... or the look when a supercharged V6 Calais gets whipped by an auto 4cyl Camry

Gary We'll see how we go mate, but if I take the bike you can drive the car up We'll need to get the clutch organised though, it's really giving me the shìts. Can't even chirp second gear anymore, but you already knew that... on second thoughts, if you're going to be driving it, maybe I should leave the dead clutch in it Seriously though, you know you're more than welcome to drive it Shell Yep it'll feel just like yours... but with less headroom! Damn sunroof takes a good inch out of it. Stereo is still hooked up though, so at least you can say you've had a 15 incher  Oops did I just say that? hehe
-
Hmmm... why do I get the feeling this is aimed at someone?? Tell me you're not putting a Veilside kit on this one boxhead... please...
-
So? IMHO it's only rice if you make it out to be something it's not - and I don't see a GTR badge or over-the-top body kit, or even a turbo badge Good work, I like it. But it does need some wheels now

To be honest I can't see your spark plugs causing a problem, unless they're leaking current. I don't remember what size my plug are, but they're platinum plugs (not cheap but last for ages) and I'm pretty sure they're a heat range 7. From what you've said, it sounds like if you have the car running and then turn it off, it'll start within say 10 mins of that but not the next day? If it'll start up easily after it's already been running, this rules out pretty much any mechanical interference (clutch, gearbox, engine), leaving only current or an electronic component. Sounds like you have either a current leak somewhere, and/or your starter motor is a bit iffy. A dodgy solenoid can draw significantly more current than a good one, hence the need to run two batteries (even if the 'line battery is bloody tiny ) I'd be taking it to an auto electrician, at least for a bit of advice.

Not necessarily - I use 5th gear at 60km/h if I'm holding speed and/or the road is going downhill. The motor isn't labouring at all, in fact it cruises along quite nicely. It's actually pretty surprising how little throttle is needed to hold it at 60 in top gear, unless of course the road rises, in which case you use 4th (or 3rd if it's a hill rather than a rise). Personally, I've found as a general rule of thumb, if I can go another gear higher and not use any more throttle (or even less sometimes, as it doesn't need as many revs) then it'll use less fuel. You can sort of just tell when the engine is happy at a particular rev - do what the car feels like it likes. That's just the way I drive though, it won't work for everyone. Mine gets given the herbs fairly regularly, and it's very unusual for it not to get at least 450-500km out of a tank, with the majority of that being ligth city driving (driving in the city but not much traffic). Most I've ever got from 65L is around 950km... all highway driving, and it was on the Xmas/NY holiday, on the way to the North Coast, up one of the most ridiculously over-policed highways in the state (Bruce H'way).

Need more info mate. Does the engine wind over REALLY slowly? Do the lights dim nearly to the point of going out? If you start it with the headlights on, does it crank over much slower? If yes to these then it'll be a power problem, whether it be a dead battery or something like an earth leak. It may also be a dead starter, or more likely the solenoid on the starter - starters normally either work or they don't though, unless you have some weird short in it (I've seen it happen). Could also be one or more dead/dying coil packs (on top of the spark plugs), they are a fairly common problem now the cars are getting towards 10 years old. Another unlikely cause could be a clutch that doesn't disengage - does it start more easily if it's out of gear, rather than in gear with the clutch in? If it's a spark plug problem, the engine should turn over nice and quickly but will be hard to start, and will also run badly. I'm a little unsure of why opening the throttle would help - perhaps the injectors need a clean, or the throttle body/idle air bypass is full of garbage? There's a few things to get you started anyway. Let us know if you find anything else.

See MR-GTR (Steve). When he's not overseas picking up cars and parts, he's on the GC - I'm getting my next car through him in a year or two. Go to www.mr-gtr.com - the site is still being put together but it has his contact details on it.

Mine's still running :burnout:

People that say "I've got not traction"
Revhead replied to slip's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Guys I think many of you are missing the point - in MOST cases, people who crap on about lack of traction just have poor clutch/throttle control. You can have some really crap tyres, but it only takes nice smooth throttle control to keep them from spinning. The only exceptions to this would be people with buckets of torque, crap tyres and a button clutch. But that'd be just stupid. If you're talking lack of *lateral* grip, then that's a similar story - you're loading up the tyres too much and/or going too quick into a corner. This stuff about "you have lack of traction if you can't put 100% of your power down" is utter nonsense. You have lack of throttle control if you're trying to put down more power than your tyres and the road can take. My old Commodore had only 110rwhp, but I could get it to bark up off the throttle in second gear. You can't expect to feed any sort of decent power to the road if you're just burying the foot. Seeing as so many people are using ridiculous examples, so will I Take a top fuel rail - 5500hp and god knows how much torque being put down through two 430mm wide tyres. Obviously this sort of power can't be fed in instantly, they have a seven-stage clutch that gradually feeds the power in, they don't even run under full power until around 2.5 sec into the 4.5 - 5.0 sec run. If it smokes up at half track, it's not because the car is making too much power, it's because they've tried to feed too much power to the track - in other words, they have done something wrong. Sure, I *can* get my bike to break traction, but it's not because it doesn't have any grip, it's because I've either dropped the clutch or fed in too much power. -
Got a helmet?? Just about every girl I know is freezing all the time... the rest of us will be sweating heaps, fan on etc, and all the chicks just sit there with bloody jumpers, long pants, ugg boots (ok maybe not), doonas, you name it, and they're still shivering. Weird.

