I'm chasing a pair of R33 gtst side indicators, specifically the Nismo smoked type. If you're wrecking a car with these on there please let me know. I've found them brand new for as low as $88 delivered (genuine Nismo) but if I can save money on a purely asthetic item I will. No dreamers though, a guy on ebay wouldn't go less than $80 for a used set with a crack in one. Cheers

Agreed. Dealers don't make much money selling the car, although they will try to. Generally though to make anything they have to sell you options and get you back for servicing. I worked for a large company that did the dealer extras like paint protection etc. and can tell you that good rust proofing (NOT electronic) is the only thing worth having. It's a prick of a job to do for the sprayer and it works bloody well. Electronic ones are shite and we sold them for $120 to the dealer, who charged $800 Tint with lifetime warranty was $130, they on-sold it for $580 Paint protection, well the bottle cost us about $40 and did about 6-7 cars, they charged $250 a pop. bastards.... and yet they get upset if you even suggest that car salesmen are scum

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is loaded with some brilliant lines. "Can't stop now, this is bat country" "As your lawyer I advise you to buy a fast car with no roof" "HE WAS LYING TO US! uh oh, did I say that or just think it?" But my personal favourite, "Let's get down to brass tacks here, how much for the monkey?"

Ask a windscreen shop for piano wire and handles. It'll take off the urethaned skirts in minutes provided you can actually get the wire around the skirts. A panel shop once asked us to remove a VE commodore's beaver panel cos it's glued on and they were unsure the first time they worked on one.

Importing An R32
PhilKenSebben replied to Dec23's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
More than it will to just buy one already here in my experience. You can actually look at the car yourself and have a mechanic go through it, and you can get into a gtr for $15k, just be ready to pay more for the right car. If my 33 gtst didn't owe me so much money I'd sell it tomorrow and get into a 33gtr, cos damn they're good value. -
Jamezilla- You own a convertible DB9?? Why? Sorry, realistically I'd sell my soul for one but you obviously have the money not to have to do that, so the question stands.... Why pay more money for less car? Why pay extra for them to not give you a roof? Why pay extra for them to make the car heavier and therefore slower? Why pay extra to make a sweet sportscar less rigid? Don't take this as a dickhead 12 year old forum dweller telling you how much better his skyline is but why the convertible? My only guess is that it makes it easier for the women to throw themselves into the chick magnet car as you pull up at lights.

I live up in FNQ. Worked on a r34 gtr today that owes it's owner $212k to date, but he loves it, so while that may be ho-hum down in the big smoke, up here it's VERY rare. And sweet. And the other day I saw a Gallardo (black) on Sheridan st in Cairns, but without a picture, who gives a shit?!? But it's the second one I've seen in Cairns now and we only have around 150,000 people, so I consider that fairly high to be honest. And lots of Ferarri's and Porsches. That's from being close to Port Douglas, the millionaires holiday home.

Agreed. It was the package as a whole that was more upgraded than the engine and gearbox. While there are tuning differences, and with that, power differences between the r32, r33, and r34 model engines, they are essentially the same engine. That's why I should sell my 33 gtst and buy a 32 gtr now instead of pissing away any more money, and starting with the better package. But I'm an idiot. Realistically, age and km's are more important than the series of gtr the engine came from. Unless it's a Nur. Or has been rebuilt. Or particularly strong or weak due to factory tolerances. Or if you buy the engine on a Tuesday. you get the drift......

Price On A R33 Coupe?
PhilKenSebben replied to OLDSKOOLRX2's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Bad news mate Skylines are sadly around twice the price in Oz as they are in NZ, thanks to the need to protect local car companies (even if they do keep closing plants and moving to third world countries) -
Yeah you gotta love instinctive reactions. I'm a windscreen fitter and in the early days I dropped my Olfa knife (like an extra long stanley knife) while getting out of the car I was working on. My truly awesome, jedi-like reactions helped me catch the knife before it hit the ground. Lucky me. I didn't even have to open my fist before the guy I was working with gave me some inspiring kudos which were something along the lines of "you dickhead, that'll hurt soon". And it did. Stanley knife blades are sharp enough to do real damage, yet somehow not hurt for the first few seconds, which gives you just enough time to think about how much blood you're about to lose.

Performance Parts
PhilKenSebben replied to xxx200's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
What car did these come from? How many injectors? -
sheet PhilKenSebben , that is harsh, hope the scars are in a stylish pattern Nope, and I'll get you a photo if I can get him to shave his head again. Shouldn't be too hard, a night of drinking normally does it. The hair only looks weird when it's really short but there are some VERY impressive scars dwelling beneath. Then again the same dickhead went to hospital after falling off a car roof at 110km/h mainly because he failed to tell the driver he was climbing out to do it so by the next time I see him he'll probably have a few more scars to prove his stupidity.

