  1. I love reach arounds
  2. Hey guys, My mate has just bought a 1989 R32 GTST off a member on here which we are currently having some problems with. He has just had the radiator and all the heater hoses replaced, as well as a complete service. Now when he bought the car we noticed it was idling really high, at about 1300rpm. We didn't really think much of it, put it down to needing it's idle adjusted. He took it into his work one day (he is an apprentice mechanic for Western Power), and his work colleagues tried to adjust the idle stepper motor but it didn't do anything no matter how much they adjusted the screw. So they disconnected the AAC by disconnected the vacuum hose that goes to it and plugging up the hoses. This made it idle at the correct rpm, but it also started hunting when warm. The mechanic he took it to for the service had a look at it and suggested cleaning the AAC or possibly replacing it. So when we got it back i took off the AAC and cleaned it, put it back on and it still didn't work, if anything it got worse. So i drove it from my house back to my mates house (a good 20kms), and when you are accelerating it drives perfectly fine, no problems, boosts fine (although boost gauge reads 12psi so potentially overboosting?). But when on vacuum (cruising or decelerating), the car lurches pretty horribly. The car doesn't stall, although when it hunts (usually hunts between 1500rpm and 2500rpm) it sometimes drops so low that the car almost stalls, like the accessory lights (battery, oil, etc.) all flicker, but then the car seems to rev itself and it won't quite stall. We replaced the AAC today and used CopperMax to make a gasket, but the problems still persist. So my guess would be there is a vacuum leak somewhere? If so, would anyone be able to suggest where we start looking, or could it be anywhere in the engine bay? If not, what else could be causing this? Car is pretty much all standard, just has a full 3" turbo back exhaust (with split dump, which may be causing the overboosting?), pod filter, and now has a brand new alloy radiator. Any help would be very much appreciated, Thanks, Martin
  3. Don't get anything X-Force! Useless stuff. High-flow cats; Metal Cat have a pretty good reputation, as do Catco and CES Racing. But effectively i think if the insides are metal and not ceramic then it will be ok. I don't pay much attention to the flow ratings and things they have, there is very little truth in any of it, and it is very hard to pick the ones that are true. Have a read of the info on this page: http://www.metalcat.com.au/ Can't really recommend much in the way of mufflers, i'm all about cannons
  4. Manifold upgrade won't do anything, the restriction is after the turbo. There are plenty of quiet exhausts around, and if they are still to loud than just get another resonator put in along with a better quality muffler
  5. Yeh you can't get an adapter just by itself, i was talking about the Greddy Informeter Touch. My bad, should have clarified. The way Greddy outlined it to me when i emailed them was they provide you with the basic package, and if you want the CONSULT harness then you buy that extra and just connect it to the OBDII cable from the Informeter and then connect it to the CONSULT port. So effectively it is an adapter, but yes, the scan tool needs to be able to read CONSULT data
  6. P-platers are not full qualified drivers either. Something as simple as misjudging a gap should not be condemned as inability to drive, rather as a lack of experience. Do it once and you won't do it again. Hence experience.
  7. No, but inexperienced drivers should be given some slack. If you're an L-plater are you expected to know how to drive straight away? Or are you allowed to get better with practice? The purpose of P-Plates is to show that you are an inexperienced driver who might not react as you would expect in every situation.
  8. Yeh Skylines use Nissan CONSULT. You can apparently get adapters to connect an OBD cable to the CONSULT port but i just gave up on it, too much messing around. In the end i got an ARK MFD, wires straight into your ECU
  9. Probably didn't need it's own thread... But anyway, had a good laugh at some of the comments
  10. Probably best to PM Stao (username: hypergear), he would be able to tell you what is involved and what you need.
  11. Yeh i don't understand what happened
  12. This thread needs dragons There we go... Now it's hektik sik. Ur r33ly gud @ thr3ading broooooo
  13. Lol i also don't think you can grasp the immenseness of the fuck we do not give. Go ahead mate, do exactly what you say you are going to do, you know everything anyway so it is obviously going to work. Pity this thread is going to get closed soon, i'd love to see how very little you achieve.
  14. Lol because everyone here details their whole lives in their profile? Sorry mate, i imagine most of us are too busy actually doing things rather than sitting on a forum dreaming. Good stuff though, keep it up, definitely keeps me entertained. By the way, where do you work that pays you enough as an apprentice mechanic to spend that much money on a car as well as pay off a house? I call bullshit, you work at EBGames or Motoquip don't you? Unless you're talking about paying off the electricity bill at your mammas house?
  15. ... Permission to kick the troll while it's down?
  16. Didn't mean to put you off lol, i definitely think it's worth trying to organize, would be good to see some SAUWA representation. But if you don't get any interest, feel free to check out www.westcoastcruisers.com.au and enter up with us, we are always happy to meet new cruisers
  17. I'm organizing West Coast Cruisers entry. They aren't running club entries this year, everyone has to enter individually, but if you get in early then you can set up a group display or tent or what ever you wanna do
  18. Your wheels won't get hot enough to affect the paint. I've painted many wheels with 2pac and standard acrylic, it works fine if you do a lot of layers, but still no where near as durable as powder coat. Remember that your wheels need to withstand rocks being flicked up at a hell of a rate of knots. 2pac and single pac will chip off and once the original layer is exposed, the paint will just start to peel off
  19. No problem man
  20. PM dan_the_man, pretty sure he is the one that deals with merchandise like stickers and things.
  21. Haha ok good lol, yeh the emoticons probably confused me
  22. May have worded it wrong. I don't know the exact figure a stock turbo runs out of puff, but it does run out is what i am saying. Which is what i mean when i say psi is not everything you need to take into account. I didn't say anything about the exact same setups. Of course if the cars are identical then psi is going to make a difference, but that is because the turbos flow the same as well. Psi is psi, doesn't matter what turbo is making it. But 1L of air compared to 2L of air is different.
  23. AllStar Garage are my preferred tuners, they are incredible with most ECU's. At this stage i am leaning towards the Nistune because i know AllStar are great with them, and i know a lot more about them. I just wanted to find out more about Adaptronic because the unit is around the same price of a fitted and tuned Nistune, which isn't bad. If it is a better unit than Nistune then i would like to look into it more, but if not than i'll continue looking for a PFC or go for a Nistune.
  24. Street car, occasional track day. Probably around 270-300rwkw.
  25. Hey guys, I've done a search but didn't really find an answer to my question... I'm currently looking for an ECU for my R34 GTT, and the options i've narrowed it down to are PowerFC, Nistune, and an ECU i have only recently discovered, Adaptronic. My preferred option would be a PowerFC, but they are very rare for R34's, and the absolute maximum i would pay for one would be $1300 with hand controller. So i will keep my eye out for one right up until i purchase an ecu, but i have all but ruled out finding one completely. Now i had pretty much decided to go with Nistune as AllStar Garage quoted me $950 fitted and tuned, which seems like a good price. But then i discovered the Adaptronic e420c ecu, which from what i have read about it, seems like quite a good computer. This is the website: http://adaptronic.com.au/products/e420c.html Can anyone tell me a little bit more about the e420c and what all it can do, and how it compares to how good Nistune is and what Nistune can do?
