  1. Aargh!!! I'd love to come but some TOOL decided he'd rather look in his back seat that out of his windscreen, and consequently my car is up for some repairs...

    Tail ender

I was the second of three cars stopped at a red light. The car in front of me moved away and (without indicating, incidentally) turned left, then stopped abruptly. I'm not sure why, I couldn't see past it (it was a big trayback 4wd), but I assume it was for a pedestrian. Anyway, I stopped with plenty of room to spare, but the nimrod behind me wasn't watching where he was going and was still on the throttle, and ran into the back of my car. Result: A quoted $1500 in repairs, including a new rear bar, reinforcement and work to the beaver panel. Friggen hell. Initially I thought I was up for a battle, but thankfully the other driver finally admitted fault, after it was pointed out that a) I was stopped, B) he hit the back of me, c) he was, by his own admission, looking at his daughter who was in the back seat at the time, and d) the whole thing would be on tape as it happened in front of a service station. The police didn't seem to convinced of his version of events either, because every time they spoke to him he had a different story. There were a few amusing moments though. One was trying to explain the button clutch. No matter how hard he looked, he couldn't find it, despite paying special attention to the dash and the centre console... after finally getting it through to him, he reckons I don't need a racing clutch because my car is 'bone stock'. I said 'how the hell would you know?', and he triumphantly replied that he's a mechanic, he knows these things. I pissed myself laughing about then, asked him about the x-ray vision he obviously has to see through my closed bonnet, and pointed at the exhaust he'd just run into, the wheels and suspension, the FMIC, etc. Then he said 'You were driving like a farking idiot mate!!' to which I replied 'er... I was stopped you tool...' even the cops had a bit of a giggle :slap: Pics are at http://members.optushome.com.au/turbo202 - click on either of the Skyline pics at the top of the main screen, then scroll to the bottom. In hindsight, I think he was just trying to intimidate me, make me back down etc because he knew he was in the wrong and would have to pay for the damage unless he could force me into a mistake. He kept trying to get me to 'admit' that I'd somehow caused the acco, even though he wasn't even looking out of his windscreen at the time. Moral of the story: stand your ground, tell the truth and pay particular attention to everything the other driver says, even if it means recording or taking notes. They may well say something that will speed up the process of getting your car fixed.
  3. Anything from http://members.optushome.com.au/turbo202 I have higher-res pics if it helps. The only thing I'm thinking of doing is putting on a GTR rear wing and getting a paint job in the same colour - I'm sure this would be a *huge* challenge for you guys, lol - so feel free to do whatever you like to showcase your talents.
  4. I have a funny feeling you're looking at it the wrong way... I don't think the wastegate isn't dumping enough exhaust gas to hold your boost, I reckon the wastegate isn't completely shutting, making the boost you *should* be getting come on much slower. This fits in with the descriptions you have given. It's extremely unlikely that, with a stock turbo and only a fuel pump/cooler/cam gear, the wastegate would become restrictive.
  5. Haha yeah it's a few kays from my place - it's on a stocko Mazda 626 with a huge stereo in it
  6. Still for sale - price reduced to $500 ono
  7. If it falls through I will pick them up from you for $100. I'm in Ipswich.
  8. Anyone's welcome - the more the merrier. Even if you don't get a drive this time, it's worthwhile coming along and spectating so that you know how the day works. The atmosphere is great too, and there's plenty of opportunities to get some nice photos. Unless you're like me, and every photo you take sucks

    What a laugh

Yeah it's been around for a while, but I still smile every time I hear/read it A bit like the bogan who took the number plates off his XF and did donuts in front of the camera, the coppers just rang the mobile number printed on his back window next to the for sale sticker... been bandied around a million times but it's still funny

