Anyone Using Nistune In S1 Stageas ?
darkhalf replied to robots's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Mike - good to see some actual results of testing done on this Darrin if you can send it my way also enquiries[at]nistune.com also it would be appreciated as I would be interested in the differences between the wiring. i've wired up for ER34 on the bench for basic inputs but can test other inputs/outputs when i get free time. I've got on the list to probe the boost solenoid output to see how that gets controlled by the ECU -
R32 has TPS switch and variable voltage input. R33 only has variable voltage input... so using R32 you are missing the switch input on an R33. Means that it will not use the TPS Idle control which switches which maps (timing etc) to use. Have a look in my mapping guide on the documentation page at www.nistune.com. I've just gone through the R32 ECU tables with the hardware tracer to determine which maps get used under which conditons Speedlab (jeff) has coded a firmware change to use the TPS variable voltage input as a switch which I plan to do myself along with VTC external control from a modified board and that would make the R32 a more viable option for R33 tuning

grab the part number from the sticker on the side of your ECU (23710-xxxxx) and I can let you know -
Max Airflow On Std Afm And Max Power From Std Injectors?
darkhalf replied to Wacky Dee's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
not really because each AFM measures different amount of air and has different calibration im putting 480CCs and Z32 into my R34 GTT ... running with Nistune Type 4 board (making your own stuff is always a bonus here...) but yeah its a cheaper option than full aftermarket ECU -
grab the ROM pack from my website, its got RB25DET roms in there along with address file. I've got BINs transplanting RB25DET over Z32 to use as a start. R32 ECU uses TPS switch (R33 doesnt have one) and doesnt have VVT so few issues with using those

guys be careful not to confuse the two types of ECU.... you wouldnt want to be trying to rewire in a Z32/R32 ECU with the different (blue) connector Series 1 has the ER34 plug but similar processor to the ECR33/BNR33 ECUs... so your best option here if experimenting would be to plug in an ER34/StageaS2 ECU in with Nistune board. CRed tuning in Perth were going down this path last time I spoke to them but not sure on the progress since they were getting rid of the vehicle soon. I know it ran but not sure if any issues The main differnece is the Series 2 autos are tiptronic and Series 1 are the older style. Since these later style ER34/WC34 automatic S2 ECUs are tiptronic wasnt sure on how the transmission controlling was going to work with the older box (Basically theres two processors in these the newer grey plug AT ECUs... part number will be 23710-xxx1x to signify auto trans ECU with the extra bits. I believe also can be xxx6x ot xxx7x based rom my ER34 rom collection) -
You dont know if you dont ask! Seriously send me an email through and I'll have a look into it. The main thing I would need from you is (a) photo of the insides of the ECU so I can see what internal connectors (if any) there are) (b) consult download of ROM image. You need a consult cable for this. Use trial version of Nistune with ER34 address file and do Operations-Consult Download Email those through and then I can see if it runs. It most likely will since ER34/WC34 (stagea) are basically the same. From what I have observed so far C34 may be also... and I might be able to bench test the board in an ER34 on the bench too

pm sent -
interesting differences considering just cars / shannons both go through AAMI just got my ER34 today... cover $22K costing $1K / year full comp with shannons with some mods and one speeding fine over last year this is not my daily driver so works out cheaper that way

FREIGHT F.A.Q AND RECOMMENDATIONS
darkhalf replied to Gary2's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
We use Australia Post express post bags on a daily basis for sending ECUs and daughterboards and find this a cheap and reliable way to send small things through Only had one missing package so far over the last few years (stolen from workshop mailboxes) so far. If you want it signed for at the other end you can use Express Post Platinum bags which work similar to registered post (but unfortunatley no insurance) -
Piggy Back And Ecu Tuning Discussion
darkhalf replied to AlexCim's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
ER34 now does have speed limiter controls here are two limiters, and parameters are available in the updated address file (I'll be doing a ROM pack update this week with new address files with VTC control points, injector latency controls etc). -
locations for each state are here http://www.nistune.com/workshops.htm

