Ignition Coil and ECCS Relay Problems
darkhalf replied to Zushi's topic in General Automotive Discussion
sounds pretty complex. i can tell you with the ECCS relays from what i have seen.... ECU has constant voltage going in ECU has ignition voltage going in When ignition voltage turned on, there is a wire going to the ECCS relay which is pulled to 0v (active low) and the other end of the relay is connected to 12v When the relay is switched on, this powers up the rest of the components on the ECU and also powers up other EFI bits like fuel regulator, AFM etc. this is what i see on the R31/R32 diagrams and im guessing it probably would be similar for other nissans since they all have the same 'framework' this is for when you turn off the ignition - it takes something like 10 seconds before the relay is switched off. program says if vehicle speed sender > 20kph then turn on AFM heat cleaning wire during this time -
is reference used for the screw on the AFM? i think it adjusts the base A/F ratio calibration
-
they have the same plugs but use different pins. the r32 diagram is on one sheet but shows different connections for the GTR

i know from the R31 the TPS has something like five connections switch for idle/full throttle (auto/manual) variable resistor from idle to full (auto only) even though I had a manual loom, the wires were there for an auto TPS the three TPS wires for auto in the wiring loom goes via the ECU to the transmission to the auto trans computer. ie the ECU itself doesn't even use the TPS auto variable resistor if it is anything similar to the R33 you might notice the same thing. i know that ECUs are auto/manual but this is mainly mapping changes for load and injection cut off visit www.gweeds.net as this guy transplanted an RB25 into a VL turbo and rewired the entire loom! hes got wiring diagrams on the site also but i couldn't get it working last time i visited i would split the cefiro loom where these wires go to the A/T and put these into the RB25 loom good luck! matt

The Difference Between a R31 GTS and GTS-X is...
darkhalf replied to Rezz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
what changes were there to a series 2? like the aussie r31 had series 2 to fix some stuff ups on the series 1 but there was no real changes otherwise. aussie series 3 picked up the import series 3 bits apart from the mouldings and rear bumper which were still series 1 shape with the strip (front bumper has different side moulding to rest of the car! - dodgy nissan australia, south african r31s are like jap r31s with respect to this) import series 1/3 are easy to pick with body differences (lights, grills, moulding, bumpers etc) but what else changed -

RB30ET are actually 250CC, RB30E are 200CC When were R31 GTS models released. i thought i remembered reading somewhere after the GT Passage (about 1995 or something?) with the NICS engine. I have a RB20E AT FWD ECU (1984 printed on it) here i think it must be from a Passage? It looks very much like a RB30E ECCS ECU though matt -
some ecus only have one map, others have two (high and low octane). the o2 sensor will determine if it is running too lean/rich when in closed loop. the knock sensor will determine if the engine is pinging and will pullback the timing where needed. the maps themselves are not changed. but there is information stored in the 1K or so of RAM (early models) upto 32K RAM on later models. when reset, these will gradually relearn by large amounts gradually fine tuning. i think this might be stored in the ram and compared against the base map but this is only speculation until i do some more investigation into these. removing the battery overnight will dischange the capacitors which connect to the RAM chip and settings will be lost. car will run notiiceably shitty until it relearns the values again im playing around with the following ecus... still learning about r33 ecu currently http://imflame.ricetek.net/~darkhalf/ecu matt

hmmm.... okay i'll let you know if i need a second one unfortunately there were no offers for a few days and i took an offer for $180 damn...

thanks for the offers.... i've got one already on the way thanks matt

rb25det manual computer
darkhalf replied to boost's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
how much were you looking around? -
I'm wishing to loan or purchase (for reasonable price) either an RB25DE or RB25DET (preferred) ECU for a project to add a custom daughterboard to rechip R33s If you have one spare please post want you want to loan/sell it for here or email me [email protected] (does anyone know the difference between the DE/DET? like are there knock sensing boards on the DE?) thanks matt
-
Just wondering if anyone can help me with a new project. The RB25 ECUs use square shaped chips which render them unchipable by conventional means I am looking into creating a daughter board for these ECUs similar to those for the SR20 which take two EPROM style chips which will allow the user to tune them as opposed to replacing the ECU for an aftermarket type Anyway I am wondering.... can anyone either loan me their ECU if they aren't using it or are willing to sell me for a reasonable price. Currently I can get hold of a RB25DE type but cannot get hold of a RB25DET type (which I would prefer to work on) thanks Matt [email protected]

that makes sense - do you know what the voltages might be for the lower rate and high rate? does it use a throttle control switch to determine when to change these voltages or crank angle sensor / rpms? apparently the fuel pump control works fine as the guy is borrowing another ecu in the meantime... just he hooked up wires wrong when wiring the R32 RB20 into his R31 (NICS) passage and blew something resulting in fuel pump not working thanks matt
-
I'm fixing up a shorted out R32 ECU and noticed that pin 104 on the unit isn't working (Fuel pump terminal control output) For those who might know / have hooked up aftermarket ECUs to R32s, what voltages through this wire to control the fuel pump. Is it variable? thanks Matt

Info on R31 GTS-X - Turbo and Engine
darkhalf replied to Mr Rb20's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
at the thread says. the r31 NICS and ECCS ECUs are chippable. no one has figured out the NICS yet (i've had a look at it but haven't really spent much time going through it as i can't see any maps like on the ECCS units just random data) the redtop ECCS versions contain the maps in the standard locations (similar to the RB20 silvertop). dr drift and myself have a stealth image from lowlux's which we can rechip. probably advances the ignition timing and fuel maps against stock (i dont have a stock R31 ECCS image to compare against yet so see what they changed). the rev and speed limiters are easy to adjust in romeditor but boost cut i dont know much about altering yet -

Anyone has had any success fighting red light Infringemet?
darkhalf replied to gizmo's topic in General Automotive Discussion
in SA to get done by a camera its 4 seconds orange, about 0.5 second red, click, 1 second, click again and they have the speed you're doing plus two photos to prove you ran the light. getting done by a cop though i dunno -
HELP lost spring out of AAC Valve
darkhalf replied to R31Heaven's topic in General Automotive Discussion
i'd try and see if the ones from the rb30s fit. dont know if they are the same dimensions though -
it usually ends up myself or tim leading ... we'll just make sure no one spins out this time we are delaying the departure time to 5:30pm cos some ppl indicated they are just finishing work at 5

Keep OVerheating! arh! Help!
darkhalf replied to bryanlee38's topic in General Automotive Discussion
if you want to check it at home.... fill it up with distilled water and then run it warm. to check for external leaks (hoses etc) squeeze the radiator hose (it should maintain pressure when the engine is warm). see if you can see any radiator fluid coming from anywhere when/after you do this. i had a pin prick hole in one of the plenum radiator hoses under the inlet (couldn't see it) and lost a lot of coolant that way other thing is that internal loss of coolant can be caused by various things but it all comes out at the end (exhaust) so see if steam coming out and could be crack in head or gasket problem. also had this prob and was corrosion hole in head -
yup all welcome!
