I certainly don't condone badmouthing anyone who makes a positive contribution to our automotive passion. Martin has certainly been a great source of knowledge. But we do need to help each other to iron out any teething problems with the car, especially with mods. Modifying cars is not a perfect science, a fair bit of trial and error is involved. Martin, let us know if you find a solution that works. White 35 also has the problem - his car actually does it worse than mine. In our cases the car was perfect before we used the Willall oil, but maybe the only way to really link the oil and the problem, is to change the oil back to Nissan, and see if the problem clears up. I'll do this when I'm next due for oil - unless someone else can do it before then. Cheers

yep < im going in the afternoon

GT Ricer, I have experienced exactly the same issue with Willal oil. I have sat in the car with the technician etc, to no avail. I will be going back to the Nissan oil next change if a solution is not forthcoming. The car is not enjoyable to drive like this.

from memory an sr20t, but could have been the fj20t.

I can assure you that little datto could seriously rumble ....I followed him for a few laps, he was good for 1:19 around Oran park, with lots of sideways action. I have a lot of it on video, just dont know how to zip it up for posting.

Jim at CRD has just finished the latest tune on my car, now running a consistent 395 atw kw, holding 19 pounds boost all the way (almost) to red line. Cleaned all the sensors, new plugs, - its like getting a new car again. Its amazing, but the car drives so differently, the power delivery is instant and savage the whole way to red line. I'm, going to WSID next wednesday night to try and beat my last time (10.89). Based on the on street improvement, I'm pretty confident I can beat it if I get a good launch. Whats even better news is that CRD reckon this tune is good for the track. I can lower the boost levels by 2 -3 psi and dial out wheelspin for track use - should still be good for 380kw plus atw on track. On road, at 19psi I'm getting some sensational wheelspin in second gear, its like driving a V8! Who said these things didnt have a soul?

I havent had any grinding noises but FWIW whilst there is no doubt the Willal oil is the best track solution, and still beautifully smooth on the shift, my car (tranny) shudders like a bucking bronco off the line in daily driving. I'm thinking about going back to Nissan oil for a while to see the difference...

I'd happily make mine available if CRD are interested in pressing MOTOR for a slot...Andre are you keen to pursue?

GT Ricer, I have tracked both tyres, Dunlops are better by about 1 - 1.5 seconds per EC lap I reckon. My first set of Dunlops saw 9000 kms including 85 laps of Bathurst and about 140 laps of OP. That set has still not reached the depth indicator, but are well worn at the edges. My current set have seen 100 laps of OP, 40 Laps of EC and the skids. They are still going strong (ish). I think the key in the long run is to have a different wheel/tyre set up for the track. Hence the order of Volks and Hoosiers.

Its my pleasure. I know what you mean, every time I see a Gun Metal Grey one I wonder if I made the right call. I do find Red paint quite sensitive to swirl marks etc, but in the end I figured that if I'm going to spend 150 + on a performance car it needed to be red!
-
Yeah White 35, your car looks particularly good when its in the garage with the door closed and the cover on...Reds the go, faster too...

Jason Hanif was out at Eastern Creek last Wednesday night and took these crackers of my car.

I have AP slotted and Carbotech pads for the track, MX 72s for the street. Before I tracked the Carbotechs the thing made more noise than the space shuttle, but after a hard days track work they were very quiet. White 35's J Hooks are a little noisier again .
-
I must admit I love the drive into the city every day!
-
Theo at Croydon Racing Developments in Syd has one, he will know how to get them.
-
I had the Carbotech 12's at the start of the night, but by the end of the night I just had backing plates!! Seriously, coming into turn one well into the 200's, in the dark, mashing the brakes and having a flurry of bright orange sparks flying over my car, wind-tunnel style, might have looked good, but it didnt feel so good! Suffice to say my front rotors are looking a bit soiled! That said the braking performance of the carbotechs is special. I wouldn't go back to the MX72s for track use.

Gibbo, it was good to meet you albeit briefly. I did an 11.7 stock. The difference will definitely be the launch. You really do have to "sidestep" the brake as the revs start to slow towards 3300rpm (while boost is still building). To get 3300 rpm I find I have to stomp on the loud pedal as if it were a cockroach heading for my gym bag! I also found that my car got quicker as the night got longer for three reasons: 1)temperatures got lower 2)fuel load got lighter 3) track got grippier. In fact I've got to the stage on the strip where I know more or less what my time will be based on the launch alone. If you hear a small chirp of the tyres as you release the brake, you're on. I'm going to go back to the drags when the weather gets cooler, put in some octane booster, dial up 20 pounds and have a crack at a mid ten. White 35 is also keen to come, we'll let you know when we are going. The Twilight was a great night but I do have some questions of White 35. How can a car putting out identical power (detuned for track), with front and rear sway bars, with a driver that weighs 75 pounds with his clothes on, get done by the red version without sway bars and a driver weighing 220 pounds? I suppose its true....red ones really are faster!

White 35 and I have just returned from the Twilight Track Day put on by the circuit club. What a great event. 6 x 20 minute sessions after work including night driving. We were both using stock wheels and rather used road tyres. I managed to crank out a 1:46:04 and White 35 did a 1:46:68. Not bad for stock wheels and tyres. Cant wait to set some times with slicks. Can highly recommend this format to anyone looking for a midweek speed fix.

Minimum $12k t0 $20k 0.8 doesn't sound like a big improvement does it! Its still a 22% improvement. Power went from 295 atw to 401 atw. The torque improved by bucketloads as well. It feels so different to drive compared to a stocker. That said for a few bucks you could still get a cobb and mid pipe and do a 3.3 second 0 - 100 and an 11. 3 quarter mile or better. You certainly dont need all the gear I've got to get good gains.......but boy its fun.

Thanks guys, some excellent pointers here, I'll let you know what I find. Duncan, you are clearly a fan of the 18's, and they obviously work well for you - whats the key reason you went with 18s? Tyre availability?
-
Sydney, northern beaches.

White 35 and I are awaiting delivery of our Volk RE30 rims and are interested to know if anyone has had experience with 19 inch slicks or semis. They are the rage in the US, and I know a number of you have opted for 18s here. We know there are Hoosiers and Toyos, is anyone aware of any other options?

Before mods my car was capable of: 0-100 3.7 0 - 400 m 11.7 After mods: 0 - 100 2.9 0 - 400 10.8 Its my daily drive, and I literally drive 17km in peak hour to work every day. If I put it in auto and just cruise it is totally ok to live with. If I want I can turn it into a loud angry beast at the push of a button or two. The Dunlops are about two seconds quicker around Oran Park than the Bridgestones (ask White 35), the aftermarket pads transform the braking experience. To honest when I get in a stock R35 now, it feels quite lacking in personality. And there is a big difference in acceleration. Just do it!
-
Cheers, yeah it was pretty good on the Go-to-whoa, would have been a lot quicker in the dry though!!! Whilst you could argue the combination of weight, no handbrake, and no clutch led to understeer, it would be more accurate to blame the driver. It was my first time in this sort of event, and I was just learning the ropes. We did a couple of runs with no specific course, and I managed to get the thing humming, but it will take a fair bit of practice to nail those tight courses. Anyway, I highly recommend the event.

I should also add that the HKS dump pipes make a huge difference to the personality of the car ,check out the texiskids thread to hear it....it really does sound different to cars with standard midpipe mods only.
