point of leak vs gas valve is quite different. then again. a lot of factors. I've thrown butane gas canisters into a bbq fire, and no big happy fireball, we were disappoint, the resultant rupture of said gas can, also put out our fire. then again, an entire evacuation of 200g of gas, is quite different from a leak too.

heat of expansion or the energy required to expand the gas at point of leak would make it too cold to light.
