I second old airport road, lau par sat is predominantly a tourist trap. There are heaps of tze char stalls at old airport road that do decent black pepper crab too. But my fav stall at old airport road is chuan kee satay, get the pork satay, and be prepared to wait, but so worth it. There's also singaporean banana fritter, called goreng pisang (its supposed to be pisang goreng, but whatever). Try it.
