  1. What about the auto-tune feature? Is that easy enough to work out or is it quite tricky? That's the only part of it that I would be playing with. While I'm looking into prices, are there other bits and pieces I would need to buy with the Adaptronic? I could get the Link board for $1500, but then still need the IAT sensor, etc. so would end up being roughly $1700. Is the Adaptronic the same? I know the Adaptronic has a 4 BAR internal map sensor, so don't need any extra. One thing I'm concerned about with the Adaptronic is it's wasted spark. I know what it is, but what does that actually mean to me in the real world though? I'll only need 3 coilpacks?? How exactly would my setup change because of wasted spark vs full sequential?
  2. Just coming back to this as my current issues may be forcing me down this path earlier than I had planned... How does the new Adaptronic plug in ECU for the 25DET Neo compare to the Link/Vipec? I hadn't considered it previously because nobody around me would tune it, but I've just found out my old tuner now does them and I could get it supplied/installed/tuned for $2200. So is there any reason I should go the Link/Vipec over the Adaptronic other than price? I don't want to cheap out on the ECU, but if the Adaptronic is just as capable and easy to tune then I should consider it. I noticed Trent's comments in the Budget ECU thread about the Adaptronic software being a bit 'clunky'? Is that a big deal that could effect the operating of my car again, or does it just make it a little harder to learn to tune? What about feature vs $$ etc. etc. Right now the Adaptronic is looking like a pretty good option unless anyone can tell me otherwise? *EDIT* Especially since Stao just quoted me $1140 delivered for the Adaptronic. I know I should buy from my tuner so he is more 'kindly disposed' towards me, but for that price...
  3. God damn. Suddenly nanny state WA with our lack of E85 doesn't seem so bad anymore...
  4. Depends on if it is the globe or the ballast that has failed. If it's just the globe then just replace the globe.
  5. Ahh sucks mate, that's always one thing I thought must be nerve wracking as a GTR owner. Did they at least do a good job of it, didn't damage the paint or anything? Unfortunately I think if you are set on replacing it and going genuine then you're going to have to fork out for it
  6. Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. If you've got a serious vacuum leak then it will stall at idle unless you run it in limp mode, ie. unplug afm.
  7. Do you have access to a known working Z32 that you could try? Does it not start at all with it plugged in or does it start and then die very soon after??
  8. There is a law against it. A law that has very severe consequences... I believe it is called natural selection.
  9. Check that you haven't reversed the polarity on the fuel pump. It will still prime, but it will be spinning in reverse.
  10. Well the most likely reason for it is the TCS, or lack of it. As I transplanted this engine into a GT shell, at the time I decided to scrap the traction control as it was going to be a bitch to wire up and I had no use for it. Had been planning on going forward facing anyway, so I would have just had to delete it again anyway. I wasn't aware at the time that it would cause so much trouble with DTC's. Even with the feedback switched off, the ECU would still pull timing. So after talking with Matt and Pete, I sent the ECU to Matt and he bench tested it and reprogrammed it with a SII Stagea image to get rid of the DTC's. Since then I haven't had it back on the dyno so I never 100% confirmed that this had been the issue, but it didn't once misfire since being reprogrammed, so I think that did sort it out. Then I decided that if I needed to get it back on the dyno anyway, I may as well upgrade to ID1000's and put on the Plazmaman plenum beforehand. And that brings us to now, with an ECU that no longer works
  11. And you continued using it forever just because, this is the sooooooooong that never ends! Yes it goes on and on my frieeeeeends. Could not resist, and now I have it stuck in my head
  12. Lol. This guy.
  13. Idle problem??? Never had any serious idle problems... I had to replace the brake booster check valve as I accidentally busted the stock one trying to relocate it into a new hose. But if it helps, I got it from CBA
  14. Possibly time for another update... Problems. Huge problems. I've got no idea how/why/what happened, but somehow my ECU is corrupt. Sean couldn't get it started on Saturday as the maps are scrambled all over the place. He even tried starting again from scratch, but apparently nothing made any difference, ECU is just completely messed up. As he is now away on leave, he organized with my old tuner just down the road to get it finished, and I just got off the phone with him. He has got a new ROM for the ECU, so tomorrow he is going to try installing the new ROM to see if that works, but if not then it's the ECU. In which case, I may be digging into my Europe-trip funds to pay for a Vipec V44 plug in Don't see the point of replacing the stock ECU again when I plan on switching to a Vipec sometime down the track anyway. Guess it is now just a waiting game to determine whether this tune is a $500 exercise as expected, or a $4000 exercise
  15. I sort of assumed that the car was written off in an unrelated accident. So OP scratched paint and then his old boss somehow wrote off his car in a different incident. Correct me if I'm wrong OP?
  16. Yeh, mine is completely random though, doesn't do it every time. I thought it had 'fixed' itself when it didn't happen for a few months, then out of nowhere it does it again. Same story on the dyno when it was tuned, it made it very difficult for my tuner to work with.
  17. Because mine won't hold the timing. The stock ECU keeps freaking out, pulling timing on random occasions. I have a very random misfire at ~5000rpm which is when the ECU decides to pull timing. The ViPEC wouldn't do it. Now I've got this whole corrupt ECU thing... I dunno. Too many problems. I haven't managed a single tune yet, in the 2 years my car has been turbocharged, that I haven't had an ECU related problem.
  18. In my tuners case, he is happy to have a go at tuning whatever I bring him, he just makes it clear that I may not get the results I'm expecting compared to if I went with an ECU he was experienced with. Personally I just don't see the point in giving my tuner an ECU that he hasn't tuned before when it's the tune that is going to make the difference. At the moment I'm saving to switch to a ViPEC/Link as I feel the NIStune just isn't happy in my car, I've had way too many problems with the stock ECU so far. My tuner thinks he can get me more power and a better curve with a ViPEC, so I'll be happy to give it a go when I can afford it.
  19. Nahh not yet My tuner is off until the 21st now, so he has organized to get it in with my old tuner just down the road, so it will be going there on Thursday to see if they can figure it out
  20. What ECU did you end up going with man, the Haltech?
  21. My ID's came with the connectors and pins, most places I have seen sell them like that. Just double check with where you bought them from, but I'd say they will most likely come with.
  22. This. You need the same size tyres all round mate.
