  1. Yes makes sense, should work like that. I think try to get hold of another bov, GTR one will be even better. How hard is it to push the valve open by hand, do you know? I've got a stock R34 bov sitting here that is quite hard to push open, it's fairly stiff.
  2. Hey Brad, Still no sign of my catch can yet, do you know when you actually sent it out? By my count it is a bit over three weeks ago now? Starting to worry it has been lost in transit.
  3. Or if you track the car...
  4. I've seen the stock bov being used on setups making well over 300rwkw. Where have you plumbed it into? Have you got another one you could try? I think yours is possibly a bit worn out, sounds like it doesn't have enough spring pressure to keep it shut.
  5. Yeh as said, replace it if you're going to have the box out anyway. It's a $60 or so part, so not like it's a massive problem. But mine has been making the whirring noise for a good 2 years now. It hasn't got any worse in that time, so I haven't bothered pulling it out. If it starts to get louder then I'll pull the box and replace it.
  6. That's not true, the new ECU was supposed to arrive today or tomorrow, but instead it arrived last Friday!! That's a win, right!? Right? Lol yeh, I'm very lucky my tuner doesn't want to charge me anything for the car being there for so long. It was only meant to be a quick retune, it's been there for a month now
  7. Yeh this is what I've got and tried in the past. I'll give it a go if the workshop can't find anything. Though I'm starting to think that for such a major leak to occur, it is most likely to be the new plenum not sealing, maybe I didn't get the plenum to sit flat on the runners properly Thanks guys, I'll see what I can do.
  8. Yes, most of them have been sorted now. Still have massive air leak somewhere though, car is revving itself to redline as soon as it's started
  9. Also keen to hear what the issue was with the R34 wing blades...
  10. Yeh I've tried a similar idea before when I had a vacuum leak, but found the whistling from the air compressor was way louder than the whisteling from any air leaks, so it didn't make it any easier to find. Still worth a go though.
  11. Hey all, My car is currently at my tuners with a rather annoying problem... The car was there to be tuned after I fitted a Plazmaman intake plenum and 72mm throttle body, as well as ID1000's, HKS fuel rail, -6 braided fuel lines, Sard FPR etc. So it's undergone some pretty major modifications. It also had some problems with the NIStune, so I bought a Link G4 plug in which has now been fitted and it is up and running and it seems that it only has the one problem left, in that it wants to rev itself to redline as soon as you start it. The boys have tried blocking off the IAC valve as well as the throttle body, but it is still doing it, so obviously there is a pretty major air leak somewhere. They are currently trying to find it by blocking off hoses etc, but I was hoping some brainstorming may be able to help. The issue is, it's very hard to find an air leak when you can't start the car... We would try the smoke or throttle cleaner tests, but when the car is smashing limiter within a few seconds of starting, there isn't much one can do. So I just wanted to find out what sort of air leak could cause the car to do this? I mean, surely it takes a substantial amount of air to make the car rev so hard, so it wouldn't be just a small hose or something? We reused the upper plenum gasket when we installed the plenum as it was in perfect condition, but would a leaky plenum gasket do this? What else could leak such a large amount of air? Thanks for any help, I understand it could really be anything and playing e-Mechanic probably isn't going to get much done, but I'm desperate at the moment... Cheers, Martin.
  12. That's devastating mate. Makes me nervous about ever getting my engine built Have you spoken to the engine builder again??
  13. Custom is way better in my opinion. For me it's the clearance. When you have an exhaust custom made for you, they can make it sit off the ground as much as possible. I don't have any problems with my exhaust scraping, and my car is very low. Sometimes the flange or the heatshield on the cat scrapes a little bit, but if I went with a custom dump/front pipe then I could sort that out as well.
  14. With the Phillips head screws, I found its a lot easier to use a pair of vice grips to crack them off, then use a screwdriver. Very easy.
  15. Yes, I ignored driving style because if someone wants to drive around on boost all the time, that doesn't mean their setup is getting bad economy. Obviously if you're in the power band then you're using the fuel. I always try to measure my cars efficiency based on several different driving styles. I've tried boosting around, I've tried putting around, I've tried city driving vs hwy driving, etc. etc. And then I rate it's efficiency based on all of those styles, not just one
  16. Fuel consumption has absolutely nothing to do with the turbo though. If you're getting bad fuel economy or good fuel economy, it's all in the tune. As for being a bit slower, that doesn't mean you're not making the power. I used to (when I had the stock turbo and the G2 turbo) be able to get to the top of third down this one road and just have time to get on the anchors and pull up before the corner. These days I'm only just onto full boost before I gotta pull up.
  17. Spotted a black 34 on Reid Hwy heading away from midland at about 12:50ish, nice and clean example with custom plates. Then spotted a yellow Stagea on Roe Hwy heading towards the Fwy, Rear windscreen was covered in stickers, one of them being an SAU one
  18. Well I'll let you know once it has been set up properly. To be honest I wasn't 100% happy with the setup how it was before, it was a bit laggy and you could question the power figure based on the dyno it was tuned on. But having said that, I don't think it is fair to judge the turbo when I've got known issues with the ECU. I've taken the time and spent the money to try to get my setup working 110% now, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing how it goes this time. Eventually *EDIT* Forgot about fuel economy. That was probably the one thing I was very happy with. I was getting 550-600kms to a tank driving around town. 500 if I did a lot of highway driving. Didn't make much difference whether I boosted around a lot or just putted around, but then when I'm over the speed limit in most places at the top of second, I don't spend a lot of time on boost. On the track I was getting about 200kms to a tank
  19. G3 high flow or ATR43 G3?? I can't keep up with all these high flows...
  20. An accurate observation Mind you, 34GeeTeeTee and I probably have the most accurate power figures on here at the moment Check sig
  21. [quote name=ClutchBurndout-' timestamp='1336829958' post='6353975] wont gasket paper just blow into the recirc piping? Nah mate, it's strong stuff.
  22. Can get some gasket paper and cut it to the shape of the flange, then make the hole in the middle smaller than the actual hole. I did it in the hopes that it would shut mine up a bit, but it did the opposite and made it louder.
  23. I would speak to someone that can tell you what is involved in maintaining it (RusH, for example). Matte finished aren't easy to look after, if you don't put a lot of work into it then you're going to end up with a very average looking car.
