They're not for us to see, it's for the police and traffic cameras to see. Unless of course there is a "hit and run" where the bike causes accident to a car etc. and rides off.

What's so bad about cyclists using footpaths anyway? I rode my bike to school pretty much all the way up until I got my driver's license, don't think I rode along the road (sure I crossed a few) more than a handful of times at most. Pretty much always along a footpath, never once caused any inconvenience or had any problems. When there was a few people I was able to slow down to their pace and then pass on the grass or the other side of the path where available. Why can't this just happen? Am I missing something here!?!

Why? Because I drive my vehicle in a manner as to not inconvenience road users travelling behind me that probably have better things to do than sitting behind the wheel for a prolonged period of time? Yeah, good one chief

That's the thing though, I have no dramas continuing past a cyclist doing the speed limit, other motorists however seem to have a real problem with this concept of driving straight, in their lane and past a cyclist not doing the speed limit. They then hold up traffic for the rest of us poor souls who were in the queue at the traffic lights/stop sign etc. Far easier to deal with the comparatively small amount of cyclists than to re-educate a million odd car drivers to be less shit.
