noise from the intake would more than likley be injector tap or worse an air leak (you would notice sh***y running though), my s1 injectors are quite loud but they have been reco'd, use you screwdriver trick on the injectors and you will see what im talking about, to listen for an air leak, i use a piece of vacum hose stuck in my ear one end and point it around the intake gasket you will be suprised at what you can hear doing this, the noise at the back of the tapper cover could be a sticky lifter maybe, run some nulon lifter free through it next oil change and see how it goes!!

mine done the same, found that all the belts were too tight, loosened em off and all good, ive found when i have replaced the belts and tensioned them up properly they squeel, but if i back them off a touch its all good,

spotted a beaut silver r32 gtr on pacific highway @ beresfield- he/she turned off for raymond terrace over the bridge, if your on here, youve got one of the nicest 32 gtr's ive ever seen

seems the hard way to do it removing the tierod, but if you want to remove tie rod, just hit that part of the hub with a hammer, few sharp blows is all it needs to remove it, ive not used ball joint/tie rod splitters for years, they cause all kinda damage to the internals and rubbers of the joint, my 2 cents

when i was pulling my engine, all i done was, remove hub nut remove 2 bolts holding lower balljoint remove the bolt that goes to sway bar, remove the 6 nuts holding the shaft out she comes with some jiggling,
