Was driving my R33GTR to get tuned today, going around a 65kph corner on a wet road doing about 100kph and the car let go pretty hard fish-tailing to the right for about 40m then fish-tailed to the left for about another 50m while staring at the roadbarrier about 30cm from the front/side of the car. scarey. Dont know if the hicas saved me, or made it worse but nearlly shat myself. Just goes to show that your not bullet proof in these cars aye. I dont think its going to help that my mechanic is cranking the power up from 500hp to over 600 either. oh well thought i would share that

hey there ive got the nismo drop in pump, nice and quite, -5's no problem with them cheers
-
so nismoid, i guess we have 'hopefully' established that i have compressor surge, rather then shuffle, does the compressor surge damage the turbos? thanks for ya help too.....
-
hey thanks for the that, i guess that what these forums a for aye, people like me who dont know that much learning from a wide range of people with good knowledge
-
hey sorry about confussion, in all honesty i wasnt quite sure what he meant, i pretty sure it wasnt to do with back cutting compressor, because it was to do with the actual turbo housing, and how he mentioned it was on new turbos? r33gtrkid 'reversion' is more like the sound/noise i have, and as he explained it, but my noise goes on light throttle, hills, cruising motorway, as soon as i put my foot down, or boost, it goes away, sorry if i misslead anyone with the my 'shuffle' theory
-
so was talking to my mechanic today about the ol' turbo shuffle, he spoke to his turbo rebuilder and was mentioning to him about that the new turbos coming out (not garrett yet though) have some back-cut on them to reduce the shuffle? he said he can do it to my -5's (i know R31nismoid put on standard BOV and piping to fix problem ) at around NZ$1.5k im over trying to tell him to put the original GTR BOV on (he insists not to) balance pipes, standard piping etc im just gonne leave it as is and crank the boost up from 18 - 20lbs and be done with it. anyone heard about this back cut(ing) of turbos? sorry cant explain this in more detail/better

Rb26dett + 2860 -5 = Surge? Myth?
donkeypunch replied to Phantom Snail's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
when i bought my GTR, one of the things that sold me on my car was hearing the sweet sound of the turbos spooling, as ive said before im not a big fan of all the BOV, wastegate loud exhaust's noises etc, so when i got my car back was kinda gutted. big turbo shuffle, BOV noises (even though its plumbed back) etc. would some how building a box around the pods mask the noise, not that is any room! just wanna here the -5s aye -
hey thanks for that, yeah going to try a softer spring first on the HKS BOV, then will prob leave it at that, may go back to stock if i ever have anymore spare coin
-
dam i couldnt bring myself to scrap it, i didnt ask my mechanic to build it like that, but thats what he did, i dont want to through more money away too, might just get that BOV done, then live with the noise, just would like to here those ol' -5's spool up, rather then 'thomas the tank engine' on crack cheers robbie
-
yes they are adjustable, my mechanic said he would try a softer spring.......
-
heres my inlet, it would be a pitty to scrap it. any ideas ?
-
hey, custom made dumps, custom made inlet (prob half the problem there!) injectors, pump, G4 link, profect b, etc etc running 18lbs 310 RWKW, stock internals, cranking boost to 20lbs soon.........
-
yeah crap, i have read so much stuff about this, but my tuner insist on not going back to stock because of the leak? i dont really want to 'tell' him to put them back on? but i should really aye
-
hey there' so my car is going to try getting rid of shuffle (RB26, garrett -5's) going back to standard BOV, dirtgarage said that the HKS balance pipe did a good job, but cant be bought anymore, and expensive around 1k? my mechanic suggested making one up?????? any suggestions?

Rb26dett + 2860 -5 = Surge? Myth?
donkeypunch replied to Phantom Snail's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah ive got big surge....... does it actually kill the turbo's???????????????????????????????????????? -
ha yeah the ol' donkey punch, not for the faint hearted aye i think (when i rob the local bank ) will go 26, want the car to remain standard(ish)...... ive got no gauges, not lowered, no aftermarket spoilers, the car has LMGT4's and looks like it came out of the factory. i was even gutted when my mechanic said i needed a FMIC and an aftermarket BOV. i kinda like the idea that one day my car might be a classic, alot of my friends have modifyed their cars so much that it would take the purchase price of the car to get them back to standard. hey my car would look better lowered, but compared with my mates supra with his entire aftermarket spoiler kit cracking and falling of because its so low and the adjustables are so hard its like hitting the car with a slege hammer everytime he hits a bump, ill think ill stick wih the dirty ol' engine she was made to run with and hopefully may hold its value a bit. but hey it sounds like the 30 is the way to go for power/torque, and well, everything else!