Yeah that run in Gary's 33 was pretty cool I'd ask slip how his pizzas are going but he'd probably get the wrong idea :bahaha: Aah the bouncing castle - actually you might not have been with us at that stage. We were cruisin Cavill Ave in the Enterprise, and slip starts asking all the fat chicks if he can have a ride on the bouncy castle... can't remember whether any of them heard him or not but we were pissing ourselves laughing Weather is nice up here, getting hot actually, even here in Toowoomba which is normally a good few degrees below Brisbane and the coast.

Did you know the world inline skating (rollerblades) record is 298km/h?? I reckon he'd give pretty much everyone a run for his money, if his humungous balls didn't get in the way  There's a guy in the UK named Jack Frost who owns a turbo Hayabusa. They're not exactly slow in stock form but his puts out around 400hp now... he can wheelie with less than half throttle in top gear at well over 200km/h, and it's geared for 250mph (a little over 400k's)... madness... I know it's not exactly relevant but I thought it was pretty awesome
-
Last year was, shall we say, memorable Going for rides on the bouncing castle, little hairy pizzas, 'oh look, the rev limiter IS up past 8000... and I don't have a speed limiter', 4th gear chirp at 170 with 5 people... Were you with us when we went to pick up Steve and Mark? They were pretty hammered... 'jusht do a u-turn on the briiiidge... we'll hold up the traffic for you'... classic
-
Bah, both of you need to get a bike
-
Damn Shell that avatar doesn't look anything like you!! I'd be keen for a cruise or something, might even bring the bike out for a run... and to avoid the traffic, it was pretty bad last year
-
lol I like your spirit :burnout: To fit a GTR grille on a GTSt you'll need a GTR bonnet too I believe. Just DON'T put GTR badges on it for God's sake!!!! Edit: fixed stupid typo

Mate if you're still stuck let me know. I've got an old one lying around I was using as a firewall until I needed to steal one of the network cards... meaning it was kind of pointless

feeding more air into a stock r33 box
Revhead replied to _turtle_'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Perhaps he's planning a 'Slip-style' air filter relocation?? -
Wondered what happened to them... same mob I got my car from. Never going through a dealer again - next one comes through MR-GTR. I'm pretty happy with mine, but I have noticed a few things... * Tyre placard is for an R32 GTS * Badly matching paint on some panels (you have to look closely) * No dash light dimmer * Can't see any side intrusion bars in the doors??? But I'm no expert so I might have missed em * They told me they were going to put new tyres on the car for me and they did - but they were the worst f***ing tyres I've ever owned!! Downright dangerous in the wet and absolutely useless as a performance tyre (no sidewall rigidity and total lack of grip). They were good for 3rd gear rolling burnouts even when the car was a stocker (before the clutch started to wear). Yes, they were that bad. Upgraded to FM901s and the car feels about 400 times safer. I thought they had an air of dodginess about them but being young and stupid I ignored it and thought I was being paranoid. The lessons we learn. I was just lucky I got off pretty well compared to others...

I went for the 33 because it's newer, more cubes (yes they do make a difference to everyday driving), and as much as you 32 guys bag it for it the extra weight helps it to ride that little bit nicer on the highway - it is a road car after all. If I want to go hard, I'll take the bike - no point in turning the car into a pig to drive RB25s aren't a weak motor - like any motor, including the RB20, if they're tuned badly they'll blow up. Remember 40RCD? That thing was internally standard except for forgies (yes it had some work done like balancing etc but it was all stock) and it absolutely flew. I remember sitting behind it when he was running the AJM 300ZX... a small puff of fuel smoke and then it disappeared at a rapid pace I've never really understood the whole 33 vs 32 thing, they're both ^#%$in awesome cars, and I could name a whole list of both models (and others) I would own in an instant - Cam's 32t for example, Gary's old 33t or just about anything that's ever been parked in Steve's driveway

feeding more air into a stock r33 box
Revhead replied to _turtle_'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I found that my car ran significantly harder with the pod filter installed over the stocker airbox, dispite sucking in underbonnet air. The only things I've done to mine are a 3" turbo-back exhaust, pod filter and 12psi. Swapping back to the standard airbox and resetting the ECU made the car feel flat and lifeless, putting the pod back on and resetting the ECU again brought it back to how it was. -
Same here... but chasing someone down isn't speeding unneccessarily
-
Not sure what you mean about your TT's speedo not working... I assume you mean that your TT acts as a digital speedo as well? If that's the case, you just have to make sure you wire it in BEFORE the speed cut defender, ie closer to the speedo sender, not the ECU. What the hell were you doing going for 3rd gear at 60, you should be using second at that speed!!
-
A speed cut defender basically works as a bypass until you get to a preset speed. For example, at 100km/h it still says you're doing 100, but if you set the max speed to say 175km/h, at 180 it still thinks you're doing 175. And at 250, it still thinks you're going 175... so the ECU won't cut power. I've always been a little skeptical about them though, I'd much prefer a full aftermarket remap of the ECU which incorporates the speed cut removal. I'd feel much more comfortable doing it that way. Colin Your car sounds like a bit of a weapon mate... good work Can you give me any more info on the alarm?? PM me if you like. I *might* be upgrading to a GTR shortly and would be very interested in putting something like that into it. Tze That's the same reason I've left mine alone. Not sure if it has mixture compensation for speed/gear or whatever, and who knows what else. One way to do it would be to put a switch on it - leave it stock until you want to blow past someone (on a private road of course )
