    Servicing Fees

I would have thought increased oil temp would reduce viscosity and therefore reduce oil pressure. Oil pressure is usually managed by a regulator/bypass system when oil is cold and by engine clearances when engine is hot.... Also how would reducing the oil level reduce oil pressure short of reducing it so far the oil pickup doesnt "pick up". Which I hazard would create a catastrophic reduction in oil pressure. My only concern with reducing the oil level is the risk of oil surge under hard braking/cornering. However I cannot imagine running the car at the H level will create excessive windage that will aerate the oil. I imagine the Nissan engineers looked after that with good sump baffling etc. I'd always erron the side of more full than more empty...I'm sure Martin could shed some light on this topic...
  2. I had it set on RRR and let the car do the shifting. It was just the one run using RaceChrono software on my Nokia N95 with a Qstarz BT-Q890 nano 66 Ch 5Hz GPS receiver. It was 3.84 secs to 100 kph and the road was a bit dusty which may have helped, maybe not. Can't really tell but it spun a bit more than usual off the line but didn't bog as much as a result. I stalled it a bit but not fully to 3000 rpm so again maybe theres a bit more to be had..
  3. Totally stock. Driver only, full tank. Launch at approx 2200 RPM.
  4. 11.89 @ 194 kph ADM
  5. Thanks for that. I guess thats what they're getting at. Other than overflow perhaps it pays not to have engine overfull to avoid aeration of oil maybe from crank windage? And only leakage to be overly concerned about would be brake fluid anyway.... A bit of a mess around my PS filler isnt going to bother me too much even if it was to occur! Out of interest have you bled the brakes afterwards? Used the standard fluid? What alternatives has anyone used? Cheers David
  6. Can anyone who's tracked their car fill me in on what levels to reduce the fluids down to? Manual says engine oil to 10 mm below H mark. Powersteering to R mark. But no mention of the brake fluid however on a separate thread about servicing costs there was an item listed which was reduce brake fluid level at the pre race inspection. Cheers

Considering the 10K service is an oil and filter change with a few "inspections" seems a bit steep to me even when we're not talking trans fluid change...... Would love to know what they charge for oil. I used to supply my own oil to the Subaru service dept, save money and still get a better oil than what they would have been providing.
  8. The most common I've had about the GT-R: "Looks way better in the metal than in pics". (Almost every time someone I know has seen it). Chased down a black Aston DB9 the other week thinking it was my neighbour. Turns out it wasn't but as soon as I pulled alongside the guy winds his window down and asks if it's the new GTR. He them proceeds to tell me how he bought theAston for his missus because SHE likes the way they look and that he thinks the GT-R is "porn"! Thats something coming from a guy sitting in an aston with his missus in the drivers seat. He then goes on to say that he's not even gonna bother taking me on. Good thing considering we were in Hutt Street in the city! So I think that says it all about the auro the GT-R has on the street.
  9. Thanks John, I just re-read it and realised I misunderstood what was written. I thought he had paid stamp duty in Vic and then had to pay it again when he transferred the car to Qld. The previous owner had paid the last lump of vic stamp duty not Sammy-qld. David
  10. Am I reading this correctly? You paid stamp duty AGAIN when you transferred a car from state to state? I have never heard of this. Martin or Munro you might be able to shed some light on this because you both transferred your 35s from NSW to SA. Ive sold cars to WA and registered in SA first so that the new owners could save on the highWA stamp dutyrates. They only got charged transfer fees and plate fees to reg in WA.
  11. I agree with Jeff completely. This problem can be driven around but it takes time to do so and not what you need when doing a rushed three point turn!
  12. Normal outer suburban driving (40% 70kph+ roads, 2 km typical traffic light separation) averages between 12.0 and 13.0 l/100km with approx a full throttle blast to 100kph every 10 km. Inner city stop start traffic gets me about 15 l/100km. Open road at 110 kph is around 11 l/100km. Taking a mate for a blast around suburban streets showing him what it can do in that environment......20+ l/100 km. Oh and my fuel consumption readout reads between 0.5 and 0.9 l/100 km better than what the consumption really is. Can this be recalibrated using any aftermarket device or perhaps would Nissan be able to do it? Just needs a tweak of around 7%. David
  13. Having driven AWD soobies on tracks for the past 9 years I've found that an AWD requires a significantly different technique to RWD cars primarily because of the inherent bias towards understeer. Main differences Ive found are that in an AWD: 1. Trail braking can help get the back sliding on entrance to the corner helping the car point better towards the apex. 2. A "jerk" on the wheel sometimes has to be used to unsettle the rear end so that the car starts to slide allowing you to straighten the wheel and "drift" into the corner again helping it to take the pressure off the front tyres and allow it to turn in. 3. Oversteer can sometimes be corrected by actually putting the boot in and pulling the car straight. (Complete opposite of what youd do with a RWD) 4. A RWDs rear tyre slip angle can be controlled easily by putting more power on or removing it. This is not possible in Subarus, (especially the ones without the electronicdiff), but may be possible with the GT-Rs RWD bias. 5. U can use lift off oversteer tendencies as a tool in certain tight esses to help set the car up for subsequent sudden changes in direction. (Same principle as in 1 above). haven't taken the R-35 out yet so Its a whole new learning curve....
  14. Im worried about opening my mouth here but here goes FWIW......... The reason people spend $150K on the W427 or $790K on the "race" monaro is exactly the same reason people drop $20K on a vintage Grange, (wine that is, not HSV ). It's not because they want to drink it but in the (sometimes vain) hope that someone will pay more for it down the track. The W427 is not worth $80K more than a GTS if you were only talking about driving experience bang for bucks especially with such a wonderful selection of aftermarket gear out there for these vehicles. However if the $150K W427 sells for $250K in 5 years while my R-35, or E55 or M5 sells for $70K, guess what? The W427 was worth every penny! As as stated so eloquently earlier a car is "worth" what someone is prepared to pay for it. The majority of these cars which people drop funny money on is purely financial speculation. And given the economic climate were in I think many may have done their dough.....

