Happy to oblige Sammy-QLD. Here is another one for you, on Monday the 'Clarity in Pricing' legislation comes into effect. This was iniated by the ACCC and rubber stamped by our pollies. Like the LCT increase it is causing utter confusion and mayhem among manufacturers/importers in australia. By Monday, try and find a price ANY price on a manufacturer website in Oz, they are pulling them all in fear of reprisal from the ACCC. This means Joe Bloggs can't even look up the price of a Tiida until manufacturers decide how they will display car pricing (remember statutory charges differ from state to state). Furthermore once we have drive-away, the statutory charges are HIDDEN. So in conclusion we have prices pulled from websites and no breakdown as to which charges come from the dealer and how much stampduty and rego is going to the govt...and they call this CLARITY IN PRICING. All ideology no pragmatism, believe me like the LCT rate increase from 25% to 33% this will just add more confusion to an already fragile industry....

Hi all, regarding pricing on GT-R here is a break down of the taxes payable... GTR std; rrp $155,800, GST component $12,094.68, LCT component $22,758.46. Total tax = $34,853.14, base price of GT-R std = $120,946.85 GTR Premium; rrp $159,800, GST component $12,374.41, LCT component $23,681.54. Total tax = $36,055.95, base price of GT-R Premium = $123,744.06 The GST component I can accept, but the LCT is an envy tax, pure and simple. THEN you get jammed with stamp duty. To provide an example $155,800 GTR Std dealer delivery (lets say) = $5,000 stamp duty @ 5%= $8,040 registration = $620 In total between federal and state government taxes a GT-R buyer will donate roughly $42,893 to Mr Rudd and (in Victoria) Mr Brumby. Bare this one in mind, without LCT a GTR Std would RRP for $133,042 which is more reasonable. Just my 2 bits, If our government was serious about getting us out of recession, they should these LCT taxes & more people would buy cars, this would kick start the economy. Sure they miss out X amount of revenue in one area but if people get spending again, the revenue will return in the form of other taxes. Increase in taxes like the LCT are regressive and are dis-incentive for people to spend. It's basic economics..but then again many of our pollies are pretty basic in the brain dept too.

dazmo, from the reviews I've seen on the Spec V it seems to have quite a different personality to the regular GT-R, but I guess where the difference would be is over sustained laps on a track, I reckon after several laps the SPEC V would come into it's own. Even at GT3 money, it's still probably going to outgun a GT2, so it's still amazing value.

Absolutely!, Porsche's are magnificent cars, but people forget the OPTIONS and Porsche has more than anyone else. On top of that they are all hugely expensive. I have friends in BMW and Merc dealers and they always say a car costs X amount "plus options", no such thing as a Merc, BMW. Audi or Porsche without options. The base price looks pretty enticing until you realize you can easily tick $10,000-$30,000 worth of options. The facelifted 911 GT3 has had an Australian price announced of $279,300 plus OPTIONS plus on road costs! $300,000 on road would be typical I think and that it approaching double the price of the GT-R (esp the 'std' spec). I still think the GT3 is an epic looking, sounding and I'm sure driving, supercar, but even this mighty machine is out of its league against the GT-R in most performance pararmeters.

wow, quicker than both Motor and Wheels who couldn't crack 4.0 secs. Why are they so slow, when EVERY single acceleration test around the world regularly yields 0-60 mp/h times in around 3.3 sec and 0-100 km/h between 3.5-3.7 secs?
-
GT- Ricer..all I can say is WOW!, congratulations, magnificent GT-R Premium and E55 AMG. Love the dark SL65 AMG rims on the Merc, your GT-R defines the word tough!