Piggy Back And Ecu Tuning Discussion
darkhalf replied to AlexCim's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
We have done quite a few Nistune Type 4 boards for ER34 skyline lately... and with series 2 WC34 (stagea) using the same ECU we are expecting similar results One of the local guys here Ashley from Classic performance (SA) bought an ER34 from these forums and built is back up and dyno tuned it last week with upto 315rwkw @ 19psi / 297rwkw @ 16 psi. Details below http://forum.nistune.com/viewtopic.php?t=816 Also Simon down at Morpowa (SA) did another auto ER34 this week from Singery Motorsports getting about 300rwkw There are no problems with the boost cut on those, once you raise the Theoretical Pulsewidth limiter tables (there are two of them with these ECUs which I managed to hunt down) you just increase these and it will effectively avoid your 'boost cut' btw There is no need for emulators btw when using the nistune boards, the tuner just buys the board and gets someone to install for them. I do installs also for these boards... once the board is installed all the tuner needs to do is plug the laptop in the consult port and start tuning. -
Impul is just rechipped Nissan ECU even with Nissan part number for the tune... Read out the image using EPROM programmer or consult and then that can be modified. As mentioned above either Dr Drift or a tuner with Nistune can do this for you... and use that as a base tune to work from Those chips are soldered in so you will still need to get ECU resocketed

your best bet is to contact us (nistune) and we can help you out! if you are using a PLMS consult cable, you have three LEDs on there, the orange/green ones will flicker during consult initialisation. if only one flashes, but the other doesnt respond then the ECU isnt talking back my first question is - did the ECU connect to consult before installing the Type 2 board and is the car running okay (ie not running limp mode)? If unsure, reinstall the factory chip and check this out firstly. Basically you want to get back to a stock configuration so you can check that at least your consult wiring works okay. After this double check the plug wiring also so you have RX, TX and CLK hooked up correctly to the cable (also check GND and 12V lines to your plug) shoot me an email enquiries [at] nistune.com if you have any further queries

Hey Simon Yeah the problem with those ECUs is the MCU has to be replaced with a daughterboard which solders into where the MCU lives and then they intercept the logic with Programmable Logic Chips (MCU gets plugged in these boards). Currently those boards are fairly expensive. The boards seem to go for about $500-$700AUD but I dont know if that includes fitting. I've got on my list to get those ones done and that will surely drive the price down... but thats a couple of projects down on my list at the moment due to the complexity and time involved Fitted a few myself... you can then plug a Moates emulator into it and then tune using your exisitng license through that. Which is what Toshi is doing with Nistune (and then burning to blank H8 MCUs afterwards). Sam (dr_drift) knows where to get them if you are interested in getting one fitted (and confirm it is compatible with your ECU) Burning H8s is definately the economical solution for most people compared to daughterboard but depends if you like tweaking the tune...

sounds like bikirom. that board has FLASH memory and socket for plugging in MultiROM16. no other boards out there that I know which have that... -
Factory Ecu Tune For Skylines! Great Results!
darkhalf replied to jizza's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Nistune now has a realtime daughterboard for ER34 and we are gathering an extensive collection of various ROM images to support the variety of different ECU part numbers in our next ROM pack release (We have noticed earlier types dont have the traction control facilities and there is extra stuff for tiptronic automatics in the later ECU ROM revisions) We have had several workshops install them in Australia and some individuals running them overseas... We are still field testing S14A/S15 and OBD-II USDM ECUs at the moment with the same board. Once that is done we will start advertising the boards on the site. But ER34s run without any problems For a sneak peek we have the Type 4 hardware installation manual at www.nistune.com Basically they make the ECU tunable like an aftermarket ECU like the powerfc -
Reputable Workshop Recomendations
darkhalf replied to craig R33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
stock ECUs can be tuned easily ... just for R33s not cheaply. Looking at about $1000 for a specialised daughterboard installed on those ECUs and plugging an emulator into one of those -
You should be able to use a 16 bit Z32 daughterboard to run an RB25 still since the ECU pinouts are the same, Nissan upgraded to a different processor (probably because of the Motorola/Hitachi lawsuit stopped them using the HD6303 MCU midway through production of Z32) I would lean towards the 8 bit Z32 because more VVT control parameters have been defined if you wish to tune those. However I went through the 16 bit Z32 ROM last month and identified some more parameters to adjust since a few owners run nistune with these

R33 ECUs can be remapped here in Australia R33 Daughterboard (this is the expensive part) installed and an 8 bit emulator plugged into that. NIStune can then let you retune using this Afterwards tuner removes the MCU from customers ECU and install 84 pin PLCC socket, burn the tune to a blank replacment $80 MCU which is programmable once (PROM chip) You can use a SMT workstation for MCU removal or I have found Chipquick to be very effective (and low heat non damaging to components) Makes for cost effective install if a workshop just runs with the one ECU wiith daughterboard fitted for tuning

There is an orders page at www.nistune.com As well as FAQ with your options for R33 RB25 listed in here

Also Unique Auto Sports in NSW... I've gotta update this list! http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/tuning_shops.htm Basically if you have a tuner near by that wants to try the software out, they can use an individual users license. We've tune this a few times now and tuners become interested in using it, because its fairly easy to use and its just making adjustments on top of existing factory tune
