  1. hello all, can you tell me when time comes to rebuild the RB26, just the shortblock, what is a good rebuild recipe. i have -5's with all the supporting mods, and would like to know just a good rebuild formula. was looking at forged pistons, new oil pump, bearings, probably crank balance/clean up, standard rods, harmonic balancer, waterpump, is there anything else that needs to be done, im not looking to rev the crap out of this engine, or chase massive power, just realable power. cheers
  2. hey cheers for reply, yeah apparently the cold start hasnt been set up on mine yet? have been driving it around for last 3 months and has been sweet though, changed the plugs when they fouled and it worked mint, but then started running like crap about 50 km later, maybe running really rich and fouling when cold? i know my tune is set to run quite rich too?
  3. hey all, as my previous post about plugs fouling etc, have LINK G4, no AFM's, -5's.... was trying to figure out why car running so bad till it warms up, hesitation/popping/backfiring have figured out it starts backfiring only when making boost any help would be great cheers robbie
  4. hey the race was actually bout 2 mths ago...... came 3rd got beaten by a ss torona drag car, and a valiant drag car too. 8.86 sec, winning time was 8.06. didnt really know what RPM to launch at, was trying about 6500 but bogging down. tryed at 7000RPM was mint, but heated clutch up so it slipped on my 8.86, 2nd and 3rd gear slipped big time (woops) nevar drag raced before, the twin plate was pretty mint though oh yeah didnt have time to get boost wound up, so was 310AWKW too
  5. hey, no which sucks, about 15 hrs away, bummer though i sponsor Robbie Ward at RIPS, ha....... will try getting that info
  6. hey there, just figured out the backfire/hesitation is when boost starts building when its cold, when the engine isnt warmed up also there is no cold start up set on the LINK either yet? ideas??????????????????????
  7. hey bro, My RB26 modifications started out at about $12k ending up costing me $22,500 hope this makes ya feel better?
  8. hey thanks, i might ask him about the IAT sensor too.
  9. boost controller?
  10. seen he set the tune to run rich (as requested by me) would leaning it off be the first step?
  11. yeah but it had a power fc in it before (tuned by another tuner) and it ran sweet till it came to queenstown, then again ran like crap
  12. crap, so how is that fixed? cheers
  13. hmmm, as stated my STI did the exact same thing, different car different tuner?
  14. cool thanks for that, if i get the new dyno readout could you guys let me know if it is a bad tune or not? cheers
  15. hey will get that info cheers
  16. oh yeah the power fc was tuned in auckland, sea level too cheers
  17. hey paul33, this is what im talking about, cheers for the reply, yes the power fc had AFM's, it is now running the new Link G4 with map sensors, and yes you are correct it was tuned in christchurch at sea level, and as i posted it started perfect this morning in christchurch, but where i live in queenstown (400m above sea level) it starts badly. when i got the car back from christchurch about 6 months ago it ran real well for about 3 mths, then started running badly. just before i took it to the drag race meet i put new plugs in it, it ran perfect. i did the plugs in while engine was hot so it wouldnt run full choke and foul them, drove about 25k, did about 7 passes drove home, did about another 30k, plugs fouled
  18. yeah both cars had different tuners
  19. hey i think you may be right, queenstown i think i have heard gets alot of shit fuel? hmmmmmmmm, but than why did it start in christchuch the next day sweet as?
  20. hello all, so ive put this problem up before but nobody could figure it out, no mechanics here in NZ can figure it out either. IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY........... I bought an STI WRX from auckland (auckland being at sea level) with the usual extras, the most notable one being the aftermarket Link computer, and brought it down to queenstown where i live (about 400m above sea level). When it started getting warmer after winter (air getting warmer/thinner) the car started running rich, popping, backfiring, fouling plugs. sold it about 1 1/2 years later cause no one could fix it I bought a GTR from auckland, usual extras, power fc etc. same problem, starts running richer when i get it to queenstown, got a Link put in it when i got it more heavily modifed and it fouls plugs real quick. first thing in the morning the car is un-driveable, i took it to my mechanic yesterday (in christchurch sea level) where he said it started and ran perfectly, he is going to retune it and lean it off, as the first was tune was rich (safe) i know that the sensors should adjust to the atmospheric conditions, but whats the problem? ive spent so much coin on this car, and dont want to sell it any advice/help would be great cheers robbie
  21. yeah they can handle more power, but you really want to figure out what you want, i kinda miss the low down power of the factory turbos, the -5's are good to keep pulling all the way up the rev range.... no not yet down the quarter mile yet, been down the 1/8 mile and beat a GT4O, new supercharged shelby cobra etc
  22. ha yeah alot of money aye, yeah its running -5's so they are capable of alot more, looking back on it now i would have gone for the -7's, but seen i have never been in a car with them maybe i should keep my trap shut
  23. no meant hicas, probably made the slide worse im guessing..........hmmmmmmmmmm should probably bin the hicas aye? dirty ol' kerb kicking crap ha
