Hey guys just Want to sort this out before my engine goes in I read somewhere on here a while ago that when putting ball bearing turbos on a car ie 32GTR that you may need oil restrictors in the feed lines. I've done a heap of searches and can't manage to find it again so Im wonderin does this apply with my application or do Garrett restrict all their direct replacement turbos such as -5's? Cheers in advance.

Ha ha yeah only thing I've picked up from you is what not to do lol! Glad to see you got them home safely how'd the colour look on the door outside?

Well finally got Jacks parts painted yesterday so he can now get it all back together and hopefully leave me alone for a while lol. Anyway he wanted me to put the pic's up for him.

Looks like the moderators cleaned him up. Either that or he had a change of heart and deleted them himself lol.

My R32 Gtr Vspec1 Project Car
trustr32 replied to trustr32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Yeah it certainly did. I spent an hour the night before trying to straighten out all the bent fins and I dont think it came up too bad. I decided to paint it satin black just to draw the eye away from it until I can afford a bit of a 'bling bling' front mount but it'll do for now. Aslo picked up my fuel rail and reg last night. Spent yesterday arvo moving all the bits round to the shed where the car is ready for a 3 day bolt on blitz in the next week or two. Also organized a few things just as a bit of a tidy up really. Cant keep away from the candy cupboard lol. I also decided to paint the RB26 on the timing cover black just to set it off a bit. I started a custom front splitter for it about a year ago and had a heap of step by step photo's which got deleted before I got them up here but so I decided to dig it out today and get a few snaps so you can get the general idea of what I'm thinking. This is the plug I ended up with after about 20 hours cutting out molding and shaping I decided to make it as a lower attachment to the existing lip instead of molding it all into one cause it's gonna be fairly low and I reckon it may take a hit or two so it needs to be easy enough to replace/remove if need be. The finished mould. I think I might end up making one then altering it a bit as I'm not 100% happy with the centre and making a better mould so I can make a few of them. I also need to get the front end back on the car so I can check the angle etc. so it wont be till it's together and running again. -
+1 thanks again man. If your not keen for a bit of DIY then dont own a skyline lol. Cant wait to get these... oh and actually get my car on the road lol.

Well It's been kinda quiet for the last couple of months other than just acruing parts and waiting for some free time to get them bolted up. Things I've gotten include my dumps, my custom low mount manifolds, Garrett 2860-5 turbo's, Trust oil cooler kit, Tomei adjustable cam gears and Injector Dynamics id1000's. Just a few pics of everything. My manifolds on another engine at the fabricators I recieved them but they are currently having the inlet sides machined as they had a slight warp and I only want to put them on once lol. I also have my power steering pump being modified and my stock oil filter housing as well to delete the original coolant lines off the back of it Should pick them up next week along with my 14mm twin entry fuel rail and FPR. While I havent worked much on the car itself I decided to paint a few more bits from the engine bay I did my twin turbo pipe the one off the rear compressor outlet and my intake plenum. I aslo forgot to do my lower timing cover when I did the rest as it was still on the engine so I did that aswell. I should have my manifolds back by the weekend so I might start bolting them and my plenum up to the motor and get that back together over the next couple of weeks so I can finally get the engine back in but I'll update as I get stuff done. -
God damn I'm in Kingston all the time lol. I thought you were living out at Port Arthur. Guess you'd have to be happier living a bit closer to everything now.

The list is fulled up but I want 4 aswell. Can pay as soon as I get your details if your still gonna do a bigger batch.

Na thats no probs at all man if this is going to become a more regularly asked question it's good to have 1 place to find answers wel hopefully anyway lol. So it's only different externally? Like the inner chambers look/feel the same?
-
You mean the boxes are hand written like mine were. Are the Id tags on the turbo's exactly the same or different? Both number sets on my boxes were different and my tags on the turbo's are different too. Still not 100% sure if they're the same turbo's or not.

Spotto a orange/browny/copper colored 33 with plates "skyhi" last night coming out of Salamanca being followed by a blue 33/34 didn't get a good look. Haven't seen skyhi before though.

Hey guys sorry to keep hassling everyone but can anyone shed a bit more light on the situation now with these measurements? Disco? Nizmoid? I'm at the stage where I think they're about as close as you'd get without bring exactly the same but id still like another opinion or two.
-
Turbines look identical and both measure the same at the base 53.03mm they also both have the same numbers "166 A 01 H" Yeah hopefully it wont come to that but I will if i have to I guess.
-
Well I pulled them apart tonight and got to measuring and unless the tolerences are next to none then I think they're the same turbo's. I measured the bottom width of the comp wheels and they were 60.00mm and 60.06mm. The length of the longer fins are exactly the same at 23.35mm but the gap between the tips of the smaller and larger fins were a bit all over the place ranging from 5.83mm-6.11mm but even on the same turbo they varied. The only other thing I measured was where the wheel tapers up to the part that the nut sits on with one being 15.53mm and the other 15.6mm. I mean I dont know much about turbo technology and just how precise or not it is but both "look" the same and both comp housings fit on each other turbo with the wheels still spinning so I cant see that they are different. The only things I did notice is that both wheels have a different set of numbers/markings around the base of the fins with one having "294 A w R" and the other having "294 A C R" and one had what looked like an assembly lube and the other didnt. I aslo stumbled across another thread the other day where someone mentioned the same thing as me about one turbo having 2860 and the other 2560 and someone said that as long as they both have 707160-5 they're the same. Anyway here's a few photo's any idea's would be appreciated. Cheers Brodie.

Na not yet got a set of Verniers on the weekend and I'll pull the front housings off on Wednesday night and measure them and let you know. I Have been too busy lately to get to them and I'm still waiting for my manifolds so haven't been in a rush.

Just spotted a black r33 with a green revolution racegear sticker on the back window doing about 100kmh up Montpelier outside of Zap gym and nearly cleaned up a car that was turning right when he overtook him heading towards sandy bay road. He wa being followed by the white r33 with the blue graphics up the side but he wasn't speeding. If anyone knows this dick tell him to pull his head in cause other than nearly tboning someone he is giving all of us an even worse rep and we don't need that. Luckily the cops were not far behind I just hope they got him. All cool if you want to do that shit just not the smartest place to do it in the middle of town!
