  1. OK wow I thought with the age of many of these cars that someone would have had it done.. very surprising indeed. Genuine Nissan O2 sensors are $500 for a pair ($250 each) + labour 2-3 hours and are ex-Japan only I am told.. looking into whether Bosch has a suitable replacement.
  2. Nobody has had them replaced??
  3. As the topic suggests, anyone had their O2 sensors replaced on ther V35? If so, how much did it cost, both for parts and labour (ie how long did it take)? Were you able to find generic parts eg Bosch, or did you have to use Genuine Nissan? My car is the 250GT 4 door sedan.
  4. Castrol Dexron III ATF - highly recommend.
  5. Let us know what this ends up costing you for the flush and fill with Matic-J (if you don't mind) as I want to get my auto fluids flushed and changed as well.
  6. Nah I have a 250GT. Pretty sure all the 250GTs were 4 speed autos. I agree regarding the transmission fluid, get the recommended. Replacing a whole transmission would not be fun or cheap.
  7. Correct me if I am wrong (could well be) but I thought the Autos came out as 4 speed automatics, not 5 speed? I don't think mine is 5 speed as the tiptronic/manual mode only goes to 4m.. Also regarding the automatic transmission fluid, it may be OK to use standard ATF fluid (such as Dexron III ATF), but Nissan strongly recommend using their Matic J ATF according to the factory log books, use of any other fluid voided AT warranties in Japan. May just be a marketing ploy for them to sell their own branded fluids but not sure if I want to take a risk on it.
  8. I had Nankangs on my old R33 and they were terrible in the wet. One time in the rain I was going down a moderate hill towards a roundabout and the tyres completely let go of the road.. pretty scary stuff. Other times when not so dangerous I was able to have a lot of fun with them. In the dry they were fine, just don't drive them in the wet. I suggest checking out Maxxis tyres. I haven't put them on a Skyline before (am about to put them on in the next couple of weeks as I need new tyres), but I have had them on other cars and for the price, they are exceptional value and last well. Do your homework on tyres, even the big brands - don't just trust that because it is a big name brand that the particular tyre model is good.. do a review search on Google.
  9. OK hooked up a scan tool today and 3 things came up, none of which were the cam sensors which I previously thought it might have been. This makes sense as the cam sensors had been replaced in Japan under TSB. o2 sensor needs replacing ignition timing sensor vacuum regulation sensor or something to do with that, wasn't 100% sure what the error code was. Once I get those 3 things fixed up it should be sweet again. Thanks for the input guys.
  10. It would be great if this got up and running.. though I am now kind of attached to the Japanese stuff.. makes it really feel like an import.. and it has forced me to learn some Japanese
  11. The sqeaking noise appears to be the air-con belt, it is cracked. I am getting this replaced next weekend so hopefully the problem disappears.
  12. Just thought I would let you all know that I think I have found the problem. Got my spark plugs pulled out and checked when getting a service done on the weekend and found oil pooling around two of the plugs. Need to get two new rocker cover seals installed and replace the two spark plugs which were only replaced 16k ago. I highly recommend if you haven't checked yours to have a look.. it is a common problem as per below. http://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v35-...arranty-up.html My engine light turned off almost immediately after cleaning the plugs out and the rough idle is gone.. anyone who has seen a couple of my posts will remember I have had that issue coming on and off for a while now.
  13. Hi guys My V35 has been running fine but occasionally gets a little rough idle/shudder. It has never stalled before but a couple of times I thought it might. Tonight I turned it over and it started up fine, but then the revs dropped suddenly and it stalled - first time it has happened. I started the car again and it made a weird noise for about 1-2 seconds at most, and then it was good as gold again. Drove it home and had no more dramas. No warning lights have shown up, nothing. Anyone got any ideas what it might be? Could it be dodgy fuel? Cheers.
  14. I actually really like it from what I see.
  15. I have the 250GT and I am very happy with it. It's got enough grunt for what I need. That said, I have driven two 300GTs, one was excellent and did have more grunt, however the other one was a steaming piece of poo that compared with the power of a scooter.. so it depends on the car as well..
  16. This is a little off-topic, but I am a little confused by the number of headlights on my V35. There are the normal headlights, which you turn on as per usual with any car, and of course there is the high beams, but there is a third selection which is a knob to the left of the headlight switch (towards the steering wheel), which if you turn it forwards towards the dash, causes another set of lights to come on. It gives extra light and is not as white/bright as with just the normal headlamps on. I don't think they are fog lights, what are they and why are they there considering there is already a standard headlight switch and standard headlamps?
  17. Far out I hope it's not $1k!!! I suspect this is what is wrong with my V35 too as the engine light has been on (now disappeared again on it's own) and there is lots of dark smoke coming out the exhaust when I plant the foot down. I had no idea there were four O2 sensors! Let me know how you go.. and how much it costs!!
  18. Well I drove down to Byron and back on the weekend and on the way home the engine warning light just turned itself off.. So now I am stuffed if I know what's going on. It's driving perfectly and so far I've got 500km out of 3/4 of a tank (nearly all highway driving). No idea.
  19. Just a question, how often is the ATF meant to be replaced/flushed?
  20. Thanks for this info. I guess I just struggle to understand why they would put that under the bonnet and also in the service guide if it wasn't necessary and they run a chain. That would seem strange. I've asked Nissan many things regarding the V35/VQ engine, and frankly they have been pretty useless on every occasion so far. But thanks for clarifying.
  21. Hi guys, I have heard differing stories about this. Some people on here seem to have mentioned that the V35 (specifically the VQ25DD engine for the 250GT) runs with a timing chain instead of a belt, which hence would not need replacing. However, I have checked both in my V35 Skyline owner's manual (with maintenence schedule) and also under the bonnet, and in both places it says to replace the timing belt at 100,000km. Does anyone here know for sure?
  22. Thanks for the replies guys. I had to pull the car out of the shop first thing Saturday as I had a family crisis Friday and needed a car immediately, so we didn't get to the root of the problems. That's really interesting about the 250GT having a timing chain and not a belt... I am sure it has a "replace at 100,000km" factory sticker under the hood? Unless it says just to tighten, but I am sure it said replace... Yeah I definately need the fuel consumption looked at. They reset the engine light and the next day it came straight on again so something is amiss.
  23. I put it in to the shop today and the noise wasn't there, so basically they said to me they probably won't be able to do much until the noise appears again. He seems to think it might be the cam belt.. I hope that is not the case. It's not due for another 16,500 km yet. In any case they said they would inspect all the belts and look around. I'm guessing you may be right about the tensioning, maybe that's what it is. If that's all then it should be an easy fix, but again hard to prove when the noise isn't appearing now anyway. Don't think it is the air-con, when it was making the noise I turned it on and off, and the fan too, and the noise didn't change at all. I am stumped
