  1. Putting two different wheels and/or tyres on the back can ruin your diff. Normally, in a straight line, the diff isn't doing any real work because both axles are turning at the same speed. Change one wheel size, and all of a sudden, the axles turn at differing speeds, and the diff has to compensate.Putting them on the 'turning' end isn't as bad as you might think - I know that I certainly would be driving a damn sight more sedately with a space saver on the car, and I'd be going to the nearest tyre place I could find, regardless of which corner the spare was on. They're only rated for 80km/h anyway.
  2. We need more bike times up!! Come on guys, I know there's more two-wheelers out there, if you've been to the track, post up your times
  3. I would be extremely keen for a copy of this... tried the FTP link but it's not letting me in unfortunately (too many connections) I'll keep trying, but in the meantime, if anyone else can host it it would be greatly appreciated! PS Thanks for sharing this, I know a lot of people have been looking for it
  4. Could possibly be spark plug/s, but I'm guessing you've got a dead coil.
  5. If you're caught doing blockies in the middle of town and someone notices that you don't have fully sick neons, just light 'er up and voila!
  6. Happy Birthday mate
  7. Cos they'd whip the R32 GTSt's
  8. Hehe that chicken is cool Nice outfit too...
  9. Lamborghini donated the car. From http://www.autoindex.org/news.plt?no=837
  10. I have a PFC (base map) on my stockish R33 GTS25t, and with Iridium plugs it misses badly at the top end of the rev range at anything over about 3/4 throttle. I had a quick look at the fuel map and there's a sudden, massive jump in fuelling at around 4.5-5k, it goes from like 102 to 113 in the space of one cell. Just wondering if it would be appropriate for people to post up their PFC fuel/ignition maps, along with maybe settings like acceleration enrichment and idle settings? I'm wondering about issues like intellectual property... no doubt some workshops wouldn't like the results of their expertise posted for others to benefit from, but the guys who've done their own tuning, are happy with the results and are happy to share their maps as a starting point for others wouldn't have a problem. If you fit into this category, you know what to do Note that I'm not suggesting people read any posted maps as gospel and copy them cell-for-cell into their own ECU. They should only be used as GUIDELINES for tuning your ECU, as every engine is different, and mods such as different types of exhaust, pod, FMIC and particularly turbos and cams etc will alter the ideal settings. Comments? Suggestions? ...maps? :headspin:
  11. Acknowledging that the 2.6L RB engine is better than the 5.7L V8 could be a good thing I have to admit that I do kinda like the late model Corvettes, especially the (late great) Lingenfelter twin turbo'd jobbies. Mmmm...
  12. I feel your pain, that's happened to me not once, but TWICE!! If the gap below your boot is a little larger than normal, you'll probably find that the beaver panel will be bent. Also check the outer edges of the taillight assemlies, they'll break their seal to the rear 3/4 guards if the middle of the car was hit hard enough. If they need to do panelwork and not just replace/repair the bar, expect the bill to come to around $1500. Not that it really matters cos you're not paying for it anyway
  13. Aah shaddap ya flash bastard
  14. I usually get around 350-400km out of 55L, and that's with city driving, a PowerFC still on the base map (so sub 10.0:1 AFR's when booted), a button clutch (so more revs and a heavier throttle on takeoff) and a T3/4 turbo. When the car was stock minus pod, exhaust and 10psi, I'd regularly see 550km from 55L. On one trip (Ipswich to Rainbow Beach and back, plus a bit of driving in between, stock minus a quiet 3" exhaust) I managed over 900km on 54L of premium, or less than 6L/100km I made it to Rainbow Beach on less than 1/3 of a tank. I sat on 110km/h pretty much the whole way, and being NYE of 2000, I drove with a very light foot. My car is MUCH more efficient at 110 than at 100, IMHO it would've done at least 70 or 80km less on that tank at 100km/h.
  15. One thing that I don't think has been mentioned yet - although the oil pump does begin pumping the moment the engine cranks over, that doesn't mean that the whole engine is instantly lubricated. It takes a little time (only a few seconds) for the oil to make its way into the turbo/s, head, lifters if hydraulic, etc. I normally start my car, let it settle to a high idle (usually ~10 sec), then reverse it out of the garage. It usually takes a minute or two to shut the garage and lock the house, then I drive very sedately until the temp guage starts to move. Once the needle is on the guage instead of below it I'll let the turbo spool lightly. Once the gauge sits at normal operating temp I'll use anything up to half throttle - water temp does not necessarily equate to engine/oil temp. Once it's been indicating operating temp for a while (maybe 10 mins) it's normally right to fang.