I had a quick squiz at the article the other day. I guess on a tighter track the GT2 will stay ahead ahead of the GT-R, however it seems on a longer flowing track (like the Nurburgring, i'm sure there are others) the GT-R has what it takes to overcome the GT2. Interesting to note the very slow acceleration times for the GT-R compared to EVERY overseas test!. Sub 4sec 0-100 km/h are common place as are mid to high 11 sec 1/4's. 4.09 0-100km/h and 12 sec quarter are roughly 0.5 secs slower than nearly every test I've seen. that half a second would have put it in front of the GT2 but never mind... As it stands they are a close match...but only in absolutely perfect track and weather conditions. As was seen in the Wheels test earlier this year, in windy and dusty conditions, the GT2 didn't stand a chance against the GT-R. All that said i LOVE the GT2. GT-R and GT2 definately make it into the Max ST-R dream garage!. The conclusion I come to is that on some tracks the GT2 will win, on others the GT-R will win...it's been mentioned before but the fact that the heavy 'comfort' spec GT-R can clash on near equal terms to Porsche's ultimate stripped down motorsport track weapon, says a HUGE deal for the GT-R's abilities. As someone mentioned the REAL Porsche competitor, the 911 Turbo, is truly outclassed by the GT-R which incidentally is still a good $210,000 cheaper than that car!. ..yet is the GT-R really inferior to Porsche in terms of quality and engineering as some have suggested COULD be the case? I reckon there would be little in..certainly not $330,00 worth of difference when compared to the GT2. I can only speak as some one who has physically examined the GT-R up close and the fit finish, quality is absolutely outstanding.

Well ask yourself what the Nissan R35 GT-R is, it's a supercar, and of the R35's natural supercar competitors is it the best daily driver? Lets see the competition... - Porsche 911 GT2, Turbo, GT3 - Ferrari F430, F430 Scuderia - Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, Superleggera, Murcielago LP640-4 - Lotus Exige - Elfin MS8 Streamliner/Clubman - Corvette Z06/ZR1 (available as grey import) - Ford GT40 (available as grey import) - Mercedes SL 65 AMG Black Series Amongst it's supercar competitors the GT-R comes first as a daily driver, daylight comes second, moonlight comes third and then we can begin to talk. For it's intended purpose it's a bloody revelation! and I'd imagine out of the list above the only car you'd really want to take for a long drive, and even take your kids and even your Golf clubs in the boot. You won't be deafened or have to put up with a stripped out carbon fibre interior with no radio. If anything it's much more understated than its competitors and wears a Nissan badge..if you needed to stroke your ego (as you suggest) you would buy a car with a Nissan badge in the first place! I agree the 370Z will be a better daily driver (although with two seats and much smaller boot, actually less practical than a GT-R!)..having seen the 370Z in the metal, outdoors (at Nissan HQ a few weeks back) it's a stunner..and from all the road and track video reviews I've seen, this car could prove to be a bigger thorn in the side to Porsche than th GT-R. Boxster and Cayman buyers will be much more price senstive and in tough economic times and a car that offers 90% or so in terms of looks, performance, spec and dynamics may prove to good to pass up esp when you are looking at half the price and less. At the moment I think Nissan have what is probably the two most profilic sports/supercars on sale in our market.

Every negative I have read about the GT-R has been fraught with contradiction. The general theme seems to be..it's abit too dull..followed by its too good, too fast! Top Gear Aust magazine this month tested it aginst the Cayman S and BMW M3..and they too bagged the GT-R..once again they say it's dull..but it's too fast!..weird. Both reviews you can tell from the onset that the journo's are looking to 'shock' readers. Whilst Paul Gover probably makes some valid points others would say they he is nit picking, and he really lays it on thick in order to get a reaction..or in his case, an over reaction. So he prefers to be scared witless by the more 'hairy' dynamics of a 911 Turbo or Merc C63 AMG..and accuses the GT-R of lacking soul..but then he says it's too much of a good thing...what a load of bollocks! I say judge the car for what it is, Pagani Zonda R performance, Porsche 911 Turbo levels of engineering, Ferrari F430 levels of look at me factor and all for up to $20K less than an M3 or a Boxster with a few options....oh it it won't kill you becuase it's probably the most forgiving supercar in history! Basically they are bagging it becuase it is too good! bzzzt FAIL! As for Paul Gover, well let me put this way. On his motoring segment on Melbourne radio 3AW about 2 years back, a caller asks for his advice. He has $90K to spend..but doesn't want another BMW 5 series or Merc E-Class, he asks what about the Alfa Brera?. Gover's reply, "it's a beautiful car but you'll take a bath on re-sale..so my advice is that you buy a top of the range Saab 9-3 or 9-5" I nearly fell off my chair! Based on resale value he advises this guy drops $90K on a Saab!! Nothing against the Saab, lovely cars..but re-sale is in all probability WORSE than an Alfa.....this is from motoring expert Paul Gover...

