Who has bought or sold a skyline in 2003
Dominic replied to Dominic's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
What state your in also matters. Remember Sydney and Melb are bigger markets. But guys this thread is not about degrading skylines. Its about putting some common sense into the deal. If someone advertises there car for too high or low a figure, it impacts on all of us because it devalues our cars. And remember value is determined by what an able buyer is prepared to pay a willing seller. Not what a tight arse is prepared to pay a Fool. -
Im really confused how skyline prices seem to be all over the place. Ive seen an R34 GTR in stock trim with 64k sell for $48k and R32's with the works advertised for $65 k. I know all about condition of vehicle and extras etc but like WOW.. What a difference. Id love to see the prices of skylines remain stable or even increase so write down what you paid or sold your skyline for in 2003. So some suckers arent selling theres too cheap or worse advertising them at such a high price that people think Skylines are unsaleable. (thats what scared me off a skyline for a few years, I thought "if I buy one, Id never be able to resell it" as some guys advertised theres for 4-6 months every fortnight in the Trading Post) Ill start, 95 GTR Blue Near Stock 66k $32,250 Sydney August 2003 (Private sale) (had 3' exhaust) 1st Mod Ohlins height and damper adjustable coil overs WOW

Bought to install on my GTiR race car, this part was knocked back by CAMS as it gave the car an unfair advantage over others in my class. If you now want to buy this unfair advantage $350 and its yours. Remember an 80mm apperture allows two and a half times the airflow of a 50mm apperture. (pi x Rsquared) More air = more power $350 posted anywhere in Aust. [email protected] Serial Number 22680 30P00a36-000 N62

Make sure they are dead straight with no bumps or kinks in the body. The cost of repairing a slightly bent or bumped one is more than the value of the set and the quality of drive is unacceptable if they were accident damaged Go the widest (ie 50mm is better than 40mm) you can afford. decide if you want height or rebound adjustable or both. I see no value in height once you set your height to your setting thats it. plus everytime you adjust your height you must get a four wheel alignment. Look at good brands Worlds best are Ohlins and DMS. Then they go down all the way to brands that are worse than the OEM. make sure that the new price is not less than second hand price, Ive seen Teins advertised for higher second hand than new. I run top of the line Ohlins and think they are the ducks guts.

Yes you only need a level 2s licence: I dont think Id go for sticky tyres next year, Im going for better tread for the skid pan stuff (Save $1,600) The best way to get sponsors is to contact companies that you do business with. Dont expect someone that does not know you to give you money, esp not speed shops tyre co. etc. I prepare a package with pictures of my car and send them to people in charge of Companies that I know. In return for their tax deductible donation they get framed pictures of *their sponsored race car*. I ask for $1,100 per sponsor, which covers them for all the events I do each year. I can normally get $5,500 to $7,700. I also split the entry fee and accomodation down the middle as after all they are using my car, wheels, tyres, petrol, consumables etc. Strangely enough my co-drivers always seem to be able to wring more out of my car than I can. (Other peoples cars go faster syndrome)

Just a quick bit of advice. Do it with OTHER PEOPLES MONEY... I call on a few companies I know and ask them to sponsor my car for a rally at a fee of $1,100.00 incl GST. They get a tax deduction, some great promotional photos, a copy of a video and to brag that they have sponsorship of a race car. This year for two events i got Over $5,000, free pads and free rotors. (by the way expect 19 out of 20 to say NO) Th best deal is for $1,500 they also get to come for a spin of the Grand prix circuit How can they refuse. Just remember OTHER PEOPLES MONEY!!!

Guys, I think the ideal car for FATz would be my little GTI-R. It weighs two of me or three of fatz and I would have to cut a hole through the roll cage for his head to fit. Come to the Grand Prix rally day at my office in November and take it for a spin. Id love to stick in a photo but havent worked out this process yet.

