On the ongoing saga of why my front wheels clatter and click when turning and Nissan HPC in SA saying that is a problem they can't fix and to just to live with it. I'm starting to wonder if its the floating type brake rotors that's the root of the problem... If so why can't we disassemble the "Mclaren" style anti rattle pins securing the rotor to the hat? The manual says it's a non serviceable part and Nissan HPC reiterated that to me saying even they cannot disassemble them. They've cleaned the mating surface between the back of the hat and the hub and that fixed the problem for a week. I suspect that wasn't the actual source of the problem and just playing around with the bits concerned alleviated the problem for a week before it returned. Im starting to suspect that the "anti rattle" springs used to mount the rotor to hat aren't so anti-rattle and this may be where the problem stems from. Seems odd that they don't even recommend that if you disassemble the parts that you reassemble with new pins, springs etc and just re loctite them..... Has anyone pulled their rotors off their hats?

Where do they get off on that price? What are your options you mention? When I bought it was $148800 for the base car, ($4K more for premium) plus $10K dealer delivery and $6K for stamp duty and rego. Total around $165K. Then there was a $7K price rise and then another $3K when the MY10 model came out. All up another $10K. This would push the base to $175K on road and the premium to $179K. Silver paint would add some more but not $9K! Sounds like they're getting a bit carried away when in 12 months the car has gone up $20K on road...

I have seen the wing up close and have spoken to the owners of it. It does have a lot of play in the system and does move significantly when even slight force is applied to it. For all your talk of the cable technology used by Porsche et al in actuating these wings, I just made the simple observation that I grabbed the wing and wobbled it and the simple play in the pivot points etc allowed it to move from memory around a whole cm up and down at the rear. Yes the wing itself is stiff but the assembly as a whole is loose and I'm not sure how much of this play can be removed. Perhaps the example I saw had not been installed or set up correctly. I don't doubt its structual integrity at 320 kph. I'm just commenting on how wind buffet does makes the wing oscillate at highway speeds in the example I have observed up close. Your picture of the Panamera wing clearly illustrates my point about how a factory active wing on the GT-R would need to be significantly more integrated and of higher "quality". By quality I'm not talking about the grade of your aluminium or the carbon fibre or the fact you use titanium. I'm just passing a comment on the overall impression of quality that the wing imparts due to the issues commented on above. That's where my bum pluck of $15K comes from. I'm not saying your wing costs that much. I'm just saying thats probably what a wing would add to the cost of a car if integrated to the level of the Porsche examples youve shown. That is what Nissan would have had to deal with in their decision to not go down the path of installing an active wing on this car. My first post simply stated that the standard wing is a balance between drag and downforce and that Nissan could have gone for a mega wing, even an active design but then the car would not have achieved other design objectives such as top speed, cost, fuel consumption etc. And as far as the active nature of the wing reducing the drag/downforce problem, where have I disagreed with this? All I said was; "So short of the car costing, (just a guess), $15K more just for the sake of the "low-compromise" adaptive wing you will always suffer from the drag/downforce tradeoff. Thats why Nissan did not overlook this fundamental performance enhancing adjunct and that the standard wing is not "rubbish". Thats the comment I was addressing. Not that the Aeromotions design cannot provide extra downforce without commensurate drag...." I'm just commenting on my observations. Anyone who sees this wing up close would draw the same conclusions. I think your wing is a brilliant product for the money. All I'm saying is that if Nissan went for an active wing design it would have cost significantly more than what your wing costs and would be of a far more integrated design. Hence would have added a hell of a lot more to the cost of the car and probably why Nissan didn't opt for this approach. This was all in response to the initial post I was responding to that indicated that Nissan was somehow overlooking what could have be achieved with a standard wing....Thats all.

All totally understood. I was talking about a fixed wing equivalent to the one the GT-R has already. I fully appreciate the advantages of the Aeromotions design. Short of a car like the Veyron, I haven't seen a factory wing that comes close to the functions of the Aeromotions wing and the cost and complexity of such a wing would have probably been out of the scope of the design brief for a car in the price range of the GT-R. For all of the Aeromotion's advantages Im pretty sure that an equivalent factory wing would have to be a lot more integrated and built to a standard that the Aeromotions cannot begin to match. For starters it would need to be hydraulically actuated and not flap around in the breeze at highway speeds. The cable operation with all the inherent play in the system is fine for a racetrack only application but starts to look a bit cheap and nasty in a road application. I don't think Nissan missed anything. They just went for the best balance. I'm sure carrying an aeromotions wing set for a fast lap around a tight circuit the GT-R wont get anywhere near 300 KPH on an autobahn. Economy would probably also suffer with that dragging behind you... Plus its a bit over the top styling wise

Quite the contrary. They'd be saying what a P.O.S it is for the money. This car can't win when everyones totally adversarial. Its crap because its too good and drives itself or conversely its crap because its just crap.....

