  1. Chasing an alternative to the small lip spoiler that still allows me to do away with the factory one. I can have one custom made but it will cost more than $1000 and I can't bring myself to spend that sort of cash on a purely aesthetic mod. Please feel free to point me in the direction of other companies that make such an item. Cheers
  2. I'm running PFC and couldn't be happier, but it really just comes down to the tuner. Ask a local trusted workshop what they recommend and they will steer you towards what they are best at tuning, and what they have seen the best results with. A tuner with complete knowledge of Link ECU's will not tell you to get a PFC, one who's tuned hundreds of Microtechs will not want to "try their hand" at Nistune. A good tune is a good tune, regardless of which product they use to achieve it.
  3. I really think you'll regret installing a sunroof. Even factory ones have a shocking habit of leaking after a while, even on some truly expensive cars. The fact that you're retro-fitting it is even worse. Ask around people who have sunroofs as to what they think of them, and whether there's rust around them due to moisture pooling in the outside seals. I know 4 people who have them, and only one of those isn't rusted/leaking, mainly because it's a 2008 model car, I suspect.
  4. Soooooo... I've been checking this thread for nearly 2 months now. Still want to know where the drain plug is. Some say mission impossible. Any pics? Mad082, you've said repeatedly to "use the drain plug, that's why it's there!". Where?!?! Pictures would be lovely but I'll settle for a vague description. It's been alluded to several times but has as yet remains unanswered. Please help, I'm getting my new radiator soon.
  5. please consider using punctuation in your long winded and confusing replies because just linking everything together like this makes it a pain in the arse to read and also turns any answer you give into the babble of a noob which removes any credibility you may be trying to obtain cheers Yeah no don't put a rear strut brace on the r33. I learned this after the fact. Get swaybars instead. Much better handling mod.
  6. I agree. Do the lot. A suspension joint broke 2 of mine, but showed me that they actually had a copy of the r33 manual showing to do them up at, from memory, 110nm, and had set the gun to that, and it went pop. Shit happens, the guy was genuine, and it's an old part which definitely gets its share of wear. I bought 20 new studs genuine from nissan and they set me back roughly $50 and 2 hours of my time, and now I know another part of my car is new. Just make sure you put the nut on the bolt before you hit any of the studs out with a hammer and you should have no great difficulty figuring this out.
  7. yay. Good luck with that. Well, you went against the advice of all the people whose advice you initially asked for. You shall emerge from this job either a hero to the little guys who say "it can be done on the cheap", or a bitter and angry person who has discovered a way to spend GTR dollars on a converted gtst which will have an even worse resale value. You're keen on the car you have, believe me, I understand. But they way you acted so horrified when someone posted that you could easily be up for $2k just leads me to believe you have truly not thought this through. Sad note. sorry...
  8. It doesn't sound TOO bad but i would have guessed higher. The quoted power figure of 206 is a bit iffy though. The 'gentleman's agreement' could be and was broken, and I would think there was a fair bit more based on seat-of-the-pants dyno runs. However, remember, more than a few ponies have probably escaped the paddock in the last 17-21 years......
  9. Nice work! I like oddball stuff, and using the 35gtr as a drag time yardstick was a fairly ballsy move for a Lada! How hefty is the price of parts over in Russhland?
  10. unlikely. read nismoids post. then research more. then read nismoids post. then buy a turbo back system that isn't china spec. then read nismoids post.
  11. Yeah sorry I retract my question after reading through some of the search results I realised you didn't have an exhaust. Thats the major difference. Full turba back system will help expel that gas, sort that out first. My bad.
  12. Nismoid, I ran a fmic and pod and wound the boost up to 10 on mine and never had any issues. It ran like this for a good 9 months before I put in my PFC and had it tuned. Is it just some cars that have this issue or is it possible that the boost controller is creeping well above 10?
  13. What brand of fmic and did you fit it yourself? Is the pod heat shielded and is it a wet or dry element? These mods alone won't up your power by a huge amount but the flat spot is certainly cause for concern.
  14. Rianto is still doing group buys on RDA rotors and pads (rs73) Seal kits, see a brake place Brembos that don't need reconditioning anyway, a lot more.
  15. No. Close thread. Dude unless you own a workshop or can do EVERYTHING yourself, and plan to steal all the necessary parts, then no. Sell it and buy a turbo. It's not that it's overly complex, it's just that it's far from "a cheap way".
