  1. Minibats, I'll pm you a link to the pdf version of the rule book / build specs. You will need a hard copy to race ($10) but we are waiting for another batch of books. Just for interest sake here is an approx break down of the costs for my build (street stock). I have a lot of bits and pieces from previous cars so it will actually cost approx $750- $800 with the extra parts. But starting from scratch this is what you would be up for. XF falcon (carby version) $150 Rollcage steel $350 protective body bar work $150 second hand race seat $50 new g force 5 point harness $100 fire extinguisher $25 second hand jerry can fuel tank $20 gearbox, clutch for manual conversion (second hand) $50 front window mesh $20 side window net (second hand ) $25 Cheap gauge set $30 sheet metal for covering holes (lights, fire wall etc) $50 mud flaps $20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total $1040 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Extra parts if budget permits (second hand) 350cfm holley $100 extractors $50 cam shaft $50 valve springs (new) $100 * also need a second set of spare tyres. I think Dean would agree with me, the secret to building a cheap dirtcircuit car is not rushing out and buying all the parts at once, but take you time sourcing cheap parts and you could save your self 50% of the build cost. Also getting together with a mate and sharing the car is a great way to save on build, maintainance & traveling costs. The racing is set up so there is 8 races per class during a meeting but all drivers can only compete in 4, so sharing a car does not mean you will miss out on any races. Cheers Matt
  2. Here's a couple of videos from last season at Truro & district raceway. The in car footage is from an xf falcon. It's going to be a big 2011 season with 8 race meetings in total, starting in April and finishing in November, this includes a grand opening in May. There are alot of new cars being built ready for this season, including a couple of gtr's (converted to RWD).
  3. Thanks Dean for helping out on the weekend. I'm sure everyone who attended had a great time, spectators and drivers a like. We had 40 + drivers racing on the weekend and are expecting a bigger field of car at our next meeting on the 8Th of August. Get out to the track and check it out.   5. Here our quick 6 month build going on 5 years. Hopefully finish it next year. It's a dirt circuit open wheeler powered by a 1jz. It will hopefully weigh 800 kg and make 400 hp to be competitive. Our racing is open so anything goes. We are going to run a venturi under the car and also GP style push rod suspension. If Anyone is SA keen to build a car like this or a saloon check out www.dirtcircuitsa.com. We are currently building a new track approx 85 km from Adelaide and it only costs $10 to come and race.   6. Hello, There is a new club in victoria that will be running race meetings similar to dirtcircuit. Here is a link:-http://www.wvcruiseclub.com/showthread.php?p=77226#post77226 If it is set up the same way as dirt circuit in SA it will be the cheapest way to participate in organised motor sport. We only pay $30 a year club membership and $10 per race meeting nomination fee. Cars can be built for less than $1000, including all the saftey equipment belts, seat cage etc...
  7. I'm no turbo expert. It seems strange that race teams in the US are building big hp engines with top dollar internals and then bolting on what seems like a cheaper budget turbo. Some of these are making 1200hp, running big boost, pulling 8 second quarters and are happy with the performance and reliability of the Master Power turbos. Supposedly several years ago a Chinese company sold a batch of cheaper knock offs and it has tarnished the genuine products name. This makes it hard to find reliable feed back as a majority of people in the US are extremely happy with the turbos. Some have done 30, 000 - 50, 000 miles and over 50 full passes on the strip with no issues miles while others won't touch them maybe because of the knock offs bad reputation. It is reported that Master Power has been making turbos since 1966 and have one of the most modern manufacturing facilities available (video of factory below).   8. Has anyone used or have any info on the Brazilian made Master power turbos. Obviously they are no substitute for a Garrett. They seem to have a reasonable reputation in the states especially among the twin turbo mustang guys, considering their budget nature.
  9. Sorry mate you will have to join the queue. Here's a build I'm doing for a new dirt circuit commodore. Won't be running big boost but should make more than enough HP than to have a bit of fun on a Sunday afternoon.
  10. Hey Dean, Here's another option. Chris Noth on the Truro raceway committee has this for sale :-blown, injected, 350 Chev. It was last run in a commodore super sedan from Roxby and as you can imagine was insanely fast. It's a pity they banned nitrous a few years ago. A bit of laughing gas would make the 308 go hard.
  11. Here a bit of info for the guys interested in building a cheap race car for dirt circuit. This car was started 12 days ago by a couple of novices and may be almost ready to race this weekend. The car (something a bit different a Hyundai sonata) was free. The materials for the roll cage cost $170 and the whole cars should be built for approx $500 - $600.   14. Hey Dean I thought I would post some info on a new car. away from the DC site (it's been kept quite for the moment). The light weight open wheeler chassis we had for sale should be racing at the Black Rock State titles. It will hopefully weigh about 500kg and make 350 hp + using two engines. Or an approximate power to weight of having 1000 hp in a steel body commodore. Sounds insane. Our semi finished 900 kg - 400hp open wheeler looks fairly tame now.
  15. At the moment fuel injected cars run in modified saloons but there will be a new standard class next year that includes vn - vt commodores and the equivalent falcons. There has been a fair bit of interest in this new class and we will be definitely running this category at the new track. If you are keen to build a car we can currently supply the steel for the roll cage for approx $170. Cheers Matt
  16. Spectators don't wear too much dirt . Drivers on the other hand don't see too much and on really wet days you spend most of the time being a passenger. I usually go Thru 10 tear offs on my visor,and tear off on my goggles by the second lap in conditions in the pictures below, the last resort is closing your eyes or covering your face with a rag and occasionally peering out the side to make sure you are still on the track.
  17. Hello Guys, The rule books have arrived I will contact everyone who is interested in building a car next week. The track is progressing and we will have some serious testing of the track layout happening in the next few months. We expect top speeds of 140 + kph with the extension of the main straight. Its not overly quick compared with some other tracks but will be one of the most challenging with a mix of positive and negative camber corners on an undulating course. Here's a few pictures of a teams event in Whyalla. The advantage of racing dirt circuit is the racing format can be constantly changed. Standard style races, Handicap racing (reverse grid) or in the case of teams racing you have to work together to get your all team across the line in front of other teams. As you can imagine it offers spectators and drivers something completely different than your run of the mill motor sport.