Won't cause any probs other than your worn rears may not have as much traction as your new fronts making the car more biased towards oversteer and just may affect when VDC cuts in. Other than that the slight difference in diameter etc wont affect anything and TPMS definitely wont be affected. Nissan fitted two new fronts on mine and if it really did matter Im sure they would have changed all of them.... While on this subject, has anyone arrived at a wheel alignment setting for a daily driver that doesn't result in premature inside edge wear? Even at min neg camber, if I compensate by extra toe in all it does is just add wear to the outside in addition to the excessive inside edge wear. The middle of the tread remains untouched.... Is the only way to find some aftermarket means of reducing my front neg camber?

I was told by someone working at a Nissan Dealer that when he had the instrument panel disassembled on an ADM car he saw a USB socket in the loom. It just wasnt mounted on the cluster panel. Has anyone investigated this? If its non operational I wont bother digging it out but if it serves functions such as allowing us play music or update the gracenote database I will make the effort to pull my instrument panel apart and leave it accessible.

So did it have its service history when you saw it last at Damelian? And if so Im surprised Damelian would sell it unserviced if it was sitting at 10500kms when they let it go after all it's just an oil change they would have needed to do on it. If he bought it for $150K including SD he, (his finance company), didnt do that badly really. SD would have been around $6K and overall it lost $15K so the car itself lost $9K which considering its "transformation" in the past couple months could have been a lot worse.

Was it JDM or ADM? If ADM theres no launch control to worry about and honestly I think it's very hard to "abuse" these cars if driven on the street. It gets to ridiculous speeds so fast that it doesnt even raise a sweat when you are driving it in a way that other cars would be having their ring revved out of them. Thrash it "properly" continuously on the road and you will end up without a licence in short shrift or worse, dead. And if it was a premium and had bridgestones or a standard with dunlops then theres a good chance the tyres may have still been original. So thats not a good indicator of how it was driven either. My Dunlops lasted 18,000 street driven. Scratches etc are another thing altogether but all in all its very encouraging for resale isnt it?

Went to book my car in to Main North Nissan to fix my rattle/creaking front wheels only to be informed by the Asst Service manager that they have NO fix for the problem and theres nothing I can do except drive around with an embarrassing noise coming from my wheels on even mild turning now. I asked him if Nissan is happy with the situation that their premier model sounds like a 20 year old clunker and even causes heads to turn for all the wrong reasons when maneuvering around a shopping centre car park. He didn't seemed to perturbed by that idea. So what should I do now? Kick up a big stink with Nissan HQ and argue that if a camry made that noise they would definitely fix it and that I find it amazing that Nissan cant find a fix for something that clearly does not afflict every GT-R out there? Do you think its concern that if it is brake related that they are up for the whole shebang 4x rotors and pads if thats what it takes to fix it? Id at least have a go at the anti rattle clip solution, i mean what have they got to lose? Thoughts please?

Not sure how you arrived at that figure. Without stuffing around with net present value calculations all you do is add the first payment and residual so say $150K. Then add the $12000 worth of instalments. So even without the interest component being taken into consideration it's $162K plus ORC. As I said earlier, interest on the outstanding $80K over less than a year is less than $5K.

Less than that in present value dollar terms. You need to take the interest thats factored into the payments into account. Deduct approx $4-5K. And stamp duty is also dependent on the state you're in.

After the abysmal performance of the City Performance GT-R in last years Hot Tuners competition in Motor Magazine, will perhaps Willall or anyone else provide a GT-R this year to show them how it's supposed to be done? From memory, last year's entrant had around $50K spent on it and due to the owner being concerned about his car being abused it gave a poorer showing than a standard car would have! Even just a midpipe equipped remapped car with the Dunlops fitted should definitely show last years winner a clean set of heels....

You're reading it the wrong way. Acceleration and braking are along the Y axis and lateral acceleration is along the X axis.
