Has anyone installed the MotorDyne one yet? I've got mine but the mechanic is telling me its best installed when the engine is stone cold - i hate to be without my car, even for a night. Also, does anyone know if the ECU/Throttle Body instructions on the last page actually apply to the V?

Yes, but make sure your inverter has crank resistance and a built-in power regulator. Thats the main reason you'll see most CarPC's die or fail-over with Blue Screens of Death. It's also the quickest way to kill a HD. Also, cold shutowns aren't the best, i.e. "yanking" the power by turning the car off. You may like to make sure it doesn't auto-boot if your going down the PS3 path. Turning it off, before you switch the car off. I'd invest in a GOOD inverter if i were you, making sure the power being supplied is constant, if it drops too low - you'll damage the internals, if it goes too high, same deal. If you crank it from engine start you may be able to say good-bye to your PS3. Just some thoughts =)

I have the ELM 327 Bluetooth and also had tried the ELM 327 USB from MoCoSo - neither will interface with the OBDII computer in the way that you are hoping - it doesn't decode the protocol correctly. (This is the case in my V35 Premium in any case) The Nissan computer, (as it is a jap import) uses a protocol mixture - you need a specific cable to interface. I've ordered one, ill let you know my findings when it arrives, if it works, and where you can get it. But yes - im afraid you wont be able to use that one to interface. I'm told that certain scan tools will work, but CentraFuse will not interface as the ELM 327 circuit can't correctly initiate the protocol for decoding via OBDII. Of course, you call always by a lovely Nissan Consult 2 interface, but you'll be in a few $ =) Its GPS linked, as such, everytime the car starts the GPS links through internet and sends GPS position every few minutes. Its custom code which i wrote myself. I've also modded the PC so that if there is no code entered on startup, the speakers LOOP a "THIS CAR IS STOLEN" message through the speakers - but thats a bit extreme i think ;-) more fun than anything else. I've wired the head unit through the positive of the PC so it has no choice but to turn the speakers on. Hope this helps.

My 2 cents? My CarPuter install (which was linked earlier i believe) http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ca...10-t261099.html I have no problems with the setup as it is.... stable, no reboots, works a treat. Im running XP SP3 WiFi/GPS/Internet all work fine (not that i FB at stop lights or anything........ ) Chris is right (as he always is) with the TV Tuner, my USB Tuner works......... but bearly - stronger antenna or dual tuner is a recomendation.... Be careful with your OBDII purchase, its not as simple as one would think - Chris is your main man for this - we had a good long discussion about it =) Other than that, i plan to post vids/pics of the GPS and suite in action - just fine tuning some audio config with the speakers (parts arrived today) Good luck in your PC build! =)

Sorry for the delay guys, hit some snags with the OBDII connection and GPS... I've just got the GPS sorted (1:30am FINALLY) Didn't have time for many photos, but here is one of XP Install and Windows XP Welcome Movie - more to come tomorrow as i need the car for friday night! *fingers crossed i can get the OBDII working by then* =(

Will these bulbs fit the "high beam" mode if i buy them? Currently my normal beam is Xenon and then my high is this ugly yellow..... Also, what bulb/LED do i need to change the parkers/ (Sorry to hijack, but while we're on the topic)

Hey Chris, is your VanPC using any sort of power regulator to ensure the voltage coming into the PC? I used to have BSOD back in the day it turned out to be the power not filtering correctly. I'd move to Linux too, but query weather its a software related BSOD or Hardware..... Cheers =)

Windows XP my friend =) - More compatibility with drivers etc. Tru.Dat = XP/ Windows 7 in the future if they sort out the drivers. Centrafuse Navi is def getting loaded.

n15m0 - Internet will be using a Optus Wireless USB Stick, 3g (New ones) I have this provided to me by work, and works well in most areas. So it will be connected during my daily commute

Hi guys, quick update to let you know the PC arrived, i've attached a photo of it de-boxed. Sadly, with the daylight i had, only had time to get the positive and negative wires going, with a quick test to make sure its booting. More pics hopefully tomorrow, if its nice and sunny =)

Hey scathing, although id do a track day, i don't think id be interesting in having my car in a drift day... My Pirelli tyres are way too expensive to be burning out, as are my DBA brake pads! hahaha In saying that, whats the average price of slicks nowadays?
-
Mines a premium and it has it, so im not sure what to tell ya... In saying that... maybe its a option... You know "I'd like the premium with......"
-
Now THATS ironic! hahaha SAU Commandment #3: Thou shall not disobey the Chris Rogers recommendation!
-
Only as sure as the information my Mechanic gave me, www.tunehouse.com.au - give em a call and ask for a quote... Tell them (Tim GE.33.EK) sent you

Mines somewhat rusted, but my mechanic had said in the past there was no probs getting a HKS put on............ V35 2003 Coupe Of course, if i had the $$$ i woulda done it already....

Well, this should settle it. I just called RTA inspection bay (the place that do certifications to let you back on the road after a defect) - in NSW. Not sure about the equiv in VIC Roads. They advise that any modification that hinders the visibilty of any light, is considered a defect and will not pass. I even asked if you change the down light on the license plate to a different colour. It actually has to be white. So sorry my friend, you're out of luck, yes its a defect. It's not illegal to do, but it is to drive on NSW roads as its defective, hence making it illegal. I agree, some modifications are OK, without engineers cert, i.e. Tyres up or down an inch.

Hate to break it to you mate, anything changed after certification is a defect. Plain and simple. The only thing, within reason, is the exhaust. As for a cop defecting you, probably not, as for the insurance company.... probably not. Realistically you could remove the film before it gets sent to the repairer.... and if the guy that hits you doesn't know any better - no biggie.... Of course, this would be insurance fraud - legally you're obligated to notify the insurer of any modifications to the vehicle. In saying that, i attach some photos from my old Mitsubishi Mirage, i drove around with these tints for over 1 year - got defected once, and it still passed pink slip, twice.

ROFL! Good analogy!

Interesting split view =) I'd agree with Chris Rogers, only in that he clearly knows his electronics. In saying that, im IT minded so i tend to go for more robust systems and technical knowledge. In saying THAT, i don't disregard superspit's input! =/ What a dilemma you have!

Hey Fremeer, thats not really a CarPuter im afraid mate... Its just a double din deck with many options. Is your current TV a double din, or pop up OEM navi?
-
Put me down for a Copper, if its not too much trouble =)
-
I've got a 20amp fuse, its actually 12AWG =) - i'll splice the wire a little later.... got a bit lazy I plan to fill the hole with silicon gel, make sure its sealed! - For now, its under a car cover, so no biggie =) Appreciate the words of caution!

Various photos fellas =)
