Replace Current Car With...
badhairdave replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Just be careful you aren't going backwards. My S13 when still NA had to have pads that worked from cold as it could not keep temp in the brakes due to low straight line speed and high corner speed. That was with gtr sumitomos and later 34 gtt sumi's I expect you will be in a similar situation as you will be well over braked -

awwww look at the cute little wing! -
The box full of dead ones out the back of otomoto put me off... 900 is laughable when the new price is only 990. Seriously over priced when you see second hand garrett's going for not much more (and sometimes less).

If i wanted something to drive around in i'd want a skyline too if it makes you feel any better. stock injectors will be well and truly out of head room at 300. Not saying you can't make 300 with stockers, just that they are at their limit and i'd be looking at 600ish cc minimum Shit, turbos have gotten cheap...i thought 13-1400 was a good price -

If it makes you feel any better i hadn't even factored in labour.... Just basic stuff really 1 gt28 sized turbo vs 2 on the gtr so (new price) 1400 vs 2800 1 dump pipe vs 2 dump pipes if you want to go there. 4 injectors ball park 500 for side feed nismos vs around 600 for 6 top feeds front camber arms for gtr ontop of coilover price vs all s chassis coilovers having it in the front already $300ish Thats where i gave up but on the support systems, $120 walbro vs $220 044, $200 bolt on sump vs i don't want to know for a gtr weld on, cheapy oil cooler vs something decent (Oil cooler on my 285rwkw sr is worth a grand, i wouldn't even consider something less at this power), radiator upgrades etc etc. I'm sure people could pick holes in that list, it was just a quick off the top of my head one. The balance of the suspension stuff should be the same, brake pad costs should be roughly equivalent etc etc -

I started doing the maths and when it was sitting around 75% extra cost for an equivalent gtr based on your 300 and 230kw figures (before i even looked at support systems) it became clear. bias. -

I'll make sure i strategically place a bin out the front of your house in the next fortnight.... yum, scorch s15. pig ugly, silly quick. A perfect s chassis IMHO -
There's a water gallery in the head/inlet manifold next to runner 1. If the motor was fine before removal of the manifold then my money is on the seal between the 2 being shot. You need to make sure the inlet valves on cylinder 1 are closed and pressurise the cooling system with the spark plug out. The coolant should run back up into the runner, not get into the cylinder. If it goes into the cylinder the head gasket is shot.

Bigger Rotors And Brake Lines
badhairdave replied to Piggaz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
measure the length of your current hard line go down to any proper brake and clutch place and ask for them to make you up a new hard line that's maybe 40mm longer (or whatever it needs to be) then take it home and carefully bend it until it fits. The thread is an m10 1.0 pitch on the sumitomo calipers, it may not be the same on the brembos. Probably best to take one of your lines down as a sample. -

How much do you want to spend? how fast do you want to go? From a cost/speed point of view including purchase, maintenance, consumables and mods an S1 S14 is probably the way to go over even an s13 these days if you want to stay in the sub 20k bracket and be reasonably quick. Reason being that it's cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, cheaper to mod and uses less brake and tyre than a heavier car. It also has better suspension geometry than the s13/r32 so is a better base to start with too. The s15 is really just a facelift that you can't get as much tyre under. Dig out info on Jacky Yicks S15 and see how basic it is as a package, still full interior to run in club sprint at superlap, 1:05's at wakefield on RSR's. Take the professional driver out of the equation and chuck another couple of seconds onto the times, it's still blisteringly quick for what is essentially a stock s15 engine running e85 and some suspension and aero mods. -
R33gts-t Brake Setup Options For Track Use
badhairdave replied to Victory's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
clearance issues with the r33gtst/32gtr ones, having to grind the caliper and the bracket to make things fit up. Some people talk about flex in the brackets affecting feel and causing uneven pad wear -
R33gts-t Brake Setup Options For Track Use
badhairdave replied to Victory's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I got mine from these guys http://www.mscn.com.au/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=431 second one down is the one you want. You'll also need a short hard line or braided line. I got a braided one when i did mine as i thought it would give me a bit of flexibility in positioning but i'd probably get a 150mm bit of hard line if i were to do it again. 1/10th the price and road legal. You could probably get the same from any brake shop. On the brake choices, for a lightish car doing 10 lap dashes the brembos aren't really a big step up over the sumitomos. The tyre is still the limiting factor on how quick you can pull up, the rotor is going to be more prone to heat soak than the larger brembo one but that is easily offset by running a better pad and wont hurt you on short sprints. For a budget car i would be spending money elsewhere, like oil cooler, radiator, some adjustable suspension bits -

Sounds like you have started from scratch again really. Hopefully this one lasts a bit longer. -
This is the best one i have available to me atm. It's nothing special, got it for $250 off a mate who got it off a guy who'd had a pair under the house for 10 years.

I have the same in leather. I found i needed the dish to get the wheel in a better position for me in the r32. It works well in my s13 too. S13 has no power steering so 350 helps for leverage. I'm not particularly comfortable with smaller wheels either for some reason. I swapped the 330 momo out of my other car for a horrible autotechnica as i just didn't like it.

a bit iffy car weight 1000ish Trailer 5-600 if it's a good lightish one fuel, tools, spares etc will put you over.

I had the joy of towing with my work rodeo last outing. Chassis seemed pretty happy but god the 3.5l petrol engine and the auto box behind it were woeful. Gutless and pathetic at picking the right gear/staying out of lock up, even manually selecting gears seemed to be more of a suggestion than actually getting it to do what i wanted. And brakes are shit too... It's thirsty at the best of times but i reckon it went through 70+ litres from campbelltown to wakefield and back, don't have a true figure as i chucked in a spare 20L from a jerry can before leaving to save a stop at a servo on the way home.

Coolant Flow From Turbo To Wastegate?
badhairdave replied to psi's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
just found a pic, the inlet size on the coolant is tiny with the OD of the thread about the same as the ID on my turbo fittings. I would run separate lines. -
Coolant Flow From Turbo To Wastegate?
badhairdave replied to psi's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i would do it as above. There would be bugger all heatsoak through the gate in all but the tightest engine bays, where as there'd be a heap though the core of the turbo. That assumes the water fitting size is the same as i wouldn't want to restrict coolant flow to the turbo core -
my previous best in NA 120ish rwkw form was a 1:09.8 as run in the vids, maybe 260ish (only running 1 bar) and first time at wakefield with turbo 1:07.7's. to be fair, the 1:09 was done on pretty old r888's, the above vids were on new re55's There's more in it

Here are my 2 best laps from the same wakefield day as benm. Best of 1:07.67 and a far from perfect lap And a 1:07.70 from an earlier session.

P Platers To Advance To Open Licence Quicker
badhairdave replied to kawasakirider's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I'd support it, depending on the extent of the training. If it's a week long course, or a series of days over a couple of months, yep, if it's a 1 day defensive driver class forget it. It would also have to be discretionary based on your actual performance because some people just cant drive. I don't see it as a short cut. It's actual car control training, the sort of stuff you aren't going to learn being a mobile chicane on a freeway and exactly what most people on here seem to support. Interesting that the detractors point to the road toll dropping and say this additional training is a bad thing. Have you considered that regardless of licence type these people are still on the road, retards..... -
That was yours? A mate works with the guys son. Heard about it hitting a wall a while back, and heard through the grape vine he'd f**ked it proper this time. Condolences.
