  1. the only problem with the battery in the boot is that the boot is almost completley sealed whereas tho bonnet is not. so the bonnet breathes and the hydrogen gas (EXTREMLEY EXPLOSIVE) that is produced when lead acid batteries charge is vented out. but in the boot it can build up and a spark... well you get the picture... in the boot you would be better getting a FULLY SEALED battery which can be quite expensive. even most maintenance free batteries are still vented.
  2. there is no engine oil on the planet that can cause ur motor to run like that. unless u did something wrong. did you even drain the old oil completely includint the 500ml or so that is in the oil filter. if u are going to do an oil change u need to do it properly or there is no point in doing it. i usually change my oil every 5000km and have had no worries. i even put a very heavy 25W-60 in one day to see how the enging would behave. nothing happened but the oil pressure was higher.. it sounds to me like u just topped up the oil that was alreeady in there with new oil. probably massivley overfilled the sump causing windage. where the crankshaft hits the oil and churns it up. if u drained the oil and only put in 2L ur in trouble.. put more in ASAP and check ur dipstick. that is what it is there for.
  3. if you do it yourself you would need to buy a workshop manual to get the head sequence etc from and to buy a gasket for a GTR can cost u up to about $500 for a good quality name brand gasket.. bear in mind that it would be worth taking the head into a shop and getting them to check it is flat and shave it if necessary as it is alloy and can warp quite easily. if you take the whole thing to a shop u would be looking at 2-5k. so if you can do it yourself save some money.. while the head is off you could get a bit of port work done too. if you have to take it in take it 2 some1 who has had experience with skylines or they will think it is a conkadore and completley screw your motor. then u are looking at 10k. hope this has helped you mate. it is shit when something goes wrong with the beloved skyline.
  4. yeh no worries i dont know the colour off by heart. it would pay to find a wiring diagram for your car and havea look. the codes will tell you what colour it is.
  5. with that model of car i would say yes it has ABS. trace the brake lines from the master cylinder and if they lead to a big square box with many lines in and out you have ABS. also just go to a deserted road and jam the brakes on. if the wheels lock up and screech you dont haha.
  6. do you mean the headlight dimmer? from high to low beam? if so there is no wire. it is 2 seperate circuits. the high beam circuit and the low beam circuit. then when you "flash" the lights some cars operate both circuits but i dont think skylines do.
  7. sounds like your timing belt tensioner is screwed mate. probably as a result of being over tightened by the mech. GET IT FIXED ASAP as the RB series engines (aside from RB30) are interference engines i.e. if the timing belt breaks or slips a tooth etc the valves will smash into the pistons causing you a 10k repair bill.. hope this helps. By the way it is really easy to check/ change the timing belt by yourself. took me about 45 mins to change the belt on my R32. i cant stress enough to get this fixed.
  8. if you had heavy steering it is not a problem with a sensor mate as the power steering is not electronically controlled. only the hicas is but it is fed from the same power steering hydraulic pump. i would be checking the power steering fluid level and check if the fan belt is tight etc before checking computer stuff. if the belt is tight (able to push the side in about 10mm,~6mm with gates racing belts) and there is plenty of fluid your pump might have a shot seal etc... i highly doubt it will be a sensor playing up as i said before.
  9. mate you say the dipstick was all A1 meaning the sump oil seemed unaffected. oil floats on water so in ur radiator the oil will be up at the top showing up because there is a lot of water and not much oil. plus it gets churned up by the water pump. chances are there is water in your sump as wel but it will have settled to the bottom when u turned your engine off therefor it is not showing up. i would drain the oil from the sump and see if there is any water in it just as it starts coming out. if there is i would say it is a gasket gone in an area where there is water pressure on one side and oil pressure on the other side hence oil in rad and water in sump. 99% sure the only gasket that can go between oil and water galleries is the head gasket like the other guys say, however i doubt your car is an auto being a GTR and i dont think non auto skylines use an oil cooler in the radiator. hope this helps mate. better get it fixed before you run into trouble.
