  1. Thanks for the reply mate , I'm puzzled about why only the only replace shockys in pairs, if that were the case shouldn't all be replaced when one goes ? The replacements are factory and should be an exact match for whats in. I was running around with one absolutely rooted (F) shocky for probably about 4 weeks and one partialy rooted ® for probably much longer and the only handling issue was a slightly harsh ride. There were no hard braking aberations or steering/tracking/ handling issues evident , I will say though that I don't push the car around much. ah-hem I only checked because of a slight noise at the passengers front side over very small very slow speed bumps. I actualy talked with Jason at KYB and there are no fronts available in Aust for an R34GTT though they do make one,- part No NSF9092 gas adjust monotube, it will be available in NZ from georgestock.co.nz from the 29/10/09 (rears are FS9095 fork mount gas adjust monotube). I'm quite happy with the OE damping just wondering if the OE is going to be happy with the Kings ?
  2. Kingsprings lowers (not superlows) came with the car (R34GTT) when I bought it 2 months ago and so far I've replaced a passengers side front last week and yesterday drivers side rear shocky, the front was fraked and the rear just leaking slightly but still working . I have been advised by people who know that stock OE shockys should work fine with these springs as the lowering is only 20-25mm front and rear giving a ride hight of 360 front and 355 rear. The car has 79500klm on it so lowering would not have made old shockys happy in any event. I've replaced the shocks individualy as if they're going to keep blowing because the OE just aren't suitable I'll have to go for a different solution. I'm just wondering if anyone else is running this Kings/OE set up and what thier results are ?
  3. You got it brother ! I recently bought an R34 GT-t with KingSprings lowers already on (not supelows) and have just replaced the front shockys, one blew. As I'm actualy only down 20mm from factory I've got away with OE @ $205.57 a corner (front) and they're working fine, I had front and rear wheel align along with castor and camber checks to be sure but any lower and I'd be looking at about $345 a corner for Koni adjustables and all the other shit like camber bolts etc etc. The one that passenger side that blew can actualy also be put down to 10 years old 80000ks, lovely smooth nearside gutters--and, of course, a spring hight change. So if you are going for snake belly low you'd best plan a shocky change too and you'll find that you'd probably be better going for coilovers and it'd be cheaper -and better. Lots of people go for lowering spend shit load of cash doing it and end up changing to coilys later because they just can't get the ride set just the way they want it any other way--been there--done that.
  4. Speed bumps , steep driveways , front spoilers , exhaust mufflers/systems , side skirts , crap street handling , defect notices , wrong camber rooted tyres , shit steering , blown light globes , electrical malfunctions , skipping CD's , underbody damage , lots of money and the list goes ---------------------on.
  5. On some things absolutely crucial on others not so much , as a general rule everything should be torqued that has an extremely low or high torque setting and common sense could apply to the rest, try to remember how tight the things are when you take them off when you reasemble is a start it's not a good rule of thumb but it's better then nothing. I invested in a torque wrench years ago and replaced it when it got a bit old, I now use the old one for a breaker bar, if you aren't in a mechanical trade where you're doing bolt stuff all the time it's your call and your bucks if you get it wrong. Once you have a torque wrench you'll always need it again.
