  1. Another vote for MR-GTR. I'll eventually be getting a GTR, and it'll be coming in via Steve.
  2. Agreed - it's not worth it. One thing I do occasionally is to blip the throttle while the clutch is on the floor. Keeps the revs up without the sudden shock through the driveline. I've always referred to flat shifting as holding your foot flat to the boards (hence the term 'flat') and changing gears as normal. The other method you refer to I've always called 'clutchless shifting'. This may or may not be the correct terminology but it's the terminology I've always used. I would NOT bother with clutchless shifting either, unless you have a constant mesh/sequential gearbox in your car, or you're on a bike. If your car is primarily a road car, treat it as such... just drive it like a much faster version of how you drive on the streets.
  3. I'd be fairly keen on regular-ish runs out at the drags. My only problem is that normally I'm in Toowoomba during the week so it's a bit of a hike. You guys need to get a drop pipe made up, mine was 3" from the turbo and, well, a 3" pipe until it stopped under the passenger seat. Loud is good
  4. lol agreed, Toowoomba's not quite as far away but it's a bit of a pain to travel 1.5-2hrs each way for a quick meetup every week or two...
  5. I'll be up for skidpan/LVMA or whatever, but I'm not too keen on the dirt track idea. Too much of a pain in the ar$e. If only my Commodore was still running... ah the joys of having a terrible paint job... Not bad at all - sounds like a bit of a unit. I hope she doesn't mind being level-pegged down the quarter and beaten in top end by a bone stock sub 1-litre 4 cylinder
  6. While we're giving free plugs I'll mention a friend of mine too. He's also runnnig his own mobile installations business, "Sound Off Mobile Installations", been going for about a year or two I believe. The guy is a God with anything electrical, and does stereos, alarms, custom stuff, you name it. His name is Chris Rogers - he does have a website with some basic info on it, but I can't remember what it is!! Have a look at the Sherpa on the main page, lol that thing was fun He has done all the work on my '33 and has also done plenty of my friends' cars too, and they've all been stoked with the work.   7. All other things being equal, more cubes equals more power, and usually more torque too. This is a very good thing in a street car, and also doesn't hurt full-on race cars either
  8. 144mph, really?? That's pretty impressive, a RWD car with that kind of terminal speed should be good for mid-low nines. Good luck to the guys. On another note, did anyone see the LJ (or LC?) torana with the twin turbo 427 Chev? Not a Skyline I know, but I liked it a lot Ran 7.8 something @ 177mph, and I notice it had number plates! Orright, imagine rocking up beside someone at the lights with that thing ... traction issues aside

You'd be surprised how many of the big brand alarms have only one output for immobilisers, and how many 'professional' installers will use only one of many outputs (and 'normally on' relays...) to simplify wiring and/or save a few bucks. In both cases, you just daisy-chain relays to immobilise several points. If you back far enough, the majority of systems will have a single point bypass. Turbo timers are quite a useful little gadget, but as Bozz says, they are a security bypass when installed that way, so make sure it's done properly. Making any potential risk less obvious is the trick, and many installers won't go to much trouble. Have you thought about how loud your relays are? If yours are loud, and a thief is in your car with the relays ticking away for the light flashing etc, all he has to do is follow the noise and he's in. For this reason, the ONLY person who does electrical work on my car is a friend of mine who I trust.
  11. Yep, actually there are two. One is 40RCD, which was a 2.5 litre single turbo, and I can't remember the plates on the other car, but it was/is 3.0 litre and twin turbo. The twin turbo one made more power on less boost but I believe it's yet to better 40RCD's time. 40RCD was owned by a guy named Dave Chapman. At the time the car ran a best of 10.69@126mph iirc. I believe the box was a rebuilt Trimatic, same as they use in the 9 sec VL Turbos. It did NOT have a 3 litre bottom end and twin turbos, it was a rebuilt/balanced RB25DET bottom end with forgies, still had RB25 head etc too. The car was sold and now has TRY09 plates. I think it's run something like a 10.04 ???
  12. I believe he doesn't use the mobile for business anymore. Probably too many knob jockeys ringing at inappropriate times... I used to get that a bit, when I was on call for work people would ring up with completely non-work related questions at 2am. Idiots.

  14. If you mean that you want to be able to arm the alarm while the car is still idling down, then yes you can. You just need two extra relays: one to cut the ignition feed to the alarm (so it doesn't know the car is running) and another to stop the immobilisers cutting in. For obvious reasons, these should be REALLY well hidden, just like your TT...
  15. Agreed - forgot to mention this one in my first post. Unless you absolutely can't bear to part with your auto and/or non-turbo Skyline, just sell it an buy a manual turbo one. Heaps easier in the long run.
  16. can an automatic turbo r33 be converted into a manual? Yes it can. You need the obvious stuff (gearbox, clutch, pedals), but also need to short the nuetral cutout switch (so it'll start, auto won't start unless it's in N or P) and a manual ECU would be good too but you can get away with the auto one. how much would this cost? Dunno. Anyone? did the 4 door r33 gts come in turbo? Yes it did. It was still called the GTS25t. how much does compliancing cost? Umm... anyone? I think it's currently a few grand but it's all due to change shortly anyway. what what goes on in compliance? what exactly do they replace etc. Side intrusion bars, seatbelts (ADR approved), tyres, tyre placard, and plenty of other things I haven't listed. how much does it cost to put on a turbo on a non turbo gts? I'll leave this to the guys who've done it. There are a few on this forum.

Hoping for somewhere in the 11s, because I'm too much of a wuss to launch it hard I'll be on the red/white/black CBR929RR... unless I decide to take the 'line for one last run down the strip before it's sold
  19. In general a shorter stroke means more revs, hence the reason things like CBR250s can rev to nearly 20,000rpm

It might not be the best car around but damn that thing has given us some laughs How many other cars can you come into a corner marked at a recommended 70kmh at 50 and have a japanese exchange student and both front tyres screaming in protest? "No, no dorifto.. aaaaaaahh!!!" ... hehehe ah that was fun. Pity we didn't get to take her for a proper drive.
