As i said before, it's very possible i got a shit batch of fuel, but it's never happened with BP which is why i choose that fuel. You can choose to doubt me if you want, doesn't bug me in the slightest what fuel you use. But having actually compared these fuels for myself, those are the results i got and those are the results i base my opinion on. No offense taken Greg, i was as baffled as you are and i still don't know how to explain it. That is just what happened and since then i have refused to use Peak

I know that. Which is why i said the few random moments of acceleration are not going to cause such a massive difference between fuel consumptions. I get 500-550kms to a tank of BP Ultimate if i drive casually. I get about 470-500kms from a tank of Vortex 98. And i get about 320-370kms to a tank of Peak 98. For me that shows the quality between the fuels.

I drive my car to uni, it is the exact same distance, speed limit and place every day of the week. Because it is a 108km round trip, i drive very conservatively, so don't put my foot down very much at all, usually change gears before 3k. Fine there might be the odd occasion where i go over and accelerate a bit harder, but that is not going to make 200kms difference to a tank of fuel. Fact is, my car get's less mileage out of a tank of Peak or Caltex than it does from BP. You can try to tell me otherwise but i am the one that drives my car, i know what it gets to a tank of fuel. They are not all the same fuel. You realise that in Japan, 98 RON is the lowest octane fuel they have? Therefore a JDM car should not be run on anything less than 98 RON, because it was not made to do so. Your Fords and Holdens and Hyundais etc. will all run fine on normal unleaded because they are made for it. JDM cars can be run on normal unleaded too no doubt about that, but just because it can be done doesn't mean it should. I like to make sure my car is healthy, part of that is making sure it has the right fuel in it. And there are plenty of cars out there running 900hp or other ridiculously large power figures, and they are doing it on pump fuel. If you car is tuned for it, it is perfect.

I know, that is when i use Vortex. I said in places where they don't have BP Ultimate?

Just be aware that this happened to me as well, i replaced the battery and everything was good for a couple of months. Suddenly my new battery is doing the exact same thing as the old one, and this time i know it isn't the battery because it is brand new. So just be on the lookout for signs and symptoms that it is happening again. Best of luck with it though, hopefully in your case it was just your battery

Sometimes because i'm in a place where they don't have BP, other times just to simply compare the fuels.

Hence why i don't like Peak. Went straight back to 500kms to a tank when i filled up with BP again. I wasn't driving aggressively or anything either. May have been a bad bit of fuel, i have no idea, but i've never had a problem with BP. For me it is tried and trusted. I've done my own comparisons and BP stands out. I'd rather pay the extra 5c p/L, or whatever the difference is at the time, for the piece of mind that what i'm putting in my car is healthy.

I beg to differ. Reasons have been pointed out in this thread already. Not all 98 fuel is the same. It may have 98 octane, but that is just the RON, there is more to fuel than that. My mechanic owns the Glen Forrest Caltex service station, he is highly into cars and is the only mechanic i trust my car with. I asked him what fuel i should be filling up with and he told me BP Ultimate hands down. That coming from the owner of a Caltex. Now I'm not basing my argument on that fact but it does still weigh in. I've driven with other fuels before. Vortex i don't notice a difference in performance but i don't get the same mileage out of it as i do with Ultimate. I've tested this numerous times, and be it absolutely hammering my car taking it up to redline or driving like a old woman, BP Ultimate comes out on top everytime, i get about 15-20% better efficiency with it. Peak 98 is shocking, i'll never use that again. Car drove like crap and i only got 210km's out of a full tank. I've never used Shell in my car, refuse to touch the stuff after it destroyed my dad's old car. Point is, you ask anyone that knows anything about fuel and cars, their recommendation is BP Ultimate. Sure it may be similar to other cheap fuels, but cheap Chinese performance parts are very similar to Japanese performance parts... Rule of thumb with cars, you get what you pay for.

The thing about 26's isn't just the displacement, they are a much better engine. I believe they have bigger bores than the other RB engines? Which allows them to achieve such a high redline. And they can also take a hell of a lot more power on stock internals. An RB25DET Neo starts to get risky and unreliable at ~350rwhp, where as an RB26DETT makes 320hp from factory... If you want huge power, go the 26. You will save a lot of money spending more on the 26 now, rather than spending more later trying to repair the other engines when they blow.

There is a reason BP98 is the most recommended pump fuel for high performance cars...

Hahahah i would have stuck my hand up if you had bought some nice co-axles, you will see what i mean about splits when you install them. My god they are frustrating

Hey guys, I need to know the correct procedure for tightening up the rear wheel bearings on my R34. I know it will be something like: "hand tighten and then back off a quarter turn", something similar to that but they vary between cars so i'm not sure if that is right. Thanks, Martin
-
Is he well priced though?
-
No way it will take more than one afternoon to do man, i did my install in a bit over two hours; including sub, two amps, rear 6.5" speakers, and front splits. Did it quite well as well if i do say so myself, nice and tidy.

Check the consolidated workshop thread dude, all of the garages in there are good. Personally i wouldn't have anyone tune my car except All-Star Garage, Sean is the best in my opinion. But they book out for weeks in advance, and for some minor fuel adjustment, any of the listed garages will be able to do it easily.
-
Would have volunteered to help myself, but splits annoy the hell out of me lol, vowed to never do that shit again. None of that stuff is very hard man, it's a straight wire-in job. The hardest thing is finding where to thread the amp cables through the firewall. If you can find a grommet then it is real easy stuff

Wow, racking up post count lol. Learn to use the multiquote function buddy

Good stuff, glad it's running ok now Definitely replace those wheels lol, they are shockers

Very true. If the battery is dying that could well be a symptom. Check the battery and alternator with a multimeter, make sure you aren't missing any volts between the alternator and the battery. If there are more volts at the alternator then there are at the battery, check your earth and positive wiring, could be a bad connection or corrosion. Alternator should be producing 14.2v while charging
-
How do you know the battery is on it's way out? Could be the alternator...
-
Well for some reason my mates R31 doesn't like BP ultimate at all. Causes lots of problems and he gets about 200kms less to a tank than he does with like Peak 95... Will have to see how it goes once it has the RB25DET in it
-
+1 ^ That is exactly how i understood it.

+1 Keep your car legal, it's not that hard. 15mm difference in height isn't even noticeable visually, but it is illegal. So just get your car raised 15mm, it will look exactly the same but will be legal. Not a big deal
