mission nearly complete ended up pulling motor out minus gearbox, the 2 top bolts arnt too bad to get to if you have a long 14mm spanner I drained gearbox oil tho but just wondering if its possible to fill it back up via the gearstick hole? (I pulled the gearstick out cause was goin to pull motor out with box attached but didnt end up doing so) putting on all belts and getting radiator back in tonight so i will see if it fires up tonight.....hope it does lol Cheers for everyones help too, I will be a happy man when i hear that sweet soundin engine fire up -

ok sweet do i have to remove the powersteering lines under the motor? just wondering they might get crushed yeah there is a recess around the edge on the backplate thats why i was wondering if there was ment to be an o-ring there I guess I can use a small bead of silastic around that edge Cheers im pullin the engine out tomoz morn cant wait -

Anyone? All I have to do now is take off the gearbox crossmember and unbolt engine mounts n the box n motor can come out....can the box come out still attached? I also found out the is no rubber O-ring or gasket from factory for the HKS/garrett 2530 turbo front cover so the 'whine' noise must only be the bearing in the turbo or a slight hole in the cooler piping, weird cause the spindle hasnt much shaft play -
Hey there peeps Im currently in the process of getting the car ready to do an engine swap. I cant find any info anywhere on doing an engine swap, even the engine manual is very brief Atm ive been following the engine removal process described in the topic "RB525 into r32" but im unsure if i have to take the gearbox out before removing the engine or can the box n engine come out in one piece? I also have to swap the GTR injectors and wiring into the new engine which is goin to be a mission aswell I also have had a problem with a 'whine' kind of noise coming from the turbo before coming on boost I thought it was a leaky gasket but they all looked to have sealed properly as I just took dump + turbo + exhaust manifold off I did clean the turbo when i changed the exhaust studs a year ago so im wondering if there is supposed to be a seal between the front cover and backplate? its a HKS 2530 Any help would be really appreciated as i hope to have the old engine out this weekend and the new one in Rohin

Just getting mixed messages here on this subject....basically after reading all this RB26 cams into RB20 = FAIL unless the car is a drag machine lol I seriously thought it would of worked.... well it does apparently but not very drivable Time and money better spent on Tomei or HKS cams that are proven to actually work But hey, where is the fun in that ay? Im gonna say congrats to the peeps that had a crack at it, experimentation is half the fun

Basically I bought another engine for my car to replace the one in my car thats got a buggered cylinder. It came with a standard turbo on it aswell I pulled the turbine off cause i want to sell it but noticed alot of oil in the compressor n exhaust housings...like dripping, quite a mess actually. Id just like to know is there anyway to test the turbo's oil seals without installing it on an engine? I cleaned it up as best i can pulled compressor housing off to check turbine and its fine, there is shit all shaft play both side to side n back n fourth n spins nice n free so the core is fine If anyone knows how i might be able to test the oil seals to see if they leak that would be awesome Cheers Rohin

yeah it is in open loop when cold so i think my o2 sensor is buggered I will unplug it tomorrow morn before I drive to work n see if it was the same as this morning -

reseting ecu did not fix it I also suspect a dodgy O2 sensor in my car as its leaning the mixtures out when in cold start mode and making it cough and backfire while making next to no power and wont rev when i disconnect o2 sensor it goes alright -

I have same probs as my above post states, Im leaning towards the ecu being in a cold start mode, but that being said it dosnt always go into this mode. so it buggers me as to why it does it lol maby i could ring nistune n see if it could be fixed with a tune Di disconnected the battery yesterday n turned ignition to ON n pumped the brake pedal a few times to try reset the ecu. will see how i go when i drive to work in a few mins -

I have EXACT same issues with cold start. My ecu is nistune rb20det, so im guessing its a kinda choke mode its going into. Sometimes when i start the car its fine and then 10m or so down the road it goes into this mode and if definately makes you put the throttle on more to get the car moving, its actually harder to drive because you dont want to go into positive pressure (boost) but still have to get the car moving while looking at the boost guage trying not to let it get above 0psi My care feels like a slug when in this mode and turns off when temp gets halfway and runs normal again, My bet is its something to do with a Nistune setting. Id love to find out how to fix this problem! can a nistune ecu be reset? -
O2 sensor related, I recently bought an engine to swap into my car sometime soon and it had an O2 sensor in the standard dump pipe and looked better then the one i had in my car atm, so i swapped it over with my old one. Now my car runs like shit. it stutters and coughs and wont go anywhere, i throttle it a bit, coughs, then really light throttle it goes normal again, cant even go past 2000rpm then it coughs and splutters and the turbo sounds really weird. Im going to go for a drive up the street now with the O2 sensor disconnected and see if it changes it, also do i have to reset ecu with a different o2 sensor? (nistune ECU) another thing, When its cold (overnight cold) it goes into a weird choke mode? it makes me put my foot down heaps more than usual and you can hear the turbo spooling up heaps loud, the car only starts moving when the boost pressure starts to go past 0, (then i have to back off the throttle as boost+cold engine = bad) its so hard to explain, the ecu stays in this mode until the engine gets up to temp (ie. halfway on temp guage) and while cruising along in 4th at 50km and its up to temp you can feel the ecu turn this mode off and the car runs sweet again. Anyone else have these weird issues?

Well im putting an rb20 back in cause ive got some good bits on it and putting in an rb25 would be goin backwards. the gtr injectors wouldnt fit n the hks 2530 wouldnt be big enough either lol i was getting 220rwkw before the old motor dropped a cylinder n love the sound of a 20 on boost, its got a different sound to a 25 i reckon. I was also wondering if i should crank the engine over whithout the spark plugs in for 10 or so seconds before i start it for the first time, to get the oil flowing around the engine without any load on the pistons? anyone heard of this? also is it safe to do an engine oil flush? Thanks for the input in advance cant wait to get it crackin again -
Engine Swap, Old for new, RB20DET Done a search couldnt really find a general guide about replacing an engine and the things needed to look out for while doing so. In a few weeks I will be doing an engine swap in my R32 GTST, the motor I have in the car has dropped cylinder no3 and Ive bought a fresh engine to put in it. Basicially just need info on things to do while i have the engine out I know I should do the 100000 km service which includes replacing timing belt in a kit with bearings n pulleys, water pump, spark plugs, crank collar seal and im sure theres more things to look out for but i dont know, so if anyone has any pointers or could tell me where i could get the 100,000km kit that would be awesome