I HAD A GREAT TIME. Pete I need some drinking and driving lessons.. It should be illegal to have as much fun as you did. heres my story A tough decision had to be made. Do I enter the 2003 Alpine Classic or the 1st NSW Dutton Rally. $400 worth of fun or $4,000 worth of frustration. So the Dutton we entered. Welcome to the world of prestige racing, my 1995 $30,000 GTR was totally outclassed by magnificent vehicles such as the $500,000 Gemballa modified Porsche Turbo 4WD. My "brake when I see the corner" and "take it easy" driving against the "win at all costs" skills of professional drivers such as Steve Burke and David Cuffe. Scrutineering was held at The Porsche Centre Sydney, where the surrounds exceeded the cars being sold. Competitors were each given a weather jacket, polo shirt and cap each. All meals were included which made for great camaraderie. Starting with a lush breakfast at the Norwest Hotel we made our way to Eastern creek where Driver and Co-driver had two runs each of a wet then dry Eastern Creek laps, the exciting figure 8 circuit and a difficult autotest on the wet skidpan. The Gtr went well except for a flat tyre and the one hour delay to have it fixed, a burst turbo hose, brake failure on turn 1 (due to an air pocket in the lines) the breaking off of the fuel lines (causing a tank of gas to be spilled on the track) the loss of a windscreen wiper at high speed on the track, the cracking of the front spoiler due to the flexing of high speed turns and other minor anomalies that are to be expected in a cars first outting. Cars such as the Gemballa, a number of GT-3s and purpose designed vehicles like the Mitsubishi Evo, Mitsubishi Mirage with Evo 5 running gear and a beautifully prepared Lancia Delta Integrale HF (WRC winner 87-92) shone in these events. Unfortunately the Mirage blew its engine after a few laps and a very kind fellow competitor allowed the driver to continue the event in his tow car (an XR8 utility). A WRX, three Skylines, assorted BMW's, the new Mini Cooper S, a capably driven 350Z, some Rx-7s and a few Falcodores made up the 50 entrants. In all events the driver and co-driver individually completed the course (twice in most events) After these events we made our way to Goulburn and dinner at a restaurant where sizeable trophies were awarded to the winners of the 6 events held during the day. The Lancia picked up two. Saturday started with a breakfast at the Goulburn workers club followed by a 45 minute drive to Sutton Road driver training complex where we utilised at circular track at high speed and a narrow winding circuit across a hill top. This was considered by many to be the high light of the event. After lunch we went to Goulburn Airport where an 800 metre sprint saw the supercars revel in flat out speeds well in excess of 220 kilometres an hour. The Goulburn Highway patrol driving centre was the afternoon venue for a few flat out laps in the dry and wet on high quality tracks that have never previously been used by the public. A twilight Motorkhana was held in the main street of Goulburn where a few hundred spectators cheered on the powerful cars trying to navigate the tight turns. Dinner was at the Club and trophies and awards were handed out including another for the Lancia and suprisingly some to the borrowed XR8 ute. It was obvious that some competitors had more on their mind than competing the following day as we were woken by the swearing of someone drunk who had fallen after trying to climb a downpipe at 3.15am, as he had left the keys in his unit and the balcony door open. The surprise of the morning was seeing the Mathew Freeman Lancia with 3 trophies mounted (using fishing line) to the roof top spoiler. If you got it flaunt it. After breakfast at the Club, we made our way to Wakefield where we had laps of the short circuit, the long circuit and the hill climb. Some spectacular fishtailing by the cheapest car in the event (a Mitsubishi Starion) put a smile on all competitors faces except the Skyline driver directly behind this joker. ME. A 3.00 pm finish allowed people to go home or attend the final presentation back at Goulburn All in all a great weekend for the $2,000 entry fee for two, plus accommodation, plus tyres, plus brake pads, plus petrol. Further details and full results on www.duttonrally.com How did I go? 3rd in class (but Im sure there were only two vehicles in my class!!)

I have used more than 20 types of tyres, pads and rotors on cars over the years and thought Id share some info after this weeks Dutton Rally. The best rotor I have ever used is the new Heat treated DBA Slotted disks. This surpasses the Brembo originals and even the Bradi Rotors that have sponsored me in the past. has any one else tried these. For motor racing, I found the galfer top level race pads superior to the Pagid Blues which cost $150 a set more. These are serious race pads and can not be used on the road (due to noise and cold bite problems) the mis level Galfers whilst heapes cheaper are no better than RB 74 or Bendix ultimates. The newly released Bridgestone RE55 as used by Duncan and Fats and myself in the Dutton are the stickiest race tyres I have ever used. BUT whilst cheaper than Dunlop, Yokohama etc, these race tyres are very soft with a short life and poor wet weather performance. I have fitted the Ohlins height and Damper adjustable suspension. If you love great handling without a neck breaking ride around town, this is better than HKS, Tein and on a PAR woth the top of the line DMS. Guys Im always interested in what others think is the best product, so let us Know, so no one make an expensive mistake and buys an inferior product.

Pete demonstrated exceptional driving skill in a competition filled with professional drivers ( Steve Burke and David Cuffe) and extraordinary Cars, Gemballa Porsche, race spec Evo, Gt-3's and a top R34 GTR with incredible acceleration. Watching pete do a motorkhana that was designed for clubmans or 4wd rally cars and getting a second place or his EXTREME late braking at the last turn at Wakefield were some of the highlights of this weekends Dutton. AND it all goes to prove, Yes beer not only makes you better looking,...but drive faster. To a pair of nice guys... Congrats on a great weekend, Club members you can be proud of these guys. (Convince Duncan to put up a pic of his SUPER TYRES after the event) To every one else, just save $20 a week to enter next years event.

Dont worry Duncan and Fatz, Ill be behind you too. Dominic's rules of Motorsport 1. Have fun 2. Drive the car home.

How do I turn Off?

Guys after having the R33 GTR for 6 weeks, I still dont know the process of driving (circuit racing) with the attessa. As I go into a corner the car seems to slide more than I expect. The traditional 4WD method is to then put the boot in and the car straightens up. This doesnt work on the GTR. The car seems to overcorrect causing a loss of a few seconds, especially on a hairpin (eg turn 2 Eastern CreeK) Any Ideas?? Also whats the button below the dash above my left knee. (it doesnt seem to do anything)

Guys, I have been approached by the Grand Prix Rally Organisers to hold a Sydney meeting to show interested people a video and give them a short presentation on the 2004 Grand Prix Rally. The morning starts at 10.00am on Sunday 26 October at 175 Briens Road, Northmead. There is no cost (and I am not being paid for it) If you're interested drop me a line as only 30 positions available and Ill show you some great footage and Ill wet your appetite for a great week away. (and teach you how to do it for free) Last two years this event has been won by a skyline so some great skyline footage is available.

As you guys may know, you are required to have 1 X 900ml fire extinguisher for supersprints and 2 X 1 kg extinguishers for touring tarmac rallies. (Interestingly neither require you to have a Roll cage) If you only attend these items rarely and still want to retain your car without extinguisher holes this is what I did: Buy a 1 metre flat bar of 25 X 3mm Aluminium $5.00 from Bunnings Cut it the length from front seat mount to front seat mount (about 47cm but measure first) Drill holes to coincide with front anchor bolts to the seat, then remove the bolts, fit the bar mark the position of the holes in the extinguisher mounts (must be steel, plastic no longer acceptable) Drill these holes out with a 4mm drill and use a pop rivet to mount the extinguisher to the bar. Mount bar (now with extinguisher mounted) to mseat anchors using the original bolts. It is now a two min job to install and remove the extinguisher when you need it. Dominic
