r32 parts all have to go
lwells replied to 32gtr2nv's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Do you have air vents, and if so, in what condition? LW. -
Import Approval/de-reg papers
lwells replied to danozgriff's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
jonn: did you have to completely refile, or just send in the dereg papers? LW> -
Weird. Maybe you have some special order factory alarm? LW.

If your key has a code punched on the side of it, go to a locksmith and they can make you a "perfect" copy based on the code (rather than doing a manual copy, which copies wear). AFAIK the only people that need to worry about "chips" in their keys are R34 GT-R owners. LW.

The spotlight holders are naff (or atleast I assume that's what the holes are for). Where did you get these shots from? How does peak torque/power compare to the Evo 8 MR (not just the stocker)? LW.

Import Approval/de-reg papers
lwells replied to danozgriff's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
I think what Geoff is suggesting is that you should lodge your application immediately, even if its somewhat incomplete. Once its lodged they will find it that much more difficult to deny you an import approval due to the new rules as its already "in the system" so to speak. I would follow Geoff's advice, but fully expect to get a call from DOTARS asking where the deregistration papers are. LW. -
Anyone got some pics (so one can compare what the various tint levels look like)..? LW.

Import Thieving
lwells replied to blacky's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Yup, car is on the road LW. -
I do believe someone said PICSORBAN. The pricks with the pics get all the hot (Skyline luvin) chicks Ph34r my mad rapping sk1llz! While they may not be the same as a car, this little puppies have been on quite an adventure (which I won't bother repeating here). To give you an idea, I purchased them in May 2004 1. The stack. Click to view full-sized image! 2. Taken inside, with flash, fast shutter. Click to view full-sized image! 3. Taken outside, with flash, fast shutter. Click to view full-sized image! 4. A closeup. Taken outside, no flash, ~20 second shutter. Click to view full-sized image! The colour is really hard to pick up, particularly since I got home at about 7:30PM, so had fading light. I tried to take a picture of the same wheel in various light conditions to give you an idea of the colour (click for the big pics to get a much better idea)... In low light the wheels look almost black. In sunlight they have a darkish grey with really nice depth to it, and a metallic sparkle. Come this weekend I will get a chance to actually test them on the car proper. Given all the pain to get them here, I hope they look good (or else!) I haven't had a chance to thoroughly inspect each wheel -- I am too buggered and its freakin hot tonight -- but from what I have seen they look to be in excellent condition, with only the most minor of scratches and gutter rash. Oh, and the tires (Bridgestone Potenza S-03s: 265/35Z/R18 Y93) on them look extremely new and -- much to my delight -- have a DOT rating so can be used (legally) on Aussie roads. Schweet. LW.

Import Thieving
lwells replied to blacky's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Amazingly, I managed to get a complete set of 18" Rays Volk TE37s through in the back of someone elses car The buggers even went through Brisbane where they were stuck for over a week, then road freighted (in the car) to Sydney. Better hit lotto up for a ticket tomorrow. NXTIME: That sucks. Kiwi's insurance policy is a joke (unless you explicitly take out additional insurance) Richard: Time to change the username dude. Dunno what they do with all the knobs: perhaps use them as dildos LW. -
When I grow up I want to be that kid LW.

Import Thieving

The problem is proving who stole what and when. Since most cars are brought in on RoRo's, the are never sitting in a sealed environment. How do you prove that the bits and pieces weren't stolen on the Japanese docks, or on the RoRo? Unless you have photographic evidence -- which, given that most ports are sealed areas is rather difficult -- nobody will care about your compliants. LW -
Yes, it works insofar as it does turn the wheels. If that's a positive (it makes manevourability at very low speeds easier) or a negative (you never quite know what the car will do when you start to corner) if up to the driver. The diagnostic mode should tell you exactly what's wrong. LW.

what is the weight of R32 & R33 GTR
lwells replied to Zathris's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Stiffness is good, weight is not. Pulling some figures out of my arse, I would estimate the side intrusion bars are probably 10kg each, if not more since the R32 GT-R has such long doors. So that's a good 20kg by itself (if not more). Add in the additional changes (different clutch and gearbox setup) and its not altogether impossible that they equate to ~50Kg. LW. -
Lalalalalala... The word for today is... Volk. I can't believe they have made it after like 8 months: they even made it through the mighty Brisbane port without being nicked. I will finally get to see them tomorrow: here's hoping they are still in great condition (oh, and the actual wheels I purchased ). cowie165: Hmmm.. that's rather irritating. In fairness the person probably just drove the car in a straight line and didn't even think to check the ATESSA. Oh well. Its not noice when your new toy has some faults but these things are to be expected with older cars that have been sitting exposed for so long thanks to the shipping problems. While they have the rear sub-frame out, get them to check all the bushes since they are cheap parts to replace (but a fscking bitch to get to). Richard: So how was she? Might have to pop in to Grey Imports to have a look if I have time tomorrow. And where are the photos you tight biatches? LW.

That depends. Some laws are enforced regardless of any undue influence: you can't, for instance, kill someone because you were "forced under gunpoint" to do so. This is called "strict liability". Some road related offences are subject to strict liability, but I am not entirely sure which ones are off the top of my head. As for the situation described by the thread poster, technically (if the Police are doing their job) the driver has committed an offence. Of course, the driver could always request a blood test in the hope that the alcohol clears his/her system by the time the blood is taken ... LW.

I imagine that they are required to cover certain accidents by legislation, so they may not have a choice. LW.

Was this tuned by "Dyno Dave" (04XX 155 954)? Lucien.

I should also say that I bought from Geoff (Prestige) and had no problems -- in fact it was a very positive experience. However, you have to realise the public mailings are just teasers so you only get a cut and paste job. Unless there is something particularly special about the car, I would sign up for the full service (either through Geoff or another respected dealer) before purchasing. LW.

The cars that appear on the mailing list are almost all Yahoo JP or Japan Auto Direct cars: when it says the "supplier reports it drives well" its usually the owner/dealer who is flogging it on Yahoo JP. LW.

One thing: make sure you cough up the $30 for slimline white plates -- unless you are getting some custom plate -- as the standard yellow ones look arse. You will need to trim the rear plate at both edges to get it to fit, but its doable (Maybe get your workshop to do it if they have a cutting press dodacky so they are nice clean cuts) Maybe also take some valium: the RTA inevitably raises my blood pressure. LW.
