Yeah it's fairly crap. Unfortunately they have the support of the majority, who watch way too much Today Tonight/ACA and honestly believe that hoons are an enormous problem and that anyone who doesn't drive a white Camry (probably at 20 under, in the right lane...) is a hoon, and that they should be taken off the roads without mercy, yada yada yada
If you try to explain that a person who gets their car confiscated for chirping over a white line is completely different to doing donuts in a preschool playground during little lunch, then you're tarred with the same brush and instantly lose all credibility...
The worst bit is that hooning sells! Until there's something else that gets as much of a public response, don't expect hoon stories to go away. You can always tell when there's a lull in the real news, out come the old faithfuls - hoons, how pensioners are poor, downtrodden and forgotten by society despite their years of loyal service, teenagers doing things that never would have happened back in the day, how to save money at the shops... picking up a pattern?