  16. No no, I think that's plenty descriptive enough
  17. Hehe no dramas mate, I just recognised it from a few days ago
  18. Never had an at-fault acco, but have been involved in two, both rear enders, and both in the 33. Funniest (in hindsight at least) Anyway, a few months back, a bloke in a VT SS was behind me at a set of lights in front of a Caltex. The lights went green, the car in front of me went around the corner then stopped part way around (presumably to let a pedestrian cross, the road goes into a shopping centre), I stopped behind him as he was still partially blocking my lane, and the guy in the Commy behind me, who admits that he was 'looking at his daughter in the back seat' just ran straight into the back of me. His first comment was 'you were driving like a dickhead!!'. My response: 'I was stopped you retard'. He went on to comment about young hoons in import jap crap, and people being bad drivers etc. I just said to him then, 'which one of us wasn't looking out of the windscreen?'. I cut a nice 4.5" circle out of his front bumper with my muffler too He started threatening me with 'I know heaps of people, I can make things very difficult for you'. His brother turned up, it turns out he runs the towing yard across the road from my dad's workshop The cops turned up, one has a supercharged XR6 so we started talking about car stuff, the other cop's parents were selling a block of land to my parents. The guy that hit me said 'take it to this panel shop', I said 'I'm going there anyway, I know the owner'. All up, he was pretty pissed off He noticed that the car isn't very smooth on takeoff, I explained that this was due to my button clutch. He leaned in the window, and couldn't find it, dispite looking all over the dash, the centre console, steering wheel, door etc. He popped his head back out and said 'where is it?', and I said 'er... there...' as I pointed at the clutch pedal. 'No, your button clutch!! Where is it?!'. Explained what a button clutch is. Him: What do you need one of those for? The car is bone stock. Me: How do you know that? Him: I'm a mechanic. Me: Pretty shitty mechanic if you didn't even know what a button clutch is. Him: Me: Besides, how can you tell whether it's been modified? Him: I just can. Me: Didn't notice the intercooler at the front, aftermarket wheels, lowered suspension, or the tinted windows? You also can't see my turbo through the closed bonnet, can you? Him: Er, no, but I can see you've put in a sunroof... Me: That's factory. Him: ... Cops had arrived by this stage, he started pulling the whole 'bloody hoon driver' thing on them too. They said 'we can get a copy of the tape from the servo'. He went quiet... and he ended up paying for 100% of my repairs Worst (well, nearly) Driving along the Ipswich Motorway at Wacol, it was raining and this hero in an old V8 Statesman (about WB vintage) was spinning his wheels while merging. He pulled just in front of me, fishtailed to the left a bit, massively overcorrected, overcorrected even worse, bounced off the armco on the left, and ended up smashed against the trees on the median strip. This all happened about 5m in front of me, maybe about 10m after I'd started braking, and the only thing that saved me from running into him and/or some of the debris (I would not have been able to brake in time) was picking a gap and going through it. That gap meant heading for the armco myself, so I had to flick it back and let the car spin down the highway. I ended up stopped backwards on the highway... I ran over to the crashed Stato, abusing the hell out of the bloke, but when I got to him I went white. I thought 'oh shit, he's dead!'. I rang 000, got the ambos and cops out, by then the guy had regained conciousness but he was pretty messed up. A truckie who saw the whole thing from a distance walked over to me and said 'that was some of the best motherf***ing driving I've ever seen'. I said 'thanks man', then turned around and spewed on the grass... needless to say, when the police took my statement, I wasn't very complimentary toward Stato boy's driving...
  19. On a side note, the guys on the Ford forum were talking about a video. Anyone know where I might be able to download a copy? Also, just having a flick through, I noticed this quote: ... and it STILL won :bahaha:
  20. I take it that means 'not much', or at least I hope that's what you mean...
  21. And thankyou www.howstuffworks.com
  22. It's RESTECP dammit!! Agreed, it's a step in the right direction. Lol, only 4 litres should do it But they'd need the extra cubes for as long as their kerb weight stays on the porky side of 1700kg.If anyone has ever looked really hard at a Skyline, you'll notice that there are weight-saving bits all over the place. Suspension parts, the way the metal overlaps and is joined in places, plastic or alloy instead of steel, etc etc. Ford Australia probably can't afford to put that much development into their local cars (from what I hear they were damn lucky to be approved by Ford HQ to develop the turbo motor), so they overengineer - when was the last time you heard of a Falcon breaking anything except a gearbox or diff? This makes them pretty tough, and they need to be to cope with outback conditions which would shake most imported cars apart, but also very heavy. Being a compromise makes them a less focussed car than the Skyline - if Ford decided to build an XR6T from the ground up as a sports car, rather than being forced to take the base cars from the same assembly line that the fleet and family cars come from, it'd be a friggen weapon!! I'd buy one. Hehe certainly would be! Reminds me of a mate with a tunnel rammed nitrous 383ci LX Torana... he ran 11.4 @ 147mph. Pathetic for the power it was putting out (look at the mph), but the ET doesn't tell the whole story! He chopped a Ferrari F50 in it too, lmao
  23. Don't forget that it is difficult to extract power from the XR6T with the stock electronics due to the XR6T's torque-limiting code. From all accounts that I've heard, you can get an XR6T making some decent power, but over a fairly short period of time, the ECU will figure out that you're making more power and will gradually retune the car until it falls within factory power specs again. Therefore modding an XR6T to go much better than factory is a more expensive and painful exercise than modding a Skyline, where the ECU doesn't care/know how much power the car makes, as long as it's getting fuel and spark it's happy. This in itself could mean that there'll be a heap of XR6T's running within half a second of stock, then a big gap, then the guys who've modified enough to warrant spending the extra on standalone management (fly by wire throttle don't forget, which limits options). Things like the Nizpro 'boost box' may blur the lines a little depending on price (I have NFI what they're worth), but either way, with that many cubes and forced induction, making good power isn't rocket science. I say bring it on
  24. I've raced a stock BA XR6T at the drags in my R33. Well, Gary1 was driving my car cos I was strapping the bike that night, (11.209 @ 129.27mph, woohoo ) but anyway, on with the story Terminal speeds at the end of the track were XR6T: 94.52mph, R33: 101.53mph. Gary's absolutely bloody terrible (but entertaining) 3.295 sec 60' time meant that the 'line lost the race, but gives an indication of power:weight of each car. My car had 3" exhaust dropped under the front seats, 12 psi, and pod... I reckon give the XR6T similar mods and it'd be making good power, assuming that damn tricky ECU doesn't take over, but I'm unsure how it'd fare then given that it has to haul 200-300kg extra around. It would be an interesting race. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of them for a week...