  16. Can't think of a single car that I wouldn't want black. Bitch to keep clean but it really does just work with anything. Though I am getting partial now to satin finishes. I saw a territory (of all things) the other day that was a similar colour to that millenium jade r34 (olive green) but in flat/matte rather than gloss..... Not bad.... I'm thinking of having my black 33 resprayed in satin black but I'm worried it will come out looking as though I badly need to polish it.....
  17. ^^^^^ Agreed. At least try that first before spending big. Pulling mine down to every component, cleaning all the gunk out, replacing seals etc, then putting them back together with a quick lick of paint and some new rotors/pads did wonders for mine. And the paint added another 10kw, undoubtedly...
  18. Pulsar gti-r. 4WD, light and nimble little car to begin with, SR20DET power and relatively easy to modify should the desire strike you. And staying Nissan. But also very small and cramped for passengers. Don't go the conversion route, unless money is no object. Look at the Advan gts/gtr/gts4 car. Then realise why people don't do it.
  19. It may be easier to find a gtt with front end damage to use as a rear cut. It would be relatively cheap to buy that way, but once you factor in the labour costs I really think you'll find another car cheaper.
  20. Not really. Power in a FWD car is annoying to be honest. It'll put a few others to shame in a straight line (as a magna did to me a few years back) but your bragging rights are pointless if the car is no fun for you to drive. But, do what you want. I never listened to all the people telling me to stop buying cars when I was younger, and now when I do the math I've flushed a good $100k into cars over the years, and nothing to show for it, so who am I to judge. Don't worry, I'm sure other people will read this thread tomorrow and judge you. And judge you HARD! Right in the face!
  21. And keep in mind that turbo x-trail's car started with an sr20. That makes life easier. But even then I'm willing to bet it's too top heavy for most performance lovers. (no offence man)
  22. Well at least you're honest. And not a little dipshit. Most newbies would have called us fags by now and threatened to come beat us up. Look, don't mod your first car. Especially putting a loud exhaust on an excel. It's been done to death, and will never turn heads. Or sound good. It will however make the cops pull you over. Costing you fines. And fine dollars are better put into a jar for your next car. Here's a suggestion, start saving for the next car and leave this one as an A to B. Excels are quite good at that. They are not good at being modified. I'm on my 5th car, and if I wasn't saving for a house and wedding, I'd be selling it too for something better. But this is the first car I've ever modified, because it's the only one that can be modified well. But the GTR, well that'd mod even better. By the time you're on your Xth car, r35's may be affordable. R34's were $100k when I got my 33gtst, now I can actually afford to buy one, with cash, at around $40k. Just don't get a wife and you'll be sweet. And still be willing to buy depreciating assets when you've reached the age when you can afford to. Again, no wife will help with this....
  23. Don't be fooled into thinking one particular company is selling bad fuel, they tend to all get their fuel from the same tanker (at least they do in smaller towns) Up in Cairns, I know FOR A FACT that all the servos are getting their fuel from the same tanker, Shell just has first fill as they own the lines up here. This means if one particular servo is having problems, it's either A) Water in the tanks, though this tends to only cause a drama when the tank is nearing empty B) Wrong fuel ie 91 in the 98 tank C) They sell very little fuel and it has literally 'gone bad'. Fuel does seem to get shittier over time, a month or so is all it seems to need. Send them the bill though, they'll only investigate if it's going to cost them money. Trust me, they will listen if they get more than one complaint from the same station
  24. More focus on the looks? I'd try to take the focus away from the looks if I were you. Essentially, you'll end up with a head-turner, but for the wrong reasons. Having it pull an 11 sec pass at the strips in front of a crowd will turn heads. Covering it in stickers and a bodykit will turn stomachs. Trust me, after you sink money into it, you'll just wish you'd bought a better base car to begin with. I have a gtst that cost as much as a good 33gtr would these days, but I can't sell it, because it ain't worth shite. You'll feel exactly the same way when you realise your excel is too slow and ugly to put next to the big boys. Difference is, I can buy parts EASILY.
  25. Step 1: Don't bother Step 2: Repeat I have seen a performance car mag with a 'hotted up' excel in it before, but the guy had sunk over $10k into it (excluding the initial purchase price) and it still had less power than a bog standard r33, and was comparable to a bog standard late model corolla sportivo. If you must do it, ok, but don't expect a sleeper at the end. Especially on a skyline forum. sorry...
