  1. Do you know how to connect your laptop to the ECU via the CONSULT port? Do that, then go to file in NIStune and open your appropriate address file for the Stagea. Then siwtch the car onto IGN, and click the "CONSULT" button at the top right of the screen. Click ok to the dialog box that comes up. Once you've done that, there is a button at the top of the screen that has two arrows on it, from memory one is blue and the other is red. Click on that, then click on the button that says something like "Read data from ECU". The other one will say something about writing data to the ecu, don't click that one. Then go to file again and save the image file somewhere so you can send it to Jez. I THINK that is all correct, but it's been awhile since I used NIStune. Maybe just get on their website quickly and have a read of the documentation, it's all explained in there.
  2. Definitely clutch mate. Luckily you've got a 33 so it should have a push type clutch, cheaper to buy and much easier to change. If you can do it yourself then you can probably do it in about 2-3 hours on your shed floor with the help of a mate.
  3. It's really got absolutely nothing to do with that. f**k I swear people just find it easier to blame the government for every single thing, rather than actually try to find out about things. The sale of ethanol fuel in WA is regulated by the state government (a liberal party, just for you labour ney-sayers), as it is in all states in Australia. As of yet, the sale of ethanol fuel in WA is illegal under state regulation because of the Reid Vapour Pressure test which measures the volatility of fuels. We are the last state in Australia to still be using this method because hey... We're the nanny state. Our zimmer frame slows us down somewhat. The opposition government has voiced it's support for ethanol and other biofuels to be introduced here, but the liberal government is dragging it's feet about it. While I agree the current government isn't doing enough to change the regulations and bring in biofuels, it isn't such a simple issue. The federal government can't just force a mandate on us because there are a number of legitimate concerns about the sustainability and environmental credibility of ethanol fuels. The last I had heard, it had been proposed that a biofuel plant using palm oil should be built in Geraldton. The problem being that palm oil comes from South East Asia where they clear forests and destroy the habitats of a lot of animals such as orangutans in order to produce the oil. There are also concerns about the distortionary impacts, ie. energy output vs input, fuel vs food, etc. We also don't currently have the infrastructure here to produce biofuels from our own crops. A legal mandate would not be the best way to implement that industry, as the costs outweigh any benefits; we would see the introduction of 'last-generation' ethanol technologies to save on capitol costs and meet deadlines, which would in turn delay the commercialization of second-generation ethanol technologies that could have real benefits for the environment, the industry, and the economy. Rather the federal government has support schemes in place for biofuels to make it financially and economically viable to do, and I believe their intention is to increase those support schemes.
  4. You're getting a tune before you fit the turbo?
  5. Sorry to bump this thread, but does anyone know where I can get a stock RB25DET Neo head gasket from now? I checked out Lewis Engines but they don't seem to be selling them anymore, and Googling is just bringing up Cometic or other MLS type gaskets. While I'm asking, if I'm removing the head, would I be better of going for a gasket kit like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/R34-GTT-Skyline-RB25DET-Neo-Head-Gasket-Set-Gen-Nissan-/110803994200?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19cc6ec658#ht_1047wt_1037 Or just getting a head gasket and reusing the others? I imagine the exhaust manifold gasket will need replacing as well though.
  6. Not at the pump anyway. You can get it, but ~$3L puts me off a bit...
  7. WA Suspensions do my alignments, my car is very low.
  8. Yeh tell Adam to pull the french fry out already, we want the nugget started!
  9. These copies have been around for awhile. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/383538-plazmaman-knock-off-inlets/page__p__6123419__hl__plazmaman__fromsearch__1#entry6123419
