  1. Hey Nick, A few questions about your throttle body, I'm looking at getting mine done in the not too distant future, Just got to get a problem sorted first. Did you get your factory TB and intake plenium bored out, if so how many mm did you get removed, or was the TB from a different car?
  2. After talking to a mechanic today, he suggested a fuel pressure regulator would be the best thing to do for a quick fix. As checking the rest of the system is pretty much a process of deduction, replacing the parts untill the problrm causing culpret is found. (me thinks it's going to get very expensive)
  3. Ok found the site explaining why, Have alook at www.howstuffworks.com just look up torque converters in the auto section.
  4. It wasn't a R33 GTS25 diff, it was off another Nissan thou. Every thing was the same except the plate on the back of the diff(different sized mounting), we just swaped the plates over and it fitted. I believe the ratio shoud be the same. I red somewhere that when a car is auto, the torque converter somehow doubles the figures. If I could only remember the site, it was quite interesting.
  5. Thanks for the speedy replies guys, My mods are K&N panel filter, extractors, and 2 1/2" exhaust. The fuel filter was changed 12,000km ago, I generaly change it every 15,000 km. I run injector cleaner through the fuel every few tanks, and the ECU was reset 1000km ago. To be honest I'm a service nut. Righto, the AFM sounds like a good place to start, is it something that can be tested a home or will it need to be done by a mechanic? thanks Rach
  6. Hiya, While putting my car on the dyno the other day, I got them to test the air flow ratios, much to my suprise it's running a bit on the lean side of things (running 98 octane fuel with octane booster). I know that running too lean can cause detonation, but thats about where my knowledge of the subject ends, so I was hoping someone could shead some light on the subject for me please. My question is what can I do to get it fueling right. Any one have any ideas where I should start to fix this potential nightmare. your advice would be appreciated, thanks Rachael
  7. As far as I know 8.3L is correct, that pretty much what I can interpret from my japanese owners hand book. Sorry don't know how many litres is held in the pan.
  8. You can sort of flush the system, but not to the extent that the service shops can do, you could proberly get around 80% of the old fluid out with a bit of mucking around. unfortunatly you will end up wasting alot of fresh trans fluid in the process. The whole auto trans system holds 8.3L when completly empty, but if you plan to do any sort of flush you will need more fluid. There are a few different ways you can service the trans at home, it's not that difficuilt to do. 1) Is by simply draining the fluid and topping up with new fluid, this will only remove the old fluid in the pan. 2) Is to drain the old fluid out of the trans, top up with fresh fluid, take the car for a 5 - 10 min drive to get the new fluid circulating the whole system, wait till trans cools so you don't get burnt, then drain the fluid out of the pan again. put bung back in and fill with fresh fluid, this should remove around 80% of the old fluid. 3) This service is about the best you can do at home, and requires abit more work. To do this sort of service you will need to buy an auto service kit, it should include a trans filter, and a new trans pan gasket. You will also need a clean place to work, as you don't want any dust to get into the trans, when you remove the bottom plate of the trans and replace the trans filter. Drain the old trans fluid as above, and refill with fresh fluid, then take the car for a drive to circulate the fluid, wait till trans cools so you don't get burnt, drain fluid again. Remove trans pan, making sure no dust can get into the trans. Change the trans filter. Next remove any trace of the old cork gasket off the pan etc. Clean any sludge off the bottom of the pan with a clean paper towel, clean off any metal filings from the magnets on the bottom of the pan, once clean replace magnets to original position change gasket and put back together, making sure not to over tighten the bolts holding the pan on, or it will leak. Replace pan bung, and fill trans with fresh fluid, check trans fluid levels when warm to make sure they are correct. hope that helps
  9. Opps, yeah I did but a different brand, think it was 108+ octane booster (black bottle). To be honest I don't really know if the octane booster, makes that much difference. I can't really feel any power increase over using BP ultimate. I think each car is a little different in the way it responds, some people swear by it.
  10. I've done more drag racing than track, but it has to be track for me, anybody can drive fast in a straight line, not every body can handle the corners, hehe me love corners:D
  11. 3rd dyno was taken today, running a 4:3.1 ratio LSD diff, using 98 octane petrol and nulon pro strength octane booster. Unfortunatly I have lost a few kw somewhere, but gained another 175Nm of torque at the wheels:D Both dynos run after the conversion were done still using the old auto ECU.
  12. 2nd dyno, was done shortly after the manual conversion (4th gear dyno), still running the auto diff, 96 petrol + Nulon pro strength octane booster (Note; low torque figures at the wheels) 16kw increase at the rear wheels:D
  13. Hi, I'm starting this thread for anyone that is interested in seeing the results before and after auto to manual conversion. I have 3 sets of results taken at different stages over the last year. 1st off is the dyno results as an auto, using 96 octane petrol Mods to the car K & N panel air filter Extractors (6,2,1) 2 1/2" exhaust straight from the extractors (no Cat)
  14. The best idea is to take it to an auto transmission service place, the trans needs to be flushed, otherwise you will only be removing about 60% of the old fluid, alot of fluid is held in the torque converter. Having the trans flushed removes 95% of the old fluid from the system, including tranny cooler. I have serviced an auto once, and in the end it cost me just about as much as what it would have done if I had it done by the professionals, and I couldn't get all that old fluid out.
  15. A guy I know in SDU has had this done, he hasn't lost any power, if anything I think he has gained a few kw, and he has a bit more induction noise. His car is basicaly stock, just with a pod and no cold air intake, he is running mid to high 15's for the 1/4.
  16. If you drop the pressure below 20psi, the tyres don't seem to grip so well. Put your car down the strip, see what it can do and then watch your times drop as you start to do the mods.
  17. I drop the pressure a to 25psi, some people drop it as low as 20psi. I find it does make a difference (better traction), my best times were done with 25psi in the rear tyres.
  18. Hi and welcome, you might have a more luck if you were to put this thread in the car audio section of the forums. I have the same rattle problem in my car, sub rattles the sh*t out of the boot, bumber and parcel shelf. If you a do it yourself sort, you can sound deaden it yourself, you should be able to buy the stuff you need to do the job at a car audio shop, should be able to save yourself a few $$ in the process.
  19. I have 235x45x17 tyres all round and a LSD (4:3.1). I'm think the problem is in the suspension, I need new shocks. Before I changed the diff to the LSD, I was still running my old auto one (non LSD, 3:5.1) with 255x40x17 tyres, it was with this set up that I managed to get my 16 flat I got my 60ft time down to 2.389 which I felt happy about, the way it is now I don't seem to get traction:( Any suggestions would be appreciated:) Thanks Rachael
  20. NA-R33, Do you know if the 30% gain on the VL was just an enlarged T/B or was the intake plenum enlarged as well?
  21. Just reading this intresting thread, I too am looking at ways to get more power out my GTS25 and getting the best bang for my bucks. I found a thread on the SDU forums, that may help answer a few questions. I hope you find it of some use. NA Power Cheers Rach