    Club Update

Gary and slip have really been the driving force behind getting SAU Qld up and running (OK that was a bad pun!!). Yes, both have full-time jobs that have nothing to do with SAU and yes, both have contributed bucketloads of their own moolah to get things happening. The amount of things that need to happen for the club to be officially recognised is phenomenal, and the fact that it's happening AT ALL, particularly as it's being organised during spare time, is a tribute to the dedication both of the guys have to the Skyline scene. Ben, you don't have to join if you don't want to but it certainly wouldn't be frowned upon I don't think slip's comment was aimed at anyone in particular - we need as many members as possible just to recoup the money that Gary and slip have spent, let alone to pay recurrent costs, "behind the scenes" stuff and once-off outlays to make your life behind the wheel that little bit more worthwhile! Everyone's been really patient up till now - just hold out a little bit longer, we're nearly there! Don't forget that every member of the board is as fanatical about Skylines as anyone else on these forums - we'd like to see it up and running ASAP too, we just want to make sure it's done properly to avoid hiccups further down the track. If we have this level of enthusiasm when the club is up and running, we're on a winner.
  11. NRB - I thought that was the V-Spec II?? They used R33 GTR parts on the last of the R32s. Finned diff usually means A-LSD, which is a V-Spec thing. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  12. Features: * Straight plug-in replacement for factory ECU * Uses original mounting brackets * 7,500rpm rev limit * No speed limiter It also seems to handle increased boost a little better than the stocker too, but this is just a seat-of-the-pants thing. I did have to knock my timing back a few degrees but other than that it ran perfectly. The only reason it's been removed from the car is to make way for my shiny new PowerFC Asking $550 ono, which is worth it just for the classy build plate complete with 'Japlish' Can organise shipping within Australia at the buyer's expense. 13. I offered to show the Qld Transport guys my boobs once (hey I was just trying to be nice) and they REFUSED -gasp- They still went over the car, despite my generous offer... they couldn't find anything wrong though, she was bone stock at the time
  14. Get a bike
  15. Ooh yeah, my first drive of a turbo car was a mate's auto MX6. Absolutely loved it, except for the FWD torque steer. I kinda like lag - without it, how would you get the rush when the turbo comes on song?
  16. Hehe yeah pretty much - I've completely pulled out the inner guard, and I'm in the process of fabricating a new one. I've also relocated the wiring loom further out of the way. All up it gives me an extra ~1.5" of wheel travel before it hits anything, which is more than enough. btw it's the front right hungry6, I wasn't going to stuff around with piddly little undersized things like the T78. My mate's cousin's uncle's mum reckons I could get two Y2Ks spooling at 1500rpm by using an adjustable cam gear and a Brock Polariser. Is this true? She also said that, with the extra power the car will make with the stickers I'm putting on, those turbos would become a restriction over 6000rpm - except for buying more expensive stickers, what can I do about it?
  17. avalonea Thanks for the info - if you could let me know price etc that'd be excellent predator Thanks for your input. OK, here's how I see things - and tell me if I'm wrong, which I probably am The turbo shouldn't change 'too' much how the ECU runs the car, the AFM still tells it how much air it's getting. The AFM is maxing out purely due to the amount of airflow through it, which has nothing to do with the ECU. The ECU just reads the value and uses it in its calculations. I'm not using a MAP sensor so the AFM should still be accurate (until it maxes out). As for the injectors maxing out, I have absolutely no idea whether there are more variables involved than a 3D map (TPS, AFM, RPM) - perhaps the PFC is picking up much greater airflow, reading less boost than it expects, and pumping fuel in? Dunno, but I can tell it's running far from optimally. Either way I'll take your advice and get it tuned once I've got the FMIC on (hopefully that should be done in the next couple of days), that should ease my paranoia a bit, but I'll definitely be needing bigger injectors/pump/afm anyway due to RB30 plans. Hopefully I'll get some more midrange... :burnout:
  18. Thanks for the advice, I'll check it out When you say new, do you mean new stock, or new aftermarket? Yep, turbo is ball bearing. It's nearly identical in construction to the stock R33 turbo except for being steel-wheeled and a damn sight bigger. Yes, it's internally gated. Have no idea how much power it's putting out, I'm just taking it easy at the moment until I get bigger injectors etc, then I'll do a power run. It's safely making more power than stock though The bum dyno tells me that, assuming ~300hp at the engine before, conservatively it'd have to be making 350+ at the moment, on less boost than previously. Don't really know for sure, but I'll let you know once it's been dyno'd.
  19. The only mods I have on my engine are 3" exhaust, pod, wastegate bleed, T3/4 turbo and PowerFC, currently still running the base map. I have a FMIC 'almost' bolted up, but for now the stocker is still in place. Even with the crappy stock intercooler in place, on 10psi pretty much everything is maxed out. The injectors are on 100.0%, the AFM is reading 5.1V (it's only meant to go to 5V I believe), and this is at almost 1000rpm short of the rev limit. So I'm up for bigger injectors and fuel pump/s (might as well do it properly the first time around), another AFM, and I'm wondering about the longevity of the stock bottom end (seems OK but has done an indicated 170,000km, probably more). Anyway, next stage is getting the bigger squirters etc, then bolting up an RB30 block. I have a VL turbo bottom end sitting in the workshop with 5 good forgies and one scored bore... so for a minimal outlay (one matching forgie, some machine work and fresh rings and bearings to be safe) I'll have an RB30DET. Sweet. Anyway, enough from me, just thought it might be of interest
  20. I'm in mate. I even have spare wheels/tyres to skid on the, er, pan, woohoo By the way, I stop working in out in the boonies in a couple of weeks so I should be available for more club-related stuff too. Starting my own business
  21. Yup got mine yesterday, just finished fitting it today. It's a damn sight better than the factory ones... to get the wire frame out of the handbrake boot, I just tore the material... Thanks Jayson and co, you guys rock
  22. Changing the actuator is a piece of piss... unless you have to modify it. Even then it's not too bad, just annoying
  23. Nah it was nothing like that, it was said as a light-hearted dig, he wasn't serious. We were picking on them for being bogans most of the day, they were calling us ricers. It was all just a bit of fun. But yeah, I thought of heaps of things about 5 seconds after he walked away... DAMN!!!
  24. Only two of us ended up going - myself (duh) and blakey. Mud also made an appearance at Harry's, so he's excused too. So the whole time there were two cars flying the SAU flag amid a sea of Commodores. One of the guys wearing an LS1 shirt came over and said to Chaos (who was in my passenger seat) 'most of the Commodores have spare seats, so if you want a ride in a V8 instead of a ricer for a change, just ask em'. The cheeky bastard, lol I did get one good comment going up the mountain though, from a guy in an SS - 'Geez mate, I just couldn't keep up with you back there!'. Chaos can no doubt bear witness to how 'hard' I was trying... looks like 250+kW just isn't enough to help nearly two tonnes of metal up the hill and around the corners But seriously the Commies did pretty well considering that most looked nearly stock, and there were some very nice examples. The only pics I have are of someone who went for a steep downhill excursion - and I won't be posting those unless I get the owner's OK. Blakey's passengers got a few good shots of the rest of the day I think, maybe wait until he gets on here and see what shows up. Either that, or look on the LS1 forums. All in all it was quite a good day, the Leukemia Foundation reps no doubt raised more than a few dollars in the process, and there was a bit of friendly ribbing between us and the Holden guys to keep things interesting... and, as you can probably tell, I'm still in the mood