wouldn't a grey import Jap spec be an 08MY 'series 1' and as such inferior to the 09MY 'series 2' officially on sale in Oz? A best Motring video was posted here a couple of months back showing the clear speed and control advantage the 09MY has over the 08MY on the race track, this includes tweaks to ECU transmission and launch program.

3 major tarmac rally victories in less than 12 months! wow! Didn't the GT-R set an unofficial production car lap record at Bathurst couple of months back in Wheels? A nurbugring time of 7.26.7min a few days back...yet there are still haters and non-believers. Some of those US web car shows esp, can't believe Godzilla can defeat their Vettes and Vipers. How many race victories and lap records does the GT-R need to perform to gain respect!!!!
-
What's the go with the 7.26.7 lap time on the weekend? Why is this not mentioned by Nissan press or any other motoring website? Was this not an official Nissan attempt? This time basically puts it in line with the Corvette ZR-1..and this is before we talk about spec V...
-
When CAR UK, tested the very first GT-R to arrive in Britain (a white GT-R grey import) Porsche supplied a Turbo with PCCB, and the GT-R went 1.1 seconds faster after just one lap. A set of Rays alloy wheels available on V-Spec is hardly a big deal...although haters will use this aganst GT-R. In case you haven't watched it..the CAR UK video... Part 1 Part 2

Hot off The press! Nissan have issued a press release that yesterday a JDM GT-R 09MY (Series 2) with Ray's alloy wheels(as per V-Spec) and Dunlop tyres has set a Nurbugring lap record of 7min 27.56 secs. Apparently the track was quite dusty (and sandy!) and Mizuno is contemplating a second attempt for tommorow. There is no doubt that this is an astounding time...but I thought the Corvette ZR-1 did a 7.26min, so I'm not sure how this is a lap record. If they shave another 2 secs off that, that would be something!
-
Well here we are a few weeks later and Nissan missed out on the overall World Car of the year 2009 (which it was a finalist for and was won by the VW Golf Mk6)...but it did indeed win the 2009 World PERFORMANCE Car of the year (was announced at NY Motor Show). A great win for Nissan especially against the likes of the mighty Corvette ZR-1 and Porsche 911 Carrera. Now I wait in anticipation at the results of the 2nd assault at the Nuburgring record in the 09MY GT-R and Spev GT-R. A world performance car of the year and a stock production car lap record at the Nurburgring in the same month would be quite an acheivement!!

HA HA HA HA!! MAGNIFICENT WORK. couldn't have said it better myself! that riced GT-R is completely F***D

Most factory GPS are nothing special, some are crap infact ,i'd rather spend $300-400 on a portable unit (which I did) than have to pay $5,000 more for a car becuase it has a factory sat nav. When my cousin bought a BMW 320i in 2007 he had the idea of getting the sat nav..the dealer told him the factory unit was a P.O.S and to go to JB hi Fi and spend $300 and get a better unit!. I also have a feeling the Sat-Nav and speed limiter are linked in the GT-R.

I'll get to see the real thing this Friday at the Australian Grand Prix, should be one of the highlights. i'm going to stir the V8 Super bogans with. "Now that's a real touring car" "too bad those Taxi's couldn't beat the GT-R!" I love giving them shit!