Dale does that mean I tell the world about the incident involving a go Kart, a contour bank and stitches in an unusual place or the other story about how we lost all our clothes except our underwear and work boots or even how we broke the next door neighbours windows from 2 km away. I think I have at least 50 humorous stories. Seriously how we are still alive today I have no idea.

  20. I run my custom machining business on my own and have a huge back log of work. Several customers have had to wait along time for parts but I always compensate them with a reduced price or a free product if they have had to wait several months or more. I would definitely be asking for a discount.

  22. How about a Mazda familia 4wd turbo. I had a mate sell one for $1500 not long ago.   24. I would mid mount a 1jz / auto half cut into a $200 commodore. You could probably do it on your $2500 budget. I would pay that much to move to whyalla . They have more motor sport facilities than Adelaide :- Power boat club, motocross, go Karts, drag racing, off road, speedway and a 200kph dirt circuit track. The Truro and districts raceway will have an open day in September 2009, where we will have approx 30-40 cars on the track. If anyone has a car built by then they can come and practice. Now we have all the earth moving equipment out there the facility will progress quickly. Racing will commence in March/ April 2010 and we will be running practice sessions from Feb 2010. Start building you cars now guys. I did 30 laps on the weekend in a stock falcon wagon and was as much fun as our old open wheeler. If you like drifting but don't have the budget, dirt circuit is an comparable option. I could keep the old ford sideways for a solid 650 meters at up to 100kph and you don't need big power to do it either.
  25. Here's a few pics from a recent round of the state titals at Arno Bay. Over 100 cars entered and as you can see the the surface was well rubbered up resulting in some very fast racing.