    Newbie

Hi Nick, Saw yours in there when I had mine in for some minor checks on the Thu before you took delivery. It was also sharing the workshop with an Ivory Pearl one. Now there's 5 gunmetals going around adelaide. Finally some anonymity! Mind you Im getting all my friends saying hey I saw you on such and such road but couldn't catch you to say hello! I'd always reply, nope, mustn't have been me, I always drive to the speed limits Look forward to seeing it on the road. I know the (custom), plates of all the others so yours should hopefully be obvious.... Cheers David
  16. Make that another Electronic Eng on here, (with a gunmetal 35), as well guys and I'm happy to assist when you get into the guts of the AV system. Oh and I just had a look at a JDM display and is it just the font or is the resolution of it better than on the ADMs? David
  17. Theres already 5 Gunmetals in Adelaide out of approx 9 ADMs and 2 JDMs on SA streets. No 5 was getting predelivery at Main North on Thursday...
  18. John, Just PM 70RTY (see the thread on him buying the JDM) because he said he managed to access the SD slot.
  19. Hi all, I've just had my R-35 Gunmetal GT-R for a month now and joined SA a few weeks back before I took delivery. I've owned Subaru's previously namely one MY00 WRX and 4 STi's since 1999 and took the plunge on the GT-R after seeing the latest incarnation of the STi when it came out almost 2 years ago. I have sprinted at Mallalla quite regularly and also contested many Motorkhanas held by the Porsche Club SA but am having second thoughts about doing the same with the Nissan given the onerous restrictions on maintaining the warranty. It's a daily driver travelling about 60 kms a day so I'm going to enjoy it and not leave it hidden away in a garage. Love getting the thumbs up and smiles from Skyline owners and people in totally unrelated vehicles. I can't get over how loved and recognised the car is. The car will remain stock at least until the warranty is over, then who knows..... If u see me around please say hi. Cheers David
  20. Hi Munro, Thanks for the PM. Yes I'm keen to catch up when u have yours but I cannot reply to your PM because I haven't posted 10 times yet!! Send me an email address via a PM and I'll be in touch. Cheers David
  21. I have not timed mine yet using GTech or equivalent but had a few races against my brother's 997 911Turbo, Auto, (the faster one), with overboost engaged. (680Nm instead of 620Nm for 10 seconds). Carried out on a closed track. Using walkie talkies to countdown to the start made for a very unscientific starting process and each of us would win the start on different occasions making for some varying results. 1) 911 stalled to approx 2000 with gentle throttle and GT-R stalled to 2500 with partial throttle. 911 won start by a car length, (due to me napping at the get go), GTR had passed it by 100 KPH and was a car length ahead at 150 KPH. 2) Same conditions GTR won start and pulled ahead by 2-3 car lengths at 150 KPH. 3) Both cars launched with no brakes whatsoever, just floor the accelerator. GT-R leapt ahead by 2-3 car lengths and pulled away steadily. 4) 911 stalled to 2100 RPM with throttle floored. His boost rose to 9 PSI before we even started moving... GT-R again stalled "gently" to 2500 RPM so no "pre" boost to speak of there. I napped again at the start, or perhaps he cheated!! Lost start by 2 car lengths and maintained gap to him to around 100 KPH but did not reel him in at all. I had 1850 kms on the clock, his car 10,000 kms. All my tests were done with VDC set to race and Suspension to comfort, in Auto with trans set to race. I didnt disengage VDC and it still allows the revs to rise to over 3000 RPM so why bother disengaging it? VDC in race mode does not cull engine power if traction is lost. I didnt have the fortitude to do a 3000+ RPM launch with both pedals floored......yet
  22. Stamp duty in WA is waaay higher than other states. Around 6% I paid $167100 in SA Gunmetal non premium
  23. I'd say depreciation and insurance costs would be bigger cost items than losing the warranty.
  24. Has anyone had a look at the option of installing non run flat tyres on the GT-R? A tyre fitter friend of mine told me that now days the rims are universal and can mount both run flat and non-run flat tyres. Given that run flats only give you an 80km range once punctured and even if you find yourself within 80 kms of a town in rural Oz whats the chances of their tyre shop having 20" run flat tyres in stock? I don't like the idea of having to take an overnighter if I ever get a flat somewhere away from home. My brother's 911 has non run flats and a can of that goop that you inject after getting the flat and you use a compresser to reinflate. Besides that, his tyres are repairable in contrast to the run flats in which every puncture will cost you $800+ for a new tyre. I had a chuckle reading the Nissan manual where they state that run flats cannot be reused after being removed from the rim even if they aren't punctured!!! Single fitment tyres, what next?...... I know Pirelli makes a non run flat P Zero in the required sizes and I think Michelin may as well. Does anyone else? What about these Toyos that are on their way? Are they run flats as well? Oh and please..no smart alec remarks about my warranty being voided if I go down this path thanks!