My mate removed the gearbox from his dad's Falcon while it was up on ramps. Handbrake wasn't on. Falcon rolled onto mates head. Mate felt head crumbling and tore it out before it was crushed. 42 stitches in head. Lots of blood. Hair now grows in odd patterns. Mate was unhappy. Laughs had by all except mate.

Couldn't agree more, any fine cut abrasive will do a good job, including toothpaste, autosol metal polish is what I use cos I found some in my shed. It's quicker to start with 2000 grit wet/dry paper, soaked in water for half an hour, then rubbed over avoiding the surrounding paintwork. When it looks like shite, hit it with the finest cut polish you can and plenty of elbow grease and marvel at the results! I've done mine 3 times in 5 or so years of ownership.

I'm after the instrument cluster if it all works well. This may sound stupid but is it easy to wind the odometer FORWARD? I'm about to do my 100k service with timing belt etc and want a cluster with 100k on the dial. I never plan to sell my gtst as it'll only upset me when I discover that the car that now owes me r34 gtr money is worth about $15k, so I just want the odometer to be accurate for my own reference. Replacing mine because it has a cheap and nasty 'EL dial' face and ever since its install the needles are correct but 'jerky'. They no longer sweep the face smoothly and the white face just looks tacky. I'll even swap mine for yours and you can sell it again if you feel the burning desire to obtain more car crap. Or does anyone else have one closer to 100K?

Top Gear Australia - Bad Acting/bad Driving!
PhilKenSebben replied to V35DRIVER's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
NO! Do not get some v8 drivers to talk cars. It's dull. There's a reason Top Gear is incredibly popular, and it ain't because of the host's driving abilities. Find people who are funny and passionate about cars. Make sure they disagree with each other. Add massive budget. And hire good script writers with some imagination. The UK version has exactly what it needs to be a hit. Why mess with it? -
The Aussie delivered R32 was around $108k compared to the SS Commodore coming in at around $38k, so you're right, it'll be a bit of a difference. A better comparo would be the same era 911 that Nissan has always aspired to was around $160k, so the argument could be made that the R35's $170k versus the current 911 turbo's $320k+ is becoming even more of a bargain, particularly now that Porsche is now getting worried rather than flattered by Nissan's goals....

At a workshop I was working at a while ago, just found it while cleaning out my phones memory (the pic not the car) VERY clean example

AAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!! EEIKO you are killing me! Are you going for a point or just arguing for the sake of it!? here: I love jap cars every jap car is brilliant and 100% reliable anything non jap is complete rubbish the camry is a great car and not only reliable but it has its own forum suzuki swifts are great but if you re-badge it holden it is unreliable and shite The holden apollo is possibly the worst car ever made anyone who buys a commodore or falcon should be hung toyota never sold a car called a lexcen eeiko has a gtr34 and commands respect he is well informed and his opinions are the only correct ones and he is cool whereas I enjoy a good bumming from the occasional bloke.

Yeah you gotta love the way a car can be up to 10% out and ADR will pass it, but the cops will happily fine you for less than 10% over the speed limit. hmmmm. Like all the defect rules that exist yet when a prominent organisation suggested that a police Honda motorcycle, due to it's non-symmetrical excess mass (sirens, lights, etc) was unsafe above 130 km/h, it was ok. Or that "there's no such thing as safe speeding, every k over is a killer", yet police will reach huge speeds to get to a bank that's been robbed of it's fully insured money, but that's acceptable. Almost as if they're screwing us.....

Oh and don't start me on what sells well in Yanksville. They are the largest consumers of the worlds best selling car, the F series. And it truly is a silly vehicle that blurs the lines between "I want to be a truck driver" and "I need to be able to out-accelerate a Porsche" *WARNING - QUOTES MAY BE HARMFUL WHEN TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT

A $10k option adding 10kw? To a heavy sedan? Must've taken that performance to roughly the same dimension as a Jim Beam sticker on the back would have. Gold. The old 7MGTE was superseded quickly by Toyota, because in the real world, people DO make mistakes, yes, even Toyota, and they do have a reputation for reliability to uphold. My opinion is based solely on 2 friends having numerous problems with both of theirs, but let's be honest. They were both old imports, have probably lived a harsh life and unknown service history, so don't spit on me just yet. The most documented problem was blowing head gaskets, it was apparently quite common, and not exactly a $20 repair. Of course a metal replacement item solved this qualm. I have NOT owned a 7M, I am NOT an expert, this is purely HERESAY. But look at either side of the V8 vs import fence. Throwing around stories of "mates" that may or may not have existed is rife, and the bullshitters will always outnumber those with actual experiences with both. Live with it. I chose Jap and have never been disappointed, others will choose 'aussie' and have nothing but fond memories. But suggesting both points of view can be valid on either forum and expect backlash
