i was about to buy a nismo short shifter for my r33 GTST but heard they can cause long term problems with the gearbox. Grinding etc. Is this true? My brother has an 07 WRX with the (factory option however) STI Short Shift. It makes quite a difference in feel.

no heat shield, go for a good drive and then feel your o2 sensor (i think thats what it it anyhow) cabling. i bet its nearly melting... mine was. And i had to get another shield made up...

Tell me this then.... (and yes im no mechanic by a long shot) When i am cruising if i clutch in and coast, then proceed to move the gear between neutral and third, I can sometimes feel/hear contact with the gears (similar to when you dont push to clutch far enough and it grinds) ... Secondly when changing from first to second i get something similar. I can feel contact in my hands, but only a little. Its got me a little concerned. Doesnt seem right to me as i never noticed this before. I havent had the car long and its in top condition. Any ideas??

im no mechanic by a long shot, but wouldnt the cover on an r34 motor be a heat trap? Ive heard its better to remove it.... -
R33 Gts-t S2 Dump/front Pipe Heat Shielding ......
Mattw_83 replied to macca911's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Lads, Just had a custom shield made up. There is some electricals nearby (not sure what they are sorry) with some general heapwrap around the cables, these were getting really really f**king hot and looked to be melting... With the shield they dont get anywhere near as hot. Looks like radiant heat is ok, but direct heat from the turbo was a bit too much... Matt -
ive got a nismo 3 inch cat back. Very quiet. Just added jjr 3 inch split dump/front pipe and high flow cat. Still very quiet.
-
Lads, Had a split dump front pipe installed the other with a good response from it. However ive noticed the heat shield is missing. After questioning the guys who installed it they said it wont go back on. After various replies ive read on the issue apparently this isnt true. Long story short i went back to get it, apparently they cant find it..... bunch of clowns... Question is what are my options for replacement? ive noticed there are some eletrics fairly close etc which are getting quite hot. Am i forced to search the earth for a replacement or is there something decent i could get aftermarket? Im a bit concerned now to be honest and want to sort it out ASAP. Any ideas? Cheers, Matt

They do make a difference. I had a jjr split dump front pipe installed on my r33 gtst. Revs free, spools up quicker. Better top end. Its a good cheap mod. Do it.

Mattw_83 replied to macca911's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
JJR Split Front/Dump. It looks now like your photo. I can see the shiny pipe too. Previously i couldnt see any of that it had a big ugly looking shield. Maybe im confused but im pretty sure your photo is how mine stands currently? Ill take a photo shortly and post it. He said something about it not lining up anymore? Haha couldnt get a hold of him ill try again tomorrow. -

good question. i noticed the same not days ago when when i had the split dump front pipe installed. Identical car.. -
Thanks mate! Ive noticed no spiking. I was up early this morning, it was pretty cold and i noticed no spiking. Although ive only got the standard boost guage... i Are these actuators hard to get?

Lads, Due to some advice received on this forum i had a split front/dump pipe installed (already had nismo catback 3" high flow cat etc) and upgraded the panel filter to a K&N High Flow in the standard box. She now has a good quality turbo back exhaust, 34 SMIC. Seems you guys were correct im really surprised with the response the car has with such a relatively basic mod. Car seems really alive and responsive and has a better top end. I was more than impressed to be honest and now im pumped for more... What are my options that will give a good result without spending nearly 2k on an APEXI POWER FC. Are there any? I want to run 10spi safely (currently on factory boost etc). My AFR when initally dynoed ran down toward 10:1. Apparently this is pretty rich therefore safe? i want to keep it this way as reliability is a high priority (its a daily driver). I have apprehension in simply purchasing perhaps a dual stage boost controller and winding it up a bit. Ive been reading the forum as much as i can, and i hear this may cause flat spots due to fueling issues and spiking etc, and is a dodgy way of doing things?? I guess if ultimately the PowerFC is the only way to go ill do it (but spending the cash is hard to hide from the missus.... shes not a fan). Is there anything middle ground. Im not after 300 KW ATW. 200 will do.... Any advise is appreciated, so far its been dead on the money and much appreciated. Matt

So how the f**k did my completely stock r33 gtst s2 dyno 157kw atw. Took it to another dyno and it produced 155. i thought r34 produced more than 33's??

Hi, So far ive avoided FMIC (installed r34 SMIC) due to having to hack the bumper and id rather keep the car looking facory. Was at JJR yesterday and bought a split front/dump pipe. he said some of the coolingpro intercooler (whatever the are) bolt straight up? Are there any FMIC that could be recommended for a r33 gts25t which bolt up without dramas/hacking? Id rather a black one too is it possible. Sounds bizarre i know i just rather the stealth approach to be honest. big shiny intercoolers bulging out the front look cool but just not my thing. I want efficiency without the attention.. Any recommendations?

rich is safe for the engine though yeah? just chews more petrol?

Bought a 3inch split dump/front pipe today. JJR. Im gonna give installing it a go today. wish me luck. im pretty handy with the tools generally and watched them do the catback install. it was a piece of piss. Any suggestions? Ive got no hoist with this cause a major difficulty?

Excellent. Front pipe it is. I can get my hands on a new Turbosmart Dual Boost Controller real cheap. Do the job for now? Coilpacks seem ok, no symptoms like anything ive read so far. last noob ignorant questions my apologies... (the input so far has been excellent cheers) These POD filters ive seen, as opposed to the standard box with say an new HKS Filter thing, whats best? (im aware its apparently defectable though im not fussed to be honest). Its not going make the idle f**k up or anything like that? My mate had a r32 gtst with BOV (which i wont be upgrading) and pod filter etc nice car buts its idle was all over the place and would stall at traffic lights all the time when coasting to a stop. did my head in... the R33 is used now as a daily driver the r34 SMIC sufficient for 200ATW? I want to avoid FMIC. thanks again

been told if im not highflowing the turbo or running high boost there is no point getting turbo back exhaust. probably lose a fair bit of low end torque? Im no mechanic to be honest... Running 10spi hurt her? Would i notice much of an increase. Exhaust did a little revs better. Looking for around 200 ATW ultimately

Lads. Got a real tidy r33 gts25t series 2. When it was bog stock i had it dynoed. Made 157kw ATW. Ive since installed r34 SMIC, 3 inch Catback Nismo Exhaust (high flow cat included). Reckon its fairly safe to give it another 2psi (with a decent dual stage controller) and a retune? When they initially dynoed it the AFR's at high revs sat between 10 - 10.5? Is this ok? Any advice is appreciated. I love the car, want to get a few more kilowatts without going nuts with front mounts etc etc. Cheers, Matt

Best Place To Get A Head Job On My 33
Mattw_83 replied to WARLORD's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I wouldnt get envy imports to clean my toilet. i know a guy who got majorly ripped off (to the tune of 8 grand) by that bunch of puppets. Bad operators something shocking.. -
Hi, New to forums. Just bought R33 Gtst 1996 Series 2. 61,000km. Completely standard vehicle. Its in extremely good condition (was initially after an r34) Dynoed 158kw ATW on standard boost. Apparently this is pretty good for a stocker??? I hear various things, looking for the best option to get a highly reliable 200KW ATW. I want it to achieve this with lilttle strain on components. Im getting an r34 SMIC intercooler installed on monday. Im not going the front mount as i prefer to standard look and am not after ridiculous output figures. What size/type of exhaust is recommended (for performance gain only), Boost increase - 10psi Safe? Any advice ideas is much appreciated. Cheers, Matt
