slip is putting together a detailed post with all the info you'll need, it should be up later today. It wasn't left to the last minute, this kind of thing is very time-consuming and we have lives too. The venue, sponsors etc have been organised for some time, but as always there have been some minor but important details that held things up. These have been sorted thanks to Gary and Slip - allowing the day to go ahead as planned. Inaugurating a club isn't a simple case of wandering into a building a filling out a bit of paper with the club name on it. There is a shiteload more than that involved, all of which somehow has to be organised between work and personal commitments. Props to Slip and Gary for managing to do it. The detailed post a bit later on will answer most other questions

Yeah I rang MSD and was quoted $1500 trade price for a DIS4+DIS2 setup. That very quickly made it not an option...

I'd be interested in a set of these $600 Splitfires too... To get the S2 ones to work on a S1 engine, is it simply a case of removing the ignitor box and running the signal wires directly to the coils, or is there more to it?

Echoing, most of rb25's comments, but here we go anyway 1. Dunno. Probably. 2. Yep, as long as the engine is close enough to stock you should be right 3. You just go through the menus on the hand controller, pick rev limit, then press up or down until you see the number you want. It's a bit tedious if you're making big changes (10rpm at a time!) but can be useful. You can set the rev limit lower than your idle, just to confuse it, or if you need to give your car to a panel beater or a mechanic, drop the limit to something LOW. I set mine to 1800rpm last time, and took the hand controller with me so they couldn't change it back. 4. Dunno. I got mine from someone on these forums 5. No you don't NEED one, but it's well worth getting it for the monitoring what the engine is doing, and for making the occasional small change (like the rev limit) 5 (2nd one ). From what I hear it retails for something like $800. I have no idea how it compares to other similar devices, but the fact it interfaces with the PFC can't be a bad thing. 6. Wouldn't have a clue -
