your car coming into Oz..

Stirlo_GTR: Out of interest, from the day the car landed, how long did it take you to get the car out of the evil clutches of the docks? LW. -
Just saw an ad for Today Tonight... Speed limited car

TT was basically just picking up on the same info that was in this SMH article. LW. -
There is no doubt its an outstanding example: buy it, garage it, count the concourse trophies. However, I personally would not buy that car for $40K. Why? Well, I think I would be afraid to drive it: I wouldn't want to add milage, have it affected by wear and tear, or god forbid, be scratched, keyed, bumped, crashed into, etc. What's the point of a "driver's car" -- which is what a GT-R is all about -- if you can't or won't drive it? Moreover, when it comes to buying cars, a car that is used regularly and well maintained is often a better buy: cars that sit for long periods have a whole other set of problems compared to your average car. Stirlo_GTR: lol -- are you seriously comparing you $15k GT-R to this? LW.

The only "current affairs" program worth watching (and even that's gone down hill lately) is the 7:30 Report. Anyway, regarding T.T., here is sometthing I posted on another forum LW. -

Well, for $40k you would want it to be. Still, most car experts say that a car that is driven with some regularity is a better car than one that sits around for long periods of time. Have a look at those rotors: doesn't strike me its seen much driving lately (let along over the 15 years). LW. -

Well, no damage yes, milage wouldn't matter so much. Nothing is impossible, for a price My R32 GT-R is an 1989, rated 4.0. It has 69,000Km, but with log books. Interior is (apparently) great, engine bay is amazing, so nothing is impossible. Still, doesn't quite compare to this -- http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/index.php?ID=1030 LW. -
Saw a GTR badge on a VL last night.

lwells replied to someonestolecc's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
What do I expect? Well, I expect I would budget appropriately to buy a 4.0 grade (or equivalent) car, if I wanted a nice car (as someonestolecc seems too). LW. -

What the hell... did they spray the drivers footwell or something? Looks a little rough on the inside IMHO. LW. -
..... speak to annoying teen or 20-something with pent up rage trying to get their ricebox imported, etc, etc On a more serious note though: it would be good if they alerted applicants to the fact their application has been recieved, is being processed and give an idea of how long they expect processing to take. I think it would save them from a lot of calls. Oh well. LW.

I assume you rang them to ask, or did they ring to tell you they have recieved it? sewid: yeah, but interesting. I want to make sure the freakin wharfies don't pinch them. I would think they (customs) are setup for processing cars, so parts not actually attached to the car might be easily moved LW. -
Well, its target is the 911 supposedly. So I would imagine it will cost a little less than the 911 The R34 GT-R was about 4.5-5M Yen new (exact figure is in a thread -- search, the details were posted by FunkyMonkey). LW.

Interesting: how did you swing that gig? LW.

[Mod edit - this thread was split from another one. You can read SteveL's original post at http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1015258&postcount=103 :thumbsup:/http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/fo...&postcount=103 :)/http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/fo...&postcount=103 ;)/http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/fo...&postcount=103 ] Just to add to what SteveL said. As per the application form, you will need to include an authorised copy of a form of ID and supplier invoice in addition to the proof of age. Here's a question that occurred to me: So lets say my GT-R gets here, and it needs to go through customs inspection and steam cleaning, etc. How do they (the wharfies initially, and I assume the customs agent later) move the car around? It may well have a flat battery.... ? Do they have facilities for jump starting cars? And another: what is the earliest time you can actually view your car? Can you view it on the same day that it rolls of the boat? Edit: heh. As anyone tried calling DOTARS? "Please note that unnecessary phone calls may delay the processing of your application". LOL. I think they might get the odd phone call from irritated people LW.

Ebay is the same as Yahoo: both have a mixture of private and business sellers. For the record, there is no Ebay proper in Japan. Yahoo JP is the biggest site, particularly for car parts. http://www.bidders.co.jp/ is probably #2, but its car section is fairly weak. MSN and Excite also have a combined auction site (but its worse again). LW.
-
For parts: you looking at agents fee (10-20%), auction fee (3%), shipping, and possibly customs/duties on top of the purchase price. Keep in mind that just like any other auction site, price stay low until about 10 minutes before the auction closes and people start bidding like crazy I wouldn't buy a car from a company of Yahoo Auctions personally: if it was a private sale I wouldn't have quite the same reservations. There are usually a ton of examples of whatever car your after through the standard auctions or car yards, so why take the risk? Parts, on the other hand, I think are less risky, they I would still have a strong preference for buying from private sellers rather than businesses. LW.
-
If you want to buy a car, use Prestige, J-spec, et al. If you want to buy parts, use J-spec or talk to Shan (FunkyMonkey). LW.
-
No. They will only process your import approval once the car is 15 years old to the month. Send the form in early, and its likely they will either send it back or plonk it in a pile that might be forgotten about. Of course they may not do that, but why take the chance? They are legally bound to act according to the laws related to car importation, and I can't see someone putting their job on the line by turning a blind eye and processing the form earlier. Maybe I am just bitter Has anyone who submitted for approval in September recieved any word yet ? LW.
-
Your agent can bid on your behalf.. LW.

Well, I still haven't been able to find a broken set to send to SpeedHut. However, FunkyMonkey (Shan) thinks he has a source for dial faces.. LW.
