  1. I buy them through a local tyre place, and they will match the Imported price on Australian stock. Which ends up about $200 per tyre fitted/balanced. I've had both import and Australian delivered; I couldn't tell the difference. Plenty of places on fleabay will freight them, but do the ring around; most of the time you can find them fitted/balanced locally for within a few dollars of freighting, then trying to get a shop to fit them for you.

  3. 245/45/18 is a much better size than the 50 profile you're looking at. The 50 profile will have miles too much sidewall. As a bonus; it is standard size for VE/VF Commodores, so prices a sensible, and they're easy to get. It reduces the speedo error from around 9-10% to around 3%, which is also useful. I'm running 245/45/18 Khumo KU31's and have done for years. They are quiet, wear well, and have good grip; wet and dry.

  8. R34 GT-t calipers & rotors are a great budget brake upgrade; and they bolt straight on. Like STRAIGHT ON. For an extra (pretty dubious) 14mm of swept area it isn't worth the trouble. Dogbones on R33 GTS-t calipers are an ugly solution to a problem that doesn't really exist. Save your money.

The best P plate car is not the one with the most power, so that you can introduce the rear of it to every gutter and front yard of every home in your street; as you live out your initial D fantasies, with your lowest common denominator skillset. The best P plate car is the one that allows you to get off your P's with your license intact, you and your mates all still alive, and with the bare minimum of accidents due to aforementioned lack of skills. Get something cheap, light, moderately powered and fun to drive, then spend some money actually LEARNING how to drive properly on track, so that you can make the most of a decent car; once you have matured a little and learned how to properly assess and manage risk, and the pressure of your peers. You don't want the first mistake you make (and I promise, you will), to be your last.

  14. That's the exact reason why all trucks (in Australia) are legally required to have a "load step" as the rearmost point of trailer or load area. It isn't required in the US and causes hundreds of deaths with cars submarining under the trailer. The first thing that stops the car is the rear set of wheels; and the passenger cabin is already under the trailer, and the driver is missing their head.

  17. My Stagea was vandalised in a carpark in my suburb, carved down to the undercoat on D/S front and rear quarter. The rear is 1½ feet long. I still don't have the heart to repair it. With the other few marks on the car, it would probably be worth respraying the whole thing.