  6. Well problem solved, asked Gavin at Auto-tech, there is no dimmer and the dash lights only come on with the main lights when you're using them at night, I gotta say if this is the worst problerm I'm gonna be have I'll be very happy. If I can find a wiring diagram I'll hoy it to an auto sparks and see if they can do anything without to much hassle if it's a drama I just aint going there. Thanks for the replys guys
  7. Ordered shocky' for the R34 yesterday about 10.30 from Von Bibra Gold Coast Nissan, here today and in the car now,-fitted by me at a cost of $59.50 for a set of spring compressors cause I didn't have any, can't complain about that--go Von Bibra yay!!! zip. The only anomaly in this transaction was that I actualy had to go in yesterday and pre-pay, it's not the paying obviously it's that direct debit or credit card is not accepted over the phone, they will accept a fax or email with your card No and details however
  8. And I'm in agreement , however , of the only couple I've come across that are actualy for the R34GT-t it turns out that one brand has been rated rather poorly by people who have actualy used them and the other is not actualy specific but generic too, it seems, nearly anything with an R3 prefix, ie R32 R33 R34 is extortionaly priced and with no certainty that it will be 'the goods' so to speak, potentialy $800 out the door and 3 months later no further forward. I have in any event decided to go with stock for the time being as I have been assured that the springs are not so low as to cause a problem and that the passenger shocky that blew was more likely a casualty in spite of rather than because of the springs. I will be doing the fitting myself, and it aint the money--I actualy enjoy working on the car. Oh yup--I swapped the R34 for $7k cash and a demonstrator MY08 TK09 Barina with 2700ks on it he he which I aquired in a moment of madness when petrol looked like hitting 2 bucks/ltr last year..
  9. Is this aimed at me ? if it is add something usefull or piss off, how much I paid for my R34 and what I'm prepared to pay is none of your friken buisness. If it's not aimed at me sorry, pls ignore the previous comment. The fact of the matter is there is only a couple of brands I have found so far that actualy has any struts specific (claimed) to the R34GT-t and thats Pedders (Monroe?), which have received a luke warm reception on here and KONI but KONI specs the same for R33 and I think r32 ad nausiem one size fits all--sure it does --and at around $385.00 a corner + fitting it's simply robbery. KYB specs front (adjustables only)-NSF9092- these are not available in Australia and NZ seems to be out of stock until 28-10-09. No prices as yet. Bilstein has NOTHING for an R34 and you'll be luck to get anything for an R33 either according to Bilstien Melbourne this morning, they will custom at around $400 a corner but need an OE Factory shock to start from.(very reasonable considering it's a custom jobby) I have looked at various coilovers and the spring rates are far higher than I want and an absolutely silly waste in every direction on a general dutys street car. Nissan OE struts are available @ $205.57ea but don't seem to work overly well with the Kingsprings that came with the car however that may be because the springs are very fresh and need to wear in a little. So it's not just about money atall it's about getting the right part (and price) and not just using the "well it fits so it must be right and pay plenty and it must be good" adages.
  10. Thats what I thought as well until I found out that the R33 KYB front struts have different part nos for 08.93-11.94 2wd inc 4ws (NSF9053) and the R33GT-S & GT-R (NSF9058) and further the R34 2wd (GTV2.0 . 2.5GT . 2.5GTT) which have part No NSF9092. The KYB R34 struts are not available through KYB in Australia , this I found out by phoning KYB Melb (03 9730 4999 (ask for Jason) they were however kind enough to point me to a supplier in NZ www.Georgestock.co.nz I have emailed them and requested cost, frieght cost and delivery time. KYB also couldn't explain what the difference would be only that niether of the R33 struts was listed as an alternative should the correct R34 ones not be available. I personaly have no idea, it could be spring seat hight or size variation, brake line clip difference, valving (as the R34 is a bit heavier ?) whatever-- and KYB couldn't tell me. The above part Nos are all for GAS-A-JUST monotube gas. the part No for Super Twin Tube Gas is 341287 this is availabe for the R33 sedan & coupe 2wd inc 4ws 08.93-11.94 only.
  11. Thanks mate could you possibly give me a link where I can get them from at that price, I live on the Gold Coast and that just isn't near what I've been quoted so far localy, I must be contacting the wrong places. Also as a point of interest I've been quoted for a KYB front strut fit up when KYB Technical in Melbourne tell me that they don't have a listing for an R34--how does that work do KYB R33 shockys fit R34s ? ah hem.
