  1. Well ... you'll need about 14 check ups done to cover your costs a normal check up at RAC/Midas .. one of those places cost 90 bucks so if you do 14 you'll have covered most of the 1400 James Nobody would fix anything at K mart! Besides bunkies perhaps ... Plus theyd lose so much from all the cheap buggers like me who get them to do the check and then do stuff elsewhere
  2. Take it to K mart James - Its freee! Wonder how they make money of that .. all you see there are bunkies getting free checks lol
  3. Common for a daily/reliable car is usually a good thing imo Too much fuel - Agree but you do get some pretty good performance out of them Gas Cars - I can't say actually, curious to try one someday though Were you specifically looking at larger cars?
  4. btw .. what about falcodores? id imagine 12k would pick you up a decent one .. Cheap to service etc just fuel i think is a bit higher
  5. thats a shame about the n16s losing the sportiness .. I love the look of em for some reason .. I like most pulsars though, not a fan of N14 though but I like every other pulsar out there
  6. Ahh okay no worries that should be an easy fix then!
  7. I can probably afford the basic tools (axle stands + jack) ... but dont really want to stinge on em might just rent out m'mates place - about 55 bucks for the first hour and the rates go down from there until I can afford some good tools family doesnt have much in the way of tools .. and garage doesnt have much in the way of space plus i live on a hill lol but ill do what i can ive never heard of a brake "Shoe" before ... freakin exams, i wanna get started already hahah
  8. Yea the guys at K mart said the ones I should work on first are the front wheel bearings, brakes, and the brake/clutch fluid flush + replace most of the problems arent major .. I picked up the Haynes manual, will get to work on the car asap after exams are done .. or maybe even before Just need tools and stuff first (NO MORE MONEY) btw they had a cool program .. vehiclevisuals.net.au just checked its 440 a year but it had some really good animations etc
  9. Sent the sexcel into K mart auto service - THEY GIVE FREE VEHICLE INSPECTIONS i now have a list of whats wrong with it .. Rear Brakes require replacing (the shoes) Brake + clutch fluid require replacing Air + fuel filter requite replacing R/H outer CV Joint requires replacing coolant hoses and possible bottom pipe require replacing cat requires replacing - broken inside shocks + sway bar bushes require replacing exhaust manifold leaking - possibly cracked windscreen washers not working + wiper arms require replacing small oil leaks front wheel bearings require replacing Dont think theres anything too bad!
  10. reliability + value for money id probably go the camry or the honda Didnt know you could get the new camrys for 12k though? wow
  11. np mate, good luck with ur detailing! post up some pics of your results when you're done
  12. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/365785-detailing-1101/page__p__5837865__hl__detailing+1101__fromsearch__1#entry5837865 hope that helps you mate, again PM me if you need more information or check out the finalinspection forums - i learnt most of what I know from there and work! also just noticed you live in VIC .. why not drop by the FI Store - damians great and will help you out with what you need .. or maybe you can get him to do the paint correction!
  13. rawz : okk In my opinion scratch X is useless as are most hand polishes in removing swirl marks, unless you have a TON of time, muscle, and infinite amounts of polish. the gains you get for the amount of time you spend is pretty crap. also, scratch X is basically a polish/cutting compound, so i dont think theres any need to go over it with the pure polish. in regards to carnauba/sealant carnauba is harder to work with, and doesnt last as long or give as much protection, but is far more glossy sealants are easier to apply, last ages, and give tons of protection, but arent as glossy, but there are tons of quick detailers etc you can put on top to improve the gloss of them swirl removing doesnt take time to occur unless maybe you're using a "filling" compound which isnt very good, and after awhile the swirls will just come back anyway i dont have any experience with these kinds of products since in my mind they arent very good so i just went straight to real paint correction work. Yes, after polishing you will need to wash the car to remove any dust/residue from the polish before waxing it. you can wax the car straightaway after the polish check out www.finalinspection.com.au - get Seal Strong or regular Seal depending on what you want and your budget glazes are completely diferent to sealants, glazes i think just make your paint more shiney haha if you want to remove swirl marks with a hand polish i recommend P21S hand polish, but it will be far more effective with a machine such as the bosch gex 150 turbo or a festool rotex PM me if you need more info ... however I made a page on detailing .. ill post the link up in a sec
  14. Yeah SSS pulsar is definitely a more sporty option this is probably irrelevant to you but if you're a real cheapo like I am .. there are more pulsars with aircon than there are corollas (in the sub 2000 price range) but 1999 + im sure they all have aircon .. imo from 1999 onwards pulsars are significantly better looking than corollas too also .. would you consider hail damaged cars? I've seen alot of cars with hail damage go for about 60% of what it would be you could probably get a better car mechanically/age wise etc with some hail damage not too sure if my thoughts are right on the hail damaged issue but if i was just looking for a daily i wouldnt mind some hail
  15. I got carmate side skirts/rear bumper ... I went to the spoilershop in perth and they get their parts from them I think? The fitting was good, the skirts were a bit long imo but it looks fine .. only thing is my doors a bit harder to close now? same with boot, and you hear some weird sounds at times when driving ... but barely noticeable and it looks alright I've heard some bad stories with people buying copy/cheap body kits, i reckon best thing to do is to find the guy that orders from carmate etc and have a price set before fixing so they dont charge you for overtime if the kit doesnt fit well, but this might turn out more expensive than if you got the kit yourself and got a friendly panelbeater to fit/paint it for you or something ... unless the fitment needs alot of work then it may cost more! I hope that made sense ... studying has made me slightly delirious these last few days Mine was 1095 for the rear bumper fitted/painted and somewhere in the high 700s for the sideskirts painted/fitted .. which i thought was a bit expensive but insurance paid for the rear bumper so i thought id get the sides done at the same time
  16. Z tune front bumper can be bought from JSAI if their even around still .. ive heard some bad things about them though Carmate probably has a copy too! I was on their site recently and they have a whole new range of copies .. and yeah for the front end you'll need bonnet, front bumper and both guards and bonnet catches etc etc Dori - the overhangs not too bad and it looks good! gt-r guards are so beefed up though
  17. I just drive like a granny .. seems to work even with a 2.5" exhaust and cannon with a crack in the muffler you cant hear me .. cos im that slow maybe WA cops arent as bad yet though?
  18. How come nobodys said Corolla yet, I'm a huge fan of corollas i've driven about 5 now, all different models and loved the feel of all of em .. You hear alot of good things about how reliable they are too
  19. you would say a bubble james! hahaha Yeah VT Commo's are cool imo .. look good too!
  20. Ahh, if i ever find one ill buy it NOW and sell the sexcel asap! 1991 Corollas/holden novas didnt even have aircon .. i was rather shocked at that Hahah Yeah true that James its actually about 190 for the remotes ... but that 45 could be spent elsewhere! plus im not planning to keep the car toooo long
  21. Old skool is kool ... I cant figure how to live without a/c though .. in winter = foggy windows without a/c, in summer = smelly due to armpits hahah that would be more convenient than those damn stick it in every time you drive designs .. $145 from an RAC approved dude who will come to me I think I got an alright deal .. bit strange paying almost 1/4 of my car's value for an immobiliser though and I still need to find a second hand excel haynes manual!
  22. Nah dude ashley is 139 for their cheapest one now mines getting one of those stick it in ones too though
  23. Whoa what the! ok let me call up!
  24. Immobilisers are so expensive ... $145 for the cheapest one I could find
  25. those are aight in blaaack too freaking modern man, i think you should go old school with me next time! For now ... we're gay civics were amazingly modern even in the old days though .. a/c and whatnot when corollas didnt have em
