Yeah, carbs are just calories in the end...however I find a lot of things like breads and flour based stuff makes me feel like absolute shit and bloat beyond belief I don't have any issues when chowing rice or even potato, it's just flour/wheat that I hate.
It's enough to make me extremely dissatisfied with myself, so I avoid them. I'd rather be told I'm an idiot for these views than feel the way eating these things make me feel
When I get back into eating whatever I feel like, I'll still avoid them for the most part just not as religiously...if I want more carbs in my diet, then it will come from rice and oats mostly.