  12. Like the title , are front struts for R33/R34 GT-ts interchangeable ?
  13. he-he, I ain't after these replys , thanks guys , bit of a problem as the R34GT-t dosen't have much spec'd specificly for it, Bilstein's and Koni's are a bit exy for me at around $385.00+ a corner , so it looks like KYB will be the go at around $215 a corner however Koni are only only spec'd as far as the R33, does anyone know if the R33 spec will be suitable for the R34. OE are $205.00 but have only one in stock in Melb according to Nissan who should know, so that'll be + 10 days oooooooorr so (maybe) for delivery from the land of the rising currant and they're paid up front so if the dam things don't arrive I'll still be locked in and I can't keep driving with a busted shocky indeffinately. Cheers again for the replys
  14. When I bought my car it already had KingSprings lows, not superlows, according to Kings when I told them the ride hight was 350mm front and rear. These are fitted to stock AFAIK OE origional shockys, the set up seemed somewhat harsh to me but this is my first Skyline so WTF would I know- (previously had REX's and an FC3C Rx7 amongst other rides). The upshot of this set up is that one of the front struts has blown and is leaking , which all things being even isn't greatly surprising 10YO car, 79000ks, hard lowered springs, and sooo smooth roads, in spite of Kings assurances that they are 3kg/cm (and I'll bet the other strut aint far behind it). I should note that one of the castor strut bushes poped last week and Auto-tech have fitted polyeurathane replacements both sides, the one that poped was the opposite side to the gorn strut. I'm thinking that good replacements for the front struts would be Pedders Comfortlines to take a bit of the harshness out of the springs at the front with maybe 10mm shorter bumpstops for a tad more travel. Pedders assure me that the shockys travel will be fine with that set up. Has anyone tried this set up or have any any comments before I burn some more hard earned ?
  15. Thanks for that, when the lights are on I can actualy see the functions (just), they dont appear to backlight atall in normal daytime driving they're hopeless, do you know if they are supposed to, the headlights are zenon something ? and appear stock but who knows , it's in having a bit of a suspension check and underneath bolts tighten at Auto-tech today so I'll ask the guys and see what they know when I pick it up. some days I know eveything, some days I know nothing, if only I could remember which is which.
  16. I can't see jack on the radio or aircon info control panels in the daytime , it's driving me nuts, they both light up so it's not the fuse but they're dimmer than a 2 day old cretin. I can't find a dimmer switch for the dash lights anywhere, its not on the lights control stalk or a separate one in the dash near the trip reset stalk IFiIK where the damn thing is. It's a 98 R34gt-T can anyone help ?
  17. Will the Tiens be any good for an R34GT-t, how old/K's on em and what spring rates, pics ? oh yup am interested
  18. Thanks guys didn't realise how much info was in the Epic fail thread thanks for that , oil pressure sender cleaning will be done. Just a bit more I came across this:- NISMO OIL FILTER FEATURES: 21% LESS PRESSURE LOSS 24% INCREASE IN FILTRATION 10% LESS FLOW RESISTANCE 37% INCREASED LIFE PRICE: $49.95 EACH And just wondered if there's any mileage with these claims or is it just manufacturers rhetoric ? reason I asked I noticed an overall slight drop when I changed the oil and filter last time the filter that was in was a Jap no name which I think may have come in with the car. I'm using 10x40 Nulon quick flow full syn and a Nissan OE filter.
  19. I'm not totaly happy with my oil presure so I'm thinking an upgrade to the oil pump may be the go and after a bit of searching I have come across NITTO,and N1 and I'm thinking there may be more. The NITTO was around $1200/1300 and the Skyline GTR NI $580 appart from the $ how big is the difference between these two. Will the GTR N1 fit the 98 R34 GT-T and will there be a significant improvement over the OE GTT one in there now ? I'm not modding this car, I only push it around a little bit occasionaly, I'm not $1300 bucks worth unhappy with the current pressure and it wont see the track while I've got it. Having said all that summer is coming so soon would be the time to do this if I'm going to so any advice on this would be gratefully received. Oh and while I think about it how hard / many hours in fitting to a 98 R34 GT-t.
  20. Mate , I'm probably being a bit silly there so sorry but yes to you're question , my last but one 00 WRX, had a reasonable amount of mods so was on and of the dyno a fair bit, it had 178kws at all 4 put on a set of lightwieght pulleys just prior to a ECUtech customtune and it read exactly the same as the previous reading with stock ones.
