He could be counting the BOV as an intake modification... I'd reinstall the stock one, they are perfectly good even on modified cars... and less attention from po-po-police

Think the reason for the change is more the conversion to a coil-on-plug setup instead of a separate single coil

They're older cars now... its like rb25 coilpacks fallling over at 14+psi, they're nearing the end of the effective lifespan. 10 years under a hot bonnet isn't great for many things.
