  1. To avoid confusion I think we should probably get more specific. I believe the turbo we are referring to is 707160-5. Correct me if I am wrong, but the specs are: According to Garrett and GCG the 707160-5 is called the GT2860 not the GT2560. The 2560 name seems to be incorrect (and confusing ). By way of comparison, the stats for the HKS GT-SS are: And for the HKS GT2530: Again, if I got anything incorrect say so. Does anyone have stats for the R34 N1s? From the figures it would seem to me the GT2860 is extremely similar to the HKS 2530, but there are significant differences when compared to the GT-SS (at least in terms of specifications, if not final outcome). Lucien.
  2. Ok, here's a hypothetical. Lets say I have a R32 GT-R that's stock standard. I want to change the turbos because its cheaper to change them than to rebuild the engine if (when?!) the OEMs let go. I don't want to strengthen the engine or have to beef up the support systems. A bit of a boost in power would be a bonus as would faster spoolup. However I want some turbos that will leave a good amount of head room for power increases down the track (coupled with cams, gears, injectors, possibly even forged internals). What would people recommend? I'd be inclined to think GT-SS but the HKS tax is steep and having talked to one owner they might run out of puff up top post upgrades. 2530s are proven performs, but again there is an HKS tax (although much reduced as they are second hand). Moreover, I vaguely remember discopotato03 saying that the GT28 comp wheel is a decent upgrade over the 25 wheel. So perhaps the 2860 represents a better purchase -- and they are damn cheap compared to the HKSs -- but would they be out of their effeciency range on essentially a stock setup? Interested to hear people's thoughts. Lucien.
  3. Its look better, but its still too soft. The stretched proportions just don't work.
  4. Mate, Expressions of interest are not allowed. Are you actually selling at $400 or will this be like the shocks you had for sale?
  5. Don't presume to know how to best spend my money. I earnt it, and I'll damn well spend it how I please. My GT-R gives me far more enjoyment than most other things so it seems like a good place to spend it. Personally I don't care if its a black hole: my earnings potential of the rest of my life will more than adequately make up for the money I choose to "waste" now. Moreover, $3000 is hardly worth the effort of investing as even with a high rate of return the initial capital is so low. Lucien.

  7. You're running stock injectors too, right?
  8. How old are you, 15? People aren't questioning that you can get 300rwkws: your not the first and you won't be the last. However its a bit hard to give a toss when we know nothing about the background: what happened, why the rebuild, what went in/what work was done, etc. Lucien.
  9. There is no threadhand Jedi style>. Question is, do you take the red or the blue bill?
  10. Rule Number 2: Don't talk about Rule number 1.
  11. You could always get Race Brakes Australia discs (IIRC they sell their own). I think Roy is a big fan of their products. Out of interest, what do you dislike about the DBAs? They only problem I have ever heard of was one of their rotors fracturing on Targa Tom's car, and the DBA guys were very quick to replace and try and find the cause. Lucien.
  12. Unfortunately, no I haven't used them. Rough pricing pulled out of my backside: HKS GT-SS -- About $4k for the kit (to your door), $2k for near new used items (normally no gaskets, etc). (Import. HKS GT2530 -- No longer in production (under the HKS label anyway). Usually a hundred or two cheaper than GT-SS. Import. R34 GT-R N1s -- About 2-3K depending on condition. Local or import. Garret GT2560s/2860s (some confusion over model numbers). - About $2.5k new. Local. Edit: Import = bought new from Nengun/Greenline or used from YahooJP. Local = locally bought (obviously) Hopefully discopotato3 will comment. Would be nice to have a thread with details on all of these common options. Lucien.
  13. John, Isn't that the GTS-t plenums, not the GT-R manifolds? Lucien.
  14. The main choices for GT-Rs (keeping the twin setup) tend to be: HKS GT-SS HKS GT2530 R34 GT-R N1s Garret GT2560s/2860s (some confusion over model numbers). All are steel wheel ball bearing models and should fit with no modifications (other than the necessary gaskets, etc). Lucien.
  15. Oh boo hoo for you. You can send your OS G box my way any time Edit: Redline Lightweight Shockproof. Lucien.
  16. Gearbox oil was changed almost straight off the boat Its running Redline at the moment. Almost no shavings on the plug magnet. My inclination is still that its hydraulic. I'll check out the slave cylinder as you suggested I have a replacement clutch line ready to install anyway, so that will eliminate another possibility. Lucien.
  17. Sorry, I got a phone call part way through the post so I didn't add all the details The selection problem and the clutch noise seem to have arisen at about the same time. As the clutch has gotten louder the selection problem has gotten worse. First gear can be tough to get in, but because the car is usually stationary, its not too bad. Entering second, however, is on the move and is proving more difficult. The problem is particularly evident if I haven't driven the car for awhile. Richard: What about those seal replacement kits for the master cylinder? Worth a look? Edit: few more things. If the car is stationary and I go through the gears (clutch depressed) it feels fine. Likewise if the car is off, I can go through the box without any obvious problems. Lucien.
  18. I don't think so. I think the clutch isn't engaging/disengaging properly. If I pump the clutch the shifts get easier, which to me suggests a seal is leaking. Edit: Whoops.. "shifts" Lucien.
  19. About $5k. Spending another $3k in the next month or so, and then I will be broke Lucien.
  20. Right, my clutch is getting worse. Damn squeeky. Reverse is a bitch to get in to and so is second gear. Are these symptoms indicative of the boost/master cylinder leaking? Cheers, Lucien.
  21. I have a whinge about traders. Personally I am getting really sick of all the traders posting amongst the private for sale ads. For all its failings, one of the better things about the setup at NissanSilvia is that they have a complete seperate forum for traders. Could we possibly have the same thing here (ie. the standard parts for sale forum and a special traders parts forum)? The indivual trader forum sections don't work that well either IMHO. Its kind of irritating having to check six or seven forum sections to see what they are doing. Maybe its just me? Are the traders happy with the amount of traffic to their individual forum sub-sections? Lucien.
  22. The forums are a bit leaky... Lucien.
