Right now would be the best time to roll the guards IMO; soft paint is going to be much more forgiving. -

It is a bit of an epic if you don't get the timing of each step right, but a bit of practice gets it done. You'll like the HID's. -
Hyundai I40 Tourer Make An Impression
Daleo replied to sammygee's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I think you've missed the point of my post, I wasn't criticising the power that they make; I was merely observing that with a larger capacity engine it could be a properly quick car instead of just average. You aren't going to get people out of big sixes & eights with "Adequate". I'm a car guy; give me a diesel wagon with the punch to make me pay attention, I might just buy one. For the missus. From a design point of view they are quite impressive and creative; their quality is excellent. In fact, we were looking at a Veloster for my missus, right up until I saw this dopey piece of lowest common denominator advertising; Hyundai are so confident that no-one in their target market rides a motorbike that they have no problem demonising us and implying that we're something that you need to keep your family safe from. They are quite happy perpetuating an idiotic stereotype, and justifying the public opinion that motorcyclists are inherenly risk takers, therefore deserving of drivers disdain and poor treatment. When I questioned them about this on their FB page; the glib insulting reply that I received left me gobsmacked. They actually informed me that the bike rider was being portrayed as a jackal; not as a dog, which is what I had assumed. Hyundai will never get a single cent of my money; they can get f**ked. -

The question you have to ask is; if you can get 320nm of torque and 1500km per tank from 1.7l, Why wouldn't you make it 2.2l or 2.4l with a wide ratio box, & actually have a car that goes fast AND gets good fuel economy? -
Koyo is the OEM; very high quality product. Priced accordingly. More than one person on this forum would disagree with the opinion of your mechanic.

Nonocoating Would It Be Useful Inside Your Engine?
Daleo replied to GD51LA's topic in General Automotive Discussion
That particular product is by all accounts not very robust at all. Heat, and any light abrasion basically ruins it. It's perfect for youtube clips though. There are specialist coatings available that will hold oil, repel oil, and any number of other unique properties. Anti scuffing, heat retention, heat reflection; the list goes on. People think they are awesome, until it comes time to pay for the surface preparation, and specialist application & curing of the products. As Alex says; Motorsport is where you see these products in all their glory, as they can easily justify the cost/benefit ratio. -
But in your build list there are clearly parts that you BOUGHT! Shouldn't you have set up a factory with multi-axis milling machines, lathes, chroming and anodising facilities and made you OWN coilovers and suspension arms? I put it to you; that YOU are the sucker. It may also come as a surprise to know that most people can't knock up a CAMS approved rollcage in their garage, and I'd bet dollars to donuts; neither can you. But you keep on insulting people that supported a local business...

J, sounds like the mechanic is a bit of a dope. It won't have done any damage; it just changes the stroke of the shock. I'm assuming you paid him, why not get him to do what you asked? They are at the top, but my concern is this; If you don't know what to adjust, it may be better, and much safer, to leave it to someone with more experience? Get the car up on some stands so you can look at the job; then decide whether you are confident. It's not difficult, but you will need to take some accurate measurements to ensure you get it right. On top of this; a decent height change WILL alter the toe setting, so I'd advise at least getting the alignment checked. It might be easier to just let Pedders do it. -
I think pressing the shaft out of the wheel bearing is the straw that breaks the camel's back (so to speak) on bearings right at the end of their life. Amayama is the best source for replacement bearings; buy a pair & make it worth the postage.

Have you had the CV boot replaced recently? Mine failed after it was disturbed when I had the CV repaired.

South Australian Stagea Cruises ! Thing Of The Past?
Daleo replied to 4bidn1's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
There were a few false starts with the last NSW cruise; but the thing that really helped with this one (IMO anyway) was really good route organisation and a formal lunch venue which required a small (think $10) financial commitment. Everyone knew where they were going, and were really looking forward to lunch at the other end. Family & time constraints are a bit B.S. to me; everyone has kids/dogs/houses/sockdrawers to organise, that's life. They're excuses, not reasons; to put roadblocks in the way of things you want to do. Clear the roadblocks from your life for ONE DAY, and meet up with a bunch of mates with a common interest. We had people from all stage(a)s of life; kids, and all. -

What Have You Done To Your Stagea Lately?
Daleo replied to Hanso's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
We have HPX in our daily; the bed in is critical. They seem very susceptible to overheating during bed in; this draws the pad bonding materials to the face of the pad.All of it was done without going over 60km/h, 10 stops down to 10km/h; no squeaking or squealing. People think because they're a quasi "performance" pad, that they need to be bedded in at 4 billion km/h and until fire is pouring out through the spokes of the rims. If they've been overheated in bed-in, they may bed salvageable; but they may not be. Chamfering the pads may help, as may lubing shims, etc. The combination of HPX pads & DBA rotors seems to present this issue more often than other combos, but I don't think it is an incompatibility issue per se. -

Lol, didn't mean to tell you what to do; I'd imagine insulating a shed is probably pretty low down the list of priorities... It is nice though... -

Loving the man shed there Mat! Before you fill it up too much, get some insulation in the walls and ceiling; and sheet it. Doesn't have to be perfect, but it makes a difference! Colourbond garages are either freezing cold or boiling hot; insulation is cheap. -
You'd be better removing the lines & getting your local performance brake shop to replicate them in Braided line; it's not as expensive as you might think.
-
Yep, fair call Tim. I'm amazed at the number of people who do it with no intention of buying. They are also the first to complain when the local supplier isn't interested in helping when they have a warranty type issue. Cheers, Dale

I'm not a great believer of taking advantage of shopfront businesses to make online purchases. If you are buying online you shouldn't be taking advantage of local businesses to use as a "fitting room" for your online purchase. They spent time with you, and yet you had no real intention of buying through them. They saw you as a potential customer, and treated you as such. Imo, the savings from buying online, come with an element of risk; people want the prices, but none of the risk. If I buy online, I do all my own research and if I get it wrong its on my own head, but if the saving is significant, it is worthwhile. I don't believe you can have it both ways, but I guess its more of an ethical argument than anything.