  10. It advances the inlet cam 20 degrees.
  11. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/323615-how-good-is-nistune/
  12. Thanks mate, I'll check them out too. As for cams, yes I've thought about it. Still thinking about it, I am very very tempted. It's going to depend on how much the labour will cost me though I think, if it's not too expensive then I'll get some Tomei Type-B's as well. What would cause them to be incorrect? My head has never been off before. I'm fairly certain the current problem is being caused by a bit of debris getting stuck in a valve, as when I installed my Plazmaman plenum I made a mistake which caused the manifold to twist and break on the cylinder 1 collector. Haven't given him a call yet, I'm actually a bit sick at the moment and I hate talking on the phone when I have a blocked nose lol. I will definitely give him a call though, I'm quite keen to see what he thinks
  13. Ahh perfect, that's exactly what I was looking for, thanks Corey! I'll give them a call and see what they think.
  14. Hey all, I'm about to pull the head off my RB25 Neo in an attempt to fix a sticking valve problem, and I'm thinking I should just get it reconditioned and while I'm at it upgrade the valve springs and retainers, possibly the valve guides as well. Is there anywhere in Perth that has experience with RB's or that people would recommend for me to take it to to have all the above done? Removal and refitting of the head I can do myself. I've had a look in the consolidated workshop thread and seen Bert Vosbergen listed in there, anyone dealt with them before? What are they like price-wise? Any other recommendations? Cheers, Martin.
  15. They are pretty much a drop-in item, just need to rewire the standard connectors with the ones that come with the ID's.
  16. Yes, unless you've got the NIStune license and software to check it yourself.
  17. I think the exhaust is just masking the real problem, you shouldn't be having boost control issues just because you have a free-flowing exhaust. The surge issue is different though, have you checked where your TP cut has been set to?
  18. Doesn't help with track times though
  19. Yeh don't get me wrong, I wasn't implying that it isn't possible for the conversion to be done under 2k. I was simply advising that you don't EXPECT it to be done for under 2k. Expect it to be done for around 3.5 maybe 4k. Budget for that. It's much better to come in well under budget and have some money left over than it is to budget 2k and have things go wrong, because this is wear costs start spiraling and before you know it you've spent 6k and you're so frustrated you don't even want to look at the car anymore.
  20. What has surge got to do with fouled plugs? Fouled plugs will make it misfire, which is inherently different from surging. It was tuned for 14psi yes? To me it sounds like your tuner has set up the TP cut just above what it was tuned for, but I'm really just speculating given your description.
  21. You're going about it the wrong way. You've just compared selling/buying a car, to turbocharging a motor that was never designed to be turbocharged. I realize I might come across as a prick in saying that, but I honestly don't think you're understanding what's involved here. You don't want to do the brakes later. The stock GT brakes are absolutely rubbish, I didn't want them on the stock NA motor let alone a turbocharged motor. Do the brakes and suspension first, then think about turbocharging it. This also definitely isn't an easy conversion. I've read Gerg_31's build thread on here, he made building an RB26/30DE look ridiculously easy. It isn't. This conversion might be easy compared to other things, but it is by no means easy in reality. There's so many things that can go wrong. Don't pay attention to the ones that say it is cheap and easy to do, pay attention to the ones that are saying it isn't. You need to over budget not under budget, and trust me, it is so ridiculously easy to under budget. You've said you don't have a lot of money to be putting into the car, how much would you consider a lot of money? With that all said, it's refreshing to see someone doing the research before saying they want to do something, so I commend you for that. I suggest you do more reading than just this thread though. Also talk to people who understand what is involved, people who have done the conversion, workshops who have done this sort of work.
  22. First of all, this is not the attitude to have going in to these sorts of jobs. It's a lot of work, and you need to be prepared for costs to get out of hand. Take your budget and triple it. Take your time frame for when you want it back on the road and triple it. Secondly, your comment about most other 34 GTT's on the market being thrashed is also a bit naive. There's plenty of blokes like yourself who look after their cars. My advice? Buy a GTT. It is honestly a hell of a lot easier. I went down the path of converting my GT to a GTT by simply swapping engines/gearbox/diff etc. etc. I've suffered for it ever since. I don't know if I would say I regret it, but I will tell you that the headaches are endless.
