Changed the head gasket as in put in a new stock one, or put in an aftermarket one? -
Melted Connector (Plug) Due To Larger In Tank Pump [Pics]
Hanaldo replied to Ben C34's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
On a setup that can potentially see over 20a just in normal operating conditions, 10a wire is never going to cut it. Look at this: These pumps draw 15.29 amps just at base fuel pressure. Hence why Resse69's 10a wire burnt out. 8-gauge is not that big, it's your general sound-system size wiring. Not that hard to get around the car, in fact when I had amps and my battery in my engine bay I had three 8GA cables all running the same route and they were invisible. You don't want your wiring to be the weak point of any electrical setup, but especially not in your fuel system. As for wiring, that's easy. Use a horn relay with big terminals, and connectors to suit the wire size. -

Nice. I used to want a set of them. Then I started driving the Falcon. Tell you what, there is nothing else on this planet that can make you go from being in a perfect, happy mood to raging, baby-eating lunatic quite as fast as getting whacked on the head by the 15kg bonnet you trusted to be stable. -

Melted Connector (Plug) Due To Larger In Tank Pump [Pics]

All round. I'd use minimum 12-gauge wire, preferably 10-gauge, from the relays to the pumps. -

The setup sounds fine, just need to make sure you are running the right gauge wire. Does it look like this: 3mm 10a wire: Or like this: 8-gauge (round about 50a) wire: That 8-gauge wire is the absolute minimum I would feel comfortable running from battery to relay for a single pump. If I was splicing that wire into relays for 3 pumps I'd be using 4-gauge wiring, which would admittedly be overkill but wire isn't such a great expense that I feel the need to be stingy about it. -

Ah, well that would be roughly 8-gauge, in which case you'd be correct. Reese69 said he used 3mm 10a wire, so I'm assuming not 3mm2. -

No chance! Even just running that size wire from the relay down to the pump, at 70psi fuel pressure, one fuel pump will be drawing 16a. 3mm wire isn't gonna cut it. Then you definitely wouldn't want to be running that size from the battery to the relay, as Reese69 has discovered. -

Ah Woah, Yeh that's wayyyy too small. I'd be using 12 gauge wire as a minimum to the pumps, and 8 gauge minimum to the battery. The stuff you're using is what I use to wire gauges that don't draw more than half an amp haha. -

Nah. 150hp shot of NOS. It'd be easy. You can probably get a package deal for some NOS and stage 2 cams. Good times. -

Melted Connector (Plug) Due To Larger In Tank Pump [Pics]

10a definitely isn't big enough. The pumps draw 14a, that will blow the fuse in just normal operating conditions. 15a minimum, preferably 20a. -
There ya go, nice work mate

Well if you have a split in a pipe that is opening up at 10psi then that'd explain it. On my car I found a leak in my intercooler plumbing that started leaking at 11psi. It was only a small leak so it didn't stop me getting to 20, but it certainly made it take longer. I found it using a leak tester I made, seals off the intake system and then by pumping compressed air into it you can easily hear where any leaks are coming from. Much cheaper than a smoke test, and pretty much fool proof.
-
You definitely hear gate, even when it is plumbed back. Its just not as loud as a screamer obviously. Also totally confused as to what the op is describing, I think the 'sounds like a bov' thing just confused everyone. Something has happened that has made the car go from 20psi to 10psi, which to me sounds like a leak if the wastegate isn't opening. OP, have you tried using a leak tester? Or are you just poking your head around the engine bay to find the leak?
-
Well if your boost controller is set for 20psi and you're only hitting 10psi then you could well have a leak.
-
Other way around bud, VCT is on the inlet side only.

Good time to be running bigger fuel lines if the fuel system is on the list...

Yeh a part number would be great, I'll get one from Transeals so thanks for the tips Superben, thanks for the reply mate, I've got a pretty clear picture of what I can do with it so I'll order one just now. Cheers lads! -

Just a quick one on this, as I'll be buying and installing one of these pumps in the coming weeks to replace my GSS342; how are people running thicker gauge cable all the way to the pump? I've tried to look at the pictures of them, but I can't see properly how the wires connect to the pump. What gauge wiring do these pumps come with? One would assume that it is sufficient for their amperage draw, but I do wonder. Ideally I would like to run 8-10 gauge cable directly from the pump, up through a modified lid, then to a relay. Do-able? -
This doesn't sound right at all...

I had heard different... United say they have no immediate plans to expand from Armadale? Will try to find my source.
