  1. What a load of crap; this is all about destroying the aftermarket industry. All consumers will be able to do is have their car serviced by the manufacturer; using exorbitantly expensive OEM parts, fitted by overpriced service centres. And once the manufacturer has determined that they aren't going to support that product any longer, you'll have to throw it away; like a broken refrigerator. It's the first step on mandatory programmed obsolescence of everything we own. Once all the non-dealership mechanics are gone; do you think servicing cars will get cheaper? NO f**kING WAY. The are trying to guarantee continuing revenue streams; but they want to lock in every step of the process. How it looks, how it goes, how much it costs to run, how much it costs to maintain, who you can engage to do it; and finally, how long you can use it for. The carmaker will own your car (and you) from the moment you purchase it until the moment they decide to switch it off, and force you to buy another. And our governments are already supporting this control of consumers.
  2. It's good that they did that for you; but in my experience in NSW this is a pretty standard charge. Over here, it's pretty normal to pay $90 just for a wheel alignment. Even just the removal of the old, and install with no adjustment on a set of coilovers would take at least 1.5hours, and at the average $90-$120 p/h that's still a decent expense. Adjustment would be at least another hour on top, so I still stand by my estimate.
  3. Mishimoto is the pick tbh; koyo do an aluminium high performance version; but at $550 its significantly more expensive. The Mishimoto will have to come the US, but is excellent quality.
  4. It was almost unrecognisable as helpful advice, and easily identified as an uneducated rant. Your informed debate on turbocharger life bears no resemblance to the reality of Stagea turbocharger ownership; especially NM35's. Turbos on this particular car routinely fail between 100000 to 160000km. The Japanese service schedule actually requires replacement of the turbo at the 10000pkm service. This could certainly not be misconstrued as "The life of the vehicle". Using excessively low viscosity oils in such a close tolerance engine is also a very bad idea. Assuming you know how these engines behave based on previous experience, routinely ends in tears with this particular engine. There are a number of people in this forum who can be trusted implicitly, as their knowledge is absolutely second to none; I wouldn't be following yours based on what you've said so far.

  8. Do a massive jump, and hope you don't land on a pointy building. That normally switches it off in my experience.
  9. You can actually see the fractured solder joint on the far right of the 3 pins.
  10. Look at the pic; the three pins, in a straight line at the very top of shot. They are the ones that need resoldering.

  15. The clip at the back of the rail pushes toward the front of the car to release. I don't believe they bolt on, but a panel shop would be my port of call if you really want to know. Pay them a few bucks to remove; once you know how, putting them back on should be a snack.

  19. There's the expectation that you would only be utilising a trusted repairer for a job like this. I'd no more trust a dodgy panel repairer, than I would a dodgy mechanic with any of my cars. Over the years I've cultivated a healthy relationship with my repairer, and that's why I had no hesitation with them undertaking such an extensive repair. Shell was very doubtful that they could repair it completely, so he invited Shell & I down to see the car when it was completely stripped of the damaged structure. He then hung all the structural members on the shell in front of her to demonstrate how straight the body was.
  20. Terry, when Shell's car got hit a few years ago; LMSR replaced the entire RHS of the car. Both doors, B pillar, cant rail, sill panel, rear quarter/C pillar new rhsr strut, hub and rim. There was nothing on the entire side of the car. Every panel Bill removed, the straighter the shell became. Set up on their table the shell was perfect. Rebuilt, they reckoned that it was better than it was brand new. 12 months later; I'd defy anyone to pick the repairs. More than 6 years down the track we haven't had a single issue with the repairs or even with the way the car wheel aligns. Done right; it will be perfect.