R35 Nissan GT-R has an official on sale date in Australia as of April 1 (no foolin'!!)
-
I think we need a bit of perspective here. First of all, by rights the GT-R should be a hell of a lot more expensive than what Nissan charge for it. From the way it performs, the way it's engineered and built, to the spec list, it's a gigantic anomoly in the supercar market. lets face it you can't even get yourself into a Cayman S for the price ($160,800 PLUS options for PDK) . You couldn't even buy a BMW M3! 'Pound for Pound' Porsche is the most profitable car maker on the globe and one of the most profitable full stop. The cheapest vehicle they produce that even comes close to the GT-R is the GT3, that car is $279,300 PLUS options, next in line is the 911 Turbo manual coupe at $361,100 PLUS options, then of course there is the GT2 at $447,500 PLUS options. Of course Porsche can allow their owners more liberties on the track...becuase the customer pays for it!. Even at the revised April 1 price of $158,500 for the GT-R Premium ($155,800 for the standard), this simply pales in comparison...and my money is that the 09MY will cast aside ANY doubt that the GT-R more than has the measure for the $447,500 GT2 (let alone Turbo and GT3). I think at these prices Nissan are entitled to a bit of protection...after all the alternative will set you back at least an extra $120,000...but in reality an extra $202,000 for a Turbo or $290k odd for a GT2. Don't get wrong..those Posches are fabulous machines, I love them dearly..but once again...perspective...

LSX-38, From a press release issued by Nissan Australia on Feb 24, 2009, customers who have pre-ordered their Nissan GT-R (ie from October last year until now) will pay the original rrp of $148,800 for the std and $152,800 for the Premium. From April 1, 2009, the price increases to $155,800 for the standard and $159,800 for the Premium. the press release states that for any GT-R ordered up until April 1 and can be delivered by June 30, 2009, the original pricing remians, once we hit April 1, the new price will come into effect regardless. From the sounds of it you'll pay the original price, make sure the dealer doesn't take advantage of the siutation.

Anyone know what an Australian spec GT-R will weigh? We all know from overseas literature that the weight is 1,740kg, but the Nissan Australia site doesn't actually state kerb weight in their spec data.
-
Heloius, maybe I missed something, but I thought I read the GT-R set a 2.25min lap time around MT Panorama and the V8 Supercar LAP RECORD is 2.07min, that's only 18 secs difference, to a Bone stock road car. One can only wonder what a Spec V can achieve. I must actually buy this copy (I will today- I only had a quick read at the newsagents!), but what I want to know was this GT-R the 'Series II' 2009MY they tested?..that would be the car with 4 more kW and a number of suspension upgrades, the car that was noticeably quicker then the 'series 1' 2008MY GT-R when tested by Best Motoring last month?...or was it a 'series 1' 2008MY Grey import?

Don't make an assumption that the 911 has a more luxurious or sumptious interior than a GT-R. What many people do not realise is that option list for interior trim fittings for all Porsches goes for at least 10 pages. The GT-R actually has leather trimmed dash as standard and if anything probaby comes with more standard 'cowhide' than a 911!. Whenever you see a 911 with beautiful monocolour leather dash, steering wheel and seats, it's most likely a $5,000 option box has been ticked, then there are painted interior surfaces, leather sunvisors (around $1300 worth!). No, a standard Boxster, Cayman or 911 interior, whilst robust and high quality is fairly austere. The scope for factory customization for a 911 is vast...but remember it comes at a cost. It's quite easy to option up a Boxster or Cayman well past the asking price of the GT-R Premium ($152,800) and if you talk to owners many spend that kind of money too. A 3.6 911 is $219K + options and a Turbo is $360k + Options. I know of at least one GT-R buyer awaiting delivery in April who originally cancelled a new 911 order. He's never bought a Nissan and let me tell you after spending time in 911's and Mercs he was in no way shape or form dsiappointed with the look, feel and presence of the GT-R!!!

...the irony is they go weak at the knees over cheap and nasty tupperware Commodores & Falcodores!......... ........and what's more the GT-R is actually built and engineered to near as to makes no difference Porsche levels. Don't get me wrong, a Boxster S with a couple of options is a lovely car, but doesn't stand out as a superior car to a similarly priced GT-R, the fact that they don't recognize this, show us what red necks they are. .......As for the badge, it's the GT-R badge holds iconic status. another example is Chevrolet Corvette...the Corvette badge overshadows the fact that it's Chev, although the one difference is at least the GT-R has a ripper of an interior made of quality materials unlike the vette which has a daewoo Epica style/quality dash!
